Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reveals fresh fears over future of midfielder Owen Hargreaves



Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted a growing concern at Owen Hargreaves' continued absence through injury.

The Manchester United boss confirmed Hargreaves has returned to Munich for further treatment on the hamstring injury he suffered against Wolves in November that has consigned him to another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Hargreaves was making his first start for over two years following operations on both knees to cure a serious tendinitis problem and Ferguson has previously admitted he has no idea when the 29-year-old will return.

As his contract is due to expire at the end of the season, Hargreaves' United future is uncertain at best.

And Ferguson admitted to worries about whether Hargreaves can even return to the field in any capacity, let alone the level that saw him selected as England's best player at the 2006 World Cup.

'We are all concerned,' said the United manager. 'He has not played for over two years so we would have to be super-optimistic to think everything in the garden was rosy about him making comebacks.

'What we are trying to do is help the lad. That in itself is our biggest challenge. We want to help the lad try to get back to a level where he can still play football.'

Ferguson insists Hargreaves was ready to make his comeback when he was thrown into the fray earlier this season, even though he had no warm-up games as build-up.

The midfielder signalled there was a problem within a couple of minutes of kick-off, and though he did try to battle through the pain, he found it was impossible.

'This hamstring injury is a real kick in the teeth,' said Ferguson. 'He was doing so well in training before the Wolves game. He was absolutely superb.

'There were no qualms whatsoever about putting him in, even though he had only trained for nine days.

'We were confident enough to play him but unfortunately it has proved to be a disappointment for us.

'If he had realised early enough and come off before he had done any more damage, it could have been three to four weeks. But is a complete tear.'

Hargreaves has not offered his own feelings on the matter, although Ferguson acted with incredulity when asked how the former Bayern Munich star would be affected.

There must be a possibility that the player will ultimately decide to quit the game. Gor now though, Ferguson is adopting a different stance.

'He has to fight it,' he said. 'There is no other way.'

Lagipula , cedera lutut yg dipunyai Hargo adl yg terparah , menurut Dr Steadman . Let we see , dlm jangka waktu 6 bulan ke depan . Kalau Hargo blm bisa kembali ke lapangan hijau , release contract adl jalan keluar yg terbaik . Walau aq pribadi ingin Hargo memperpanjang kontrak d United dgn format "Pay-As-You-Play Contract" ala Michael Owen .

Diesler pensiun dini , coz dia mempunyai masalah psikologis , bukan gara2 faktor cedera . Kalau De la Red , emang pensiun dini gara2 masalah jantung .

Benar bro Red_devilz, selama dia fit Hargo selalu bermain bagus dan berkontribusi buat United, dan yang jelas cedera nya akibat bermain bola dan bukan karena jatuh dari pohon mangga .......

Yup.. Deisler pensiun karena frustasi, dan cedera penyebabnya. Beda dengan hargo yang punya tekad yang sangat besar. Klo di FM mungkin determinasi, dan aku yakin hargo salah satu yang terbaik di United dalam hal ini. Hargo masih punya kontrak 6 bulan,jadi masih cukup waktu.

Owen Hargreaves dibebat cedera lagi setelah melakoni comeback pertamanya dalam dua tahun. Apakah dia bisa kembali fit dan bermain seperti sedia kala? Sir Alex Ferguson mengisyaratkan keraguan.

Hargreaves sempat menjadi kejutan karena dimasukkan dalam starting line-up MU kala menghadapi Wolverhampton, awal November silam. Malang, gelandang internasional Inggris itu terpaksa ditarik keluar lapangan usai tampil selama enam menit.

Seperti yang dikhawatirkan, lututnya kembali bermasalah. Akibatnya, Hargreaves harus melupakan mimpinya untuk beraksi di atas lapangan karena harus menepi lagi selama lima pekan.

"Kami semua prihatin. Dia tak pernah bermain dalam dua tahun lebih," ujar Ferguson dalam sebuah konferensi pers yang dikutip dari Reuters.

"Anda harus super optimis untuk berpikir semuanya akan menjadi indah buat dia terkait untuk melakukan comeback. Apa yang kami sedang usahakan adalah membantu si pemain, dan itu adalah tantangan yang terbesar. Mencoba dan menolong untuk kembali ke level di mana dia masih bisa bermain sepakbola," ucapnya.

MU mengeluarkan 18 juta poundsterling untuk memboyong Hargreaves dari Bayern Munich. Selama terdaftar jadi pemain The Red Devils, ia baru 39 kali tampil.

Kontrak Hargreaves sendiri akan habis tak kurang dari setengah tahun lagi. Baru-baru ini terdengar kabar bahwa klub akan siap melepas Hargreaves di akhir musim ini.

Ha... om andi pandai becanda. bukannya meremehkan tapi dengan rumput seempuk OT aja bisa cedera gimana di Indonesia.

It has emerged that Owen Hargreaves will not be offered a new contract at Manchester United, meaning the player will be allowed to leave the club as a free agent when his current deal expires next summer.

The Daily Mirror has suggested that Alex Ferguson is keen to trim his squad numbers, particularly in midfield, and releasing Hargreaves would lighten the load considerably, with the ex-England midfielder reported to be on £90,000 per week.

Since signing from Bayern Munich in 2007 for a reported fee of £17m, Hargreaves has made only 39 appearances for United, owing, of course, to his long-standing problems with tendinitis.

There seem to be no guarantees that Hargreaves will ever fully recover from a series of serious injury setbacks, and it appears that Ferguson has finally come to a decision over his midfielder, who never really had the opportunity to justify his hefty price tag.
