Preview: Aston Villa v United


Scene-setter:*Manchester United's sixth consecutive victory - 3-0 at home to arch-rivals Liverpool - provides the ideal springboard for this weekend's trip to Villa Park. Louis van Gaal's men are in third position in the Barclays Premier League, causing Chelsea and Manchester City to at least glance over their shoulders as the campaign enters its busy Christmas period.

Form guide:*The thoroughly pleasing victory over Brendan Rodgers' Merseysiders confirms United as having the best form in the league at present, with the six successive wins unrivalled. While the Reds are considered to have not reached maximum performance levels in such a run, van Gaal's side have demonstrated a ruthless streak when securing the recent victories. Villa's winless period in the league had stretched for over two months until 2 December when they won away at Crystal Palace but although they followed that success by defeating Leicester City at home, they lost again last weekend, 1-0 away to West Brom in the West Midlands derby.

Team news:*Villa skipper Ron Vlaar returned to the squad for the West Brom game, but had to watch from the bench until the 78th minute due to Ciaran Clark and Jores Okore forging a partnership in the Dutchman's absence. Kieran Richardson and Alan Hutton are serving suspensions, while United loanee Tom Cleverley is ineligible. United's team news will be delivered by manager Louis van Gaal in his lunch-time press conference on Friday - last time around, he identified just four players as being injured and unavailable to face Liverpool, namely Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling.

Last league meeting:*Despite falling behind at Old Trafford in March, the Reds fought back valiantly as Wayne Rooney's double, Juan Mata's first United goal and a late Javier Hernandez strike sealed a 4-1 win for the hosts.

Did you know? United have won the last seven home and away games against Aston Villa - the three most recent victories were by all achieved with a three-goal margin.

Rivals watch: The Reds will discover by kick-off if the five-point gap to second-placed Manchester City can be closed, with the Blues commencing their home clash with Crystal Palace at 12:45 GMT. A victory for van Gaal's side against Villa could give table-topping Chelsea something to think about - Jose Mourinho's men must wait until Monday to travel to combative Stoke City.

Match officials: Lee Mason will referee the match, with Stuart Burt and Andy Halliday serving as his assistants. Kevin Friend will be the fourth official.

Tidak ada Fellaini, Blind Rojo sih cedera. Siapa ntar yang jadi DM klo United maen 3-5-2? Carrick bisa jadi dipasang sebagai CB. Ataukah salah satu CB muda main bareng Evans Jones dan Carrick naik jadi CB?

sepertinya memakai 352, LvG sangat percaya dengan kemampuan carrick dan merasa lebih aman kalau carrick jadi CB dan menduetkan jones-evans lagi seperti lawan liverpool

Yup ..., tanpa Fellaini dan Blind, rasanya riskan jika memaksakan Carrick untuk mundur menempati posisi CB

Apalagi menjelang jadwal yg padat, harus siap2 rotasi pemain pulak nih Meneer van Gaal, semoga nggak terlalu memaksakan 3 5 2 deh, McNair bisa kembali starter nih, di dampingi Evans atau Jones

Di depan Falcao moga mulai dari awal laga n bisa bikin banyak gol ...

Louis van Gaal's side travel to Aston Villa in one of six 3pm kick-offs in the BPL on Saturday


Manchester United will be looking to stretch their Barclays Premier League winning run to seven matches against a depleted Aston Villa on Saturday.

Louis van Gaal's men have found their stride in recent weeks, picking up a 3-0 victory over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford last time out. The sequence has seen United haul themselves back into the title race and the 13-time BPL champions sit eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea in third.

United will take huge confidence from their recent record against Villa, having fired 18 goals past them in the past three seasons, conceding only three in reply. Indeed, Villa have not beaten United in the league since 1995 and a series of injuries are set to make life difficult once again this time around.

Nathan Baker (knee), Joe Cole (hamstring), Libor Kozak (broken leg), Philippe Senderos (calf) and Ashley Westwood (knee) all contribute to a selection headache for manager Paul Lambert. Kieran Richardson and Alan Hutton are both suspended, while on-loan Tom Cleverley, who would have served a one-match ban anyway, is ineligible to face his parent club.

Lambert was boosted by the return to fitness of Fabian Delph for last weekend's 1-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion, while Ron Vlaar is in contention for a start, and the Scot is confident he has the players to cope with his current crisis.

"There's a few out," he said. "But I am not going to sit here and be negative about it. I have total belief that we will go out there and try to win a game of football."

United have not been without injury problems of their own this term and look set to be without defenders Chris Smalling (groin) and Luke Shaw (ankle) on Saturday.
