Default Re: Sergio Romero

David de Gea's injury means Sergio Romero is tasked with keeping out Liverpool and the Argentina keeper's quality and experience means there is no-one better equipped… and he has NEVER conceded a Premier League goal at Old Trafford

* There's evidence that Man United are a better team with Sergio Romero in goal
* The Argentine is set to play against Liverpool after David de Gea picked up injury
* He has tons of experience and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can count on him to step up

There will be one man certain that an injury to David de Gea would not weaken Manchester United – the goalkeeper poised to replace him, Sergio Romero.

After all the self-assured Argentine has played 96 times for his country including the 2014 World Cup final and lost just six of the 46 games he has played for United.

There is statistical evidence United's results are actually better with the 32-year-old in goal instead of De Gea and his 28 clean sheets for the club include the 2017 Europa League final win against Ajax.

'No dilemma,' said Mourinho when asked to explain why he'd kept faith with Romero for United's biggest match of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Romero has kept six clean sheets in his seven Premier League games for United and never conceded a league goal at Old Trafford (three games).

Having said that, he is undercooked at the highest level; the 1-0 win against Watford in May 2018 is his only Premier League appearance in the last two years.

Of course United, having given de Gea a bumper new contract earlier this season, will want the Spaniard to recover quickly from the muscle injury that forced him out of Spain's Euro 2020 qualifier with Sweden on Tuesday.

David de Gea could be out of Liverpool clash after picking up an injury playing for Spain. Sergio Romero, who's made just one Premier League appearance in two years, is poised to play

But if he is ruled out of Sunday's blockbuster against Liverpool and beyond, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can count on probably the most prestigious understudy goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Romero did worry that playing second fiddle to De Gea would affect his international prospects – and indeed he has hardly had a look-in for Argentina since missing the 2018 World Cup through injury and not won a cap in the last 12 months – but he's never let those frustrations show within the United camp.

Indeed, Mourinho praised his attitude as a No 2 and Romero's relationship with de Gea.

'I never saw in all my career two goalkeepers to be so friendly, because it is a position where you always have a little bit of rivalry, especially if you are both the same kind of level. They are two fantastic goalkeepers.

Romero has kept 28 clean sheets for United and is yet to concede a league goal at Old Trafford

'They are friends and they support each other all the time. I never saw a bad face, I always saw them supporting each other.'

He also fits the stereotype of a passionate Argentine. In his early days at AZ Alkmaar, where he won the Dutch league, he broke his hand punching a dressing-room door in anger.

'Not smart,' said his manager Louis van Gaal understatedly.

When Celta Vigo fluffed a late chance to knock United out of the Europa League a couple of years ago, Romero said poetically: 'My soul returned to my body.'

His reputation as a big-time player was enhanced at his second World Cup finals in Brazil when he led Argentina to a semi-final shoot-out win against Holland and did well in the final against Germany, which his side lost 1-0 in extra-time.

Romero joined United in 2015 from Sampdoria and in many ways he's had the most unenviable job in football since then, the stand-in goalie as de Gea's form excelled, at least until the 2018 World Cup.

It's noticeable that under Solskjaer his appearances have been fewer and further apart than for either Louis van Gaal or Mourinho, playing just twice this season including the League Cup tie against Rochdale when he became the hero of a penalty shoot-out.

This could be his chance to show he's still the Romero that has played behind Messi, Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for club and country.

The first thing you notice about Romero between the sticks is that he looks commanding, a more imposing physical presence than the lean and agile de Gea.

He seems to instil confidence in his back-line – important for United who currently sit in the bottom half of the Premier League – and of course he makes great saves, both reflex stops and bravery in one-against-ones.

Had de Gea left last summer, some inside Old Trafford felt Romero capable of stepping up to be No 1. Counting against him in the long-term however are issues of fitness and dependability.

He missed the last World Cup with a knee injury – the Argentine FA reported a 'joints blockage in his right knee' and when there were issues over de Gea's form at the end of last season, Solskjaer couldn't pick Romero because he'd tweaked his knee again in training.

Long-term, injury issues may prevent Romero from becoming a full-time No 1 for a club the size of United. But short-term, if de Gea has to miss a few weeks, it's hard to think of anyone better to fill the void.

'I am at the best club in the world': Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero admits 'it's not easy' playing second fiddle to David de Gea but is ready to take chance when it comes

* Man United back-up goalkeeper Sergio Romero has played five times this season
* The Argentinian has been the understudy to David de Gea for the past four years
* He admits it has been tough, though he is likely to start on Thursday against AZ

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has acknowledged that being a back-up is 'not easy' but is ready to come in to play at the 'best club in the world.'

The Argentinian has been the understudy to No 1 keeper David de Gea since arriving at the club four years ago, and his five appearances so far this season have come in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

Romero, who played throughout United's run to winning the Europa League in 2017, is likely to feature from the start in Thursday's clash with AZ Alkmaar and has admitted he has found it difficult sitting on the bench.

Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero is likely to start against AZ on Thursday evening

'It's not easy. But I work every day for this chance to play and then I am ready when it comes,' Romero said on Wednesday.

'In the last four years, I was in a difficult situation. I work every day for the chance and if I have my chance I try to do my best.

'I work hard and I am at the best club in the world. I said I wanted to play for United one day when I was younger and now I worked to get my chance.

'It was never the intention to be second choice.'

Sergio Romero Kecelakaan, Lamborghini-nya Ringsek

Novitasari Dewi Salusi - detikSport

Manchester - Kiper Manchester United, Sergio Romero, mengalami kecelakaan lalu lintas.

MU membenarkan kalau Romero mengalami kecelakaan.

Shocked Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero stands by the wreckage of his Lamborghini after crashing the £170,000 car near the club's Carrington training base

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has escaped unharmed after crashing his car in Carrington on Monday.

United's No 2 goalkeeper was pictured standing beside his smashed up Lamborghini, worth £170,000, on the A6144. The crash happened on the Carrington Spur Road through Ashton, near to the Reds’ training ground.

Footage also emerged across social media of Romero's car in ruins on the side of the road but with the United man stood safely to one side of the wreckage.

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has escaped unharmed after crashing his car. United's No 2 stopper crashed his Lamborghini into a traffic barrier near the training ground. Pictures of his badly smashed up Lamborghini emerged across social media on Monday

Romero bought his Lamborghini in 2017, shortly after United had won the League Cup

The Lamborghini can be seen underneath a roadside barrier with footage taken from passers by also showing debris strewn across the road.

According to Sky Sports, Romero still took part in Manchester United training on Monday.

It had been a cold and icy night across Manchester with temperatures hovering above freezing, with drivers needing to have been particularly careful on the roads.

Romero, an Argentina international, is believed to have bought the car back in 2017 shortly after United defeated Southampton to win the League Cup at Wembley.

The 32-year-old has been a United player since 2015 and has played nine times for the club in all competitions so far this season. In total, he has played 53 times for United and kept an impressive tally of 34 clean sheets.

Romero's current contract at Manchester United runs through until 2021 and has an option to be extended for another year.

He is believed to earn around £70,000-a-week on that deal and is widely considered to be one of the best back-up goalkeepers in England.

Police soon attended the scene on the road that is close to United's training base

Romero came off unscathed and reportedly took part in United's Monday training session

When he put pen-to-paper on his current contract in 2017, it was amid intense speculation over the future of first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea, but the Spaniard penned a new contract himself back in September.

Romero was an unused substitute in United's 2-0 defeat by fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield in the Premier League.

United return to action on Wednesday night when they host Burnley at Old Trafford. They are currently fifth in the Premier League standings.

Aksi Sergio Romero yang Bikin Rooney Gigit Jari
Bayu Baskoro - detikSport

"Jelas, Man United...tim yang bagus.

Sergio Romero reveals he has tested negative for the coronavirus after the Manchester United goalkeeper undertook two-week self isolation stint in Buenos Aires hotel

* Sergio Romero has revealed he has tested negative for the coronavirus
* The Manchester United goalkeeper detailed his 14-hour trip home to Argentina
* After the journey, he self-isolated in a hotel for two weeks to quarantine
* He was then tested and the test returned a negative result and he went home

Sergio Romero has revealed that he was tested for coronavirus as the Manchester United goalkeeper undertook two weeks in quarantine in Argentina.

The 33-year-old was concerned he may have contracted the disease on his 14-hour flight home. Argentina has seen 185 people die from the deadly virus and is currently observing strict lockdown measures.

Romero self-isolated for two weeks in a hotel in Buenos Aires before taking the test. He had to wait three days before returning home to his family after the test returned a negative result.

'I came back to Argentina on March 22,' the back-up goalkeeper told Manchester United's official app. 'I did my travelling, which was really, really hard, because I went in a car from Manchester to London.

'After that I took a plane from London to Paris. Not many people were in the airport, but all the people were keeping a safe distance from each other.

'All of the people were looking nervous or badly to the other people, because sometimes someone does this [sneezes]. Maybe they didn't have anything, but the people looked a bit strange [at them] and took their distance.

'In the plane, I flew Paris to Buenos Aires, 14 hours. I just sit my body in the plane and I don't move for 14 hours. I don't eat, I don't go to the toilet, because you never know how is the people.

'I stayed in a hotel for two weeks after they did the test in my nose and my mouth and I waited three more days in the hotel and, after the result is negative, I came to my house with my family.'

Romero urged supporters to obey the strict lockdown rules and abide by the social distancing measures in order to limit the spread of the disease, which has claimed the lives of over 20,000 people in the UK.

'The most important thing is to stay at home, stay safe, do the little things for the family, like just going to the supermarket, to the pharmacy. Don't move from the house. This is the most important thing,' he added.

Default Re: Sergio Romero

UNITED KEEPERS STICKING TOGETHER

Sergio Romero has revealed all of the club’s goalkeepers are on their own separate group chat, including the loanees, and he is maintaining a positive attitude during lockdown while back in his native Argentina.

The Manchester United man is keeping in regular contact with his fellow keepers and coming up with new ways to work in his garden, as the players wait for a green light to return to the Aon Training Complex.

He told us the WhatsApp group features Dean Henderson, even though he is currently on loan with Sheffield United, who had been enjoying a fine season in the Premier League and were competing with the Reds for a European slot.

“We have a group which features all of us players at United,” he said. “People are always writing and sending messages, asking how everyone is.

“This is all between ourselves, the players. Then, in addition, we have a group for the goalkeeping department at the club, which features every single goalkeeper, including Joel Pereira and also Deano. We’re all part of that group and we chat to one another and send messages. I also have one with David [De Gea]. He writes to me or I write to him to see how we’re both doing, because if this is soon over, we have to be in good shape for when we’re back at the club.”

Romero is channeling his younger self when practising in his garden, providing some valuable advice for any children who are doing likewise during these difficult times.

“I always keep in a positive frame of mind,” he said. “I always believe that everything we do with a football is going to be something positive and is going to be important. Many of us like to practise our skills and tricks, setting different challenges with the ball. But many others know that simply by hitting a ball against a wall with your right foot, followed by your left foot, you are going to keep improving.

“As it goes, in my garden at home, I have this sun-lounger which we use for lying in the sun, and I’ve put it at the back of the garden and, from an angle, I try to keep hitting the same spot when I knock it against the sun-bed. I reckon that everything you can possibly do, and all the imagination that a kid can possibly have, is always useful, to feed that spirit for the game and that special feeling that all of us who play football carry within us.

“So, the best advice is never give up, always think positively and one day soon we’ll be enjoying that same freedom we had two or three months ago, and we’ll be able to show either out there on a football pitch or in a big park, in front of the people who are going to be watching us, just what we can do with a football.”

In some respects, the Argentina international feels he is able to adapt to the current situation because of the mindset he has developed as the club’s second-choice between the sticks.

“For me, I find that side of things quite easy,” he explained. “Because I’ve always trained hard, thinking of playing at the weekend and, on many occasions, I’ve found myself watching it from the subs’ bench.

“So your mindset is always the same: keep positive, work hard and be aware that my team-mates are doing just the same back in England as I am here in Argentina.

“So that keeps me motivated, the fact that, in a short while, we’ll be going back to work and getting back to proper training and to showing our supporters that, during this time away, we’ve kept ourselves sharp and worked hard to ensure they can enjoy our performances on the field.”

Kiper MU Bangun Taman Bermain Kelewat Besar, Tetangganya Ngomel
Yanu Arifin - detikSport

Cheshire - Kiper Manchester United, Sergio Romero, diprotes tetangganya.

Dilansir The Sun, tetangga meminta agar taman hiburan itu dirobohkan.
