Manchester United's next Premier League opponents Tottenham confirm positive coronavirus test
Premier League clubs have been testing players and staff twice a week following their return to training. Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they have been informed by the Premier League that they have received one positive test for coronavirus following the latest round of testing. The Premier League confirmed one Wednesday afternoon that one new individual had tested positive for coronavirus in the fifth round of testing. Clubs in the top flight test players and staff twice a week as they build up to the restart of the season on June 17. And following tests on 1197 people on Monday and Tuesday of this week, Spurs have confirmed that the positive test is from their club, but they will not be disclosing who it is who has tested positive. “We have been informed by the Premier League that we have received one positive test for COVID-19 following the latest round of testing at our Training Centre,” a statement from Spurs read. “Due to medical confidentiality, the individual’s name will not be disclosed. “They are currently asymptomatic and will now self-isolate for seven days, in line with Premier League protocol, before undergoing further testing. “We shall continue to strictly adhere to the Premier League’s Return to Training protocol, which ensures our Training Centre remains a safe and virus-free working environment.” A statement from the Premier League said: “The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 1 June and Tuesday 2 June, 1197 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, one has tested positive,” a statement from the Premier League read. “The individual who tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days. “The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing.” Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City vs Arsenal will kick-off the resumption of the top-flight on June 17, as all four sides look to play the game in hand they have on the other 16 teams in the division. United will kick-off their campaign a few days later away at Tottenham as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side look to maintain their bid for a top-four finish.

Re: [EPL] Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United
Paul Pogba 'set to be benched' for Manchester United's Premier League return against Tottenham as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer puts partnership with Bruno Fernandes on hold
* Paul Pogba is fully fit again but has not played for Man United since Boxing Day * Despite training well in lockdown, Pogba is reportedly set to start on the bench * United travel to play top-four rivals Tottenham in their first league game back * United fans will seemingly have to wait to see Pogba play with Bruno Fernandes Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly set to start Paul Pogba on the bench against Tottenham on Friday, meaning his potential partnership with Bruno Fernandes in midfield will have to wait. Pogba has not played since Boxing Day and has featured just twice since September due to a number of ankle issues, but the French World Cup winner is now fully fit after the coronavirus lockdown put football on hold for three months. And after Fernandes hit the ground running following his £68m move from Sporting Lisbon in January, many United fans are excited to see their two star midfielders pair up - but that won't be the partnership from the beginning on Friday, according to The Athletic. Paul Pogba is set to start on the substitutes' bench for United's first game back on Friday. United midfielder Bruno Fernandes hit the ground running after his January move. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will resist starting the pair together against Tottenham this week Pogba is understood to have 'trained well since lockdown began' but nonetheless, United are said to be working on a starting XI without the 27-year-old. Instead, Solskjaer could turn to a regular this season in Fred, as well as Scott McTominay or Nemanja Matic in the centre of the park to feature alongside playmaker Fernandes. When questioned about whether Pogba and Fernandes are capable of teaming up, former United midfielder Darren Fletcher said: 'Without doubt, of course. Great players can come together. Fernandes and Pogba have been working together in training in recent weeks. With Pogba set to start on the bench, Solskjaer is likely to start Brazilian Fred (L) in midfield 'Somebody might have to sacrifice a little bit of something - that's part of being in a team, it's not an individual sport. When you play with a certain midfield, whether it's a midfield three, you adapt your game to complement each other. 'It's all about being compatible and recognising the strengths of your fellow team-mates and how to get your best performance, but, ultimately, you might be sacrificing what you do best to allow someone else to excel, which helps the team win.' Fernandes has already endeared himself to the Old Trafford faithful after joining from Portugal in the winter transfer window. The 25-year-old has scored three goals and registered three assists across nine appearances, and won the Premier League Player of the Month award for February. United return with a crucial match against top-four rivals Tottenham and former manager Jose Mourinho on Friday night. Solskjaer's side are currently fifth in the Premier League table, three points behind Chelsea in fourth. However, Tottenham can go within a point of United with a win, and themselves have key players Harry Kane and Son Heung-min fully fit again. Code:
