'I feel blessed to be back healthy': Marcus Rashford opens up after fearing his season would be curtailed by back injury as he admits it was 'worse' than previous knocks... before raving about Manchester United team-mate Mason Greenwood

* Marcus Rashford feared his season was over after picking up a back injury
* Rashford said that the back problem was 'worse' than previous knocks he's had
* The striker also raved about Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood
* Manchester United beat Bournemouth 5-2 in the Premier League on Saturday

Marcus Rashford is making the most of a new lease of life after fearing his season would be cut short by injury.

The Manchester United and England striker was sidelined in January when a persistent back problem was diagnosed as a double fracture.

But the football shutdown allowed Rashford to recover in time for restart and he scored his 20th goal of the season from the penalty spot in United's 5-2 win over Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford is making the most of this season after he feared it had ended from injury. He was sidelined when a persistent back problem was diagnosed as a double fracture

'I want to say how blessed I feel to be back healthy,' said Rashford who put his free time to good use by campaigning successfully for under-privileged schoolchildren to be fed during lockdown.

'I've had this injury before in the past but this time it was quite a bit worse than the ones I've had before. It was definitely difficult news to hear.

'It's a nice feeling to back scoring goals, but you know for forwards you just take it one game at a time. Whether you score or you don't score, the next game is always about scoring. That's what I'll continue to do, like I've done for the whole season really.'

Rashford's achievement was overshadowed by Mason Greenwood who scored two excellent goals against Bournemouth. He paid tribute to the teenager who now has 15 goals for the season.

'He's a fantastic player,' added Rashford. 'I've watched him before he got to the first-team. It was never a matter of if was going to play with us, it was just when. When can we get him involved? Ole has done a terrific job with him.

'First of all, he put him in the squad and brought him on against PSG (in the Champions League last season). That for a player, as a first step, it's huge and it shows that the manager had confidence in him. You've got no reason not to have confidence in a player like Mason.

'I just tell him to keep doing what he's doing because what he does is score goals, so he doesn't need to do anything else. You know, forget everything whatever people are doing outside, whether it's praise or negativity.

'He's done very well for the whole season. He's been working hard for the team and doing the dirty work, you know the unseen work. He does it so he deserves all the credit that he gets.'

United’s victory saw them score five goals in a Premier League match at Old Trafford for the first time since 2011.

Martial also reached 20 for the season with a stunning finish, meaning that United's front three have scored 55 goals between them – more than the Liverpool attack of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Rashford hailed Mason Greenwood as a 'fantastic player' after his brace against Bournemouth. United scored five goals in a Premier League match at Old Trafford for the first time since 2011

'It's definitely exciting,' added Rashford. 'I enjoy playing with those two players. All three of us scored against Bournemouth and that's the type of momentum we want to keep going.

'There's a massive flood of positivity right now and momentum. For us, we want to keep that going.

'It's easy for me to see progress because I train with the lads every day. I see us getting better day in, day out. For the fans, sometimes the only time they get to see it is on matchday.

'Some matchdays they don't go your way. It can look like there's no progression, but 100 per cent this team has been progressing since the start of the season.

'The manager has helped us a lot. He's stuck with us in difficult times and we've listened and tried to take on board what he's saying and what he wants us to deliver on the pitch.

'Where we are now, it's getting closer to what we picture, but there's still a lot more work to do to be back challenging for the Premier League.'

berkah lockdwon, PL dihentikan sementara, Rashford bisa sembuh dari cedera. begitu PL kembali digelar, Rashford masih tetap nyetel mainnya, terlebih sejak adanya Bruno, membentuk trio baru bersama Martial & Greenwood

RASHFORD READY TO MAKE HISTORY AGAIN

Marcus Rashford is to become the youngest ever recipient of an honorary degree from The University of Manchester, in recognition of his achievements as a footballer and as a passionate campaigner against child poverty.

The 22-year-old will follow in the footsteps of Manchester United legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton by receiving an honorary doctorate, the highest honour the university can bestow.

In a statement announcing the award, Rashford said: “It’s a proud day for myself and my family. When you look at the great names that have been awarded this doctorate in the past, it’s humbling.

“We still have a long way to go in the fight to combat child poverty in this country but receiving recognition from your city means we are heading in the right direction and that means a lot. Thank you to The University of Manchester.”

Rashford's dedication to the cause has taken him from the back pages of the newspapers to the front pages in recent weeks. An open letter to Members of Parliament about his personal experiences of using foodbanks influenced a change in government policy, enabling children who have free school meals in term-time to continue receiving them during the summer.

In addition, Marcus's collaboration with poverty and food waste charity, FareShare, led to £20million being raised in financial and food donations and 3.9 million meals being distributed to vulnerable people every week during the COVID-19 crisis.

The University of Manchester's president and vice-chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, said: “Marcus is an extraordinary young man with an extraordinary talent and drive that stretches well beyond the football field.

“His work for charity and his high-profile campaign will not only help countless young people across our own city, but across the entire country.

“Our university has social responsibility at its core and this sense of civic pride and duty is something we are proud to share with Marcus. That is why the university is delighted to make Marcus our youngest ever recipient of an honorary degree.”

A spokesperson for United said: “Marcus is an exceptional player and an exceptional person. His work with FareShare and his focus on child poverty make him richly deserving of this tremendous honour and everyone at Manchester United is incredibly proud of him.”

Congratulations, Marcus!

'We just weren't good enough': Marcus Rashford admits 'there's nowhere to hide' for Manchester United after their FA Cup semi-final defeat by Chelsea as he turns focus to 'two huge games' in top-four race

* Manchester United lost 3-1 to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday night
* Marcus Rashford slammed United's dismal and abject performance at Wembley
* The United No 10 said there is nowhere to hide after that display
* United need to win their last two Premier League games to guarantee top four

Marcus Rashford admitted Manchester United were not good enough during their dismal FA Cup semi-final defeat by Chelsea on Sunday.

The Red Devils were comfortably beaten 3-1 by Frank Lampard's side at Wembley thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud, Mason Mount and an own goal from United captain Harry Maguire.

Rashford started the semi-final but was hauled off by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when the game was beyond them. United know that wins in their last two Premier League games will seal Champions League football for next season.

In a social media post on Monday morning, Rashford tweeted: 'There’s no where [sic] to hide this morning, we just weren’t good enough yesterday.

Marcus Rashford says Man United were not good enough during their 3-1 defeat by Chelsea

'I’m gutted. But we have to brush that off and prepare for 2 huge games this week.

'Your support is everything and we never take that for granted. We’re going to need every single one of you behind us x'

Defeat at the last-four stage for United means they cannot equal Arsenal's FA Cup record of 13 cup triumphs in the famous old tournament this season.

However, Solskjaer's side will be looking to end the season strongly ahead of two crucial top-flight games to conclude their domestic campaign.

United host West Ham on Wednesday evening at Old Trafford and will move into the Premier League top four if they avoid defeat.

Defeat for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's side saw them crash out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage. Rashford called on United to put their woes behind them ahead of two crucial games this week

They then face a winner-takes-all clash away at Leicester City, who currently occupy fourth spot in the table, for the final match of the league campaign.

If Rashford and United do not secure a top-four finish this week, they can also qualify for Europe's premier club competition if they win the Europa League.

They host Austrian minnows LASK in the last-16 second leg on August 5, holding a 5-0 lead from the first match.

'Pogba was called embarrassing but nobody is talking about Rashford': Patrice Evra calls out the Manchester United striker for his poor performance as Gary Neville questions his fitness

* Manchester United drew 1-1 with West Ham at Old Trafford on Wednesday
* Marcus Rashford failed to get on the scoresheet for the second successive game
* Patrice Evra claimed the United and England forward had a 'really poor game'
* Gary Neville questioned Rashford's fitness levels during the match

Patrice Evra slammed Marcus Rashford for his display during Manchester United's 1-1 draw at home to West Ham United on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils dropped two crucial points in the race for the Champions League but still moved to third place ahead of the Premier League's final day on Sunday.

Mason Greenwood cancelled out Michal Antonio's first-half penalty following a ludicrous handball by Paul Pogba but it was Rashford who Sky Sports pundit Evra targeted for criticism after the game.

Marcus Rashford's performance during Man Utd's 1-1 draw versus West Ham was criticised. Patrice Evra said the Manchester United and England striker was 'really poor' during the draw

The former United defender said: 'I knew it would be a tough game for United but I'm disappointed with some of the performances.'

'They've been some harsh words about Pogba and the penalty incident but I've not seen any harsh words yet about Rashford.

'He had a really poor game today. But West Ham deserve a lot of credit.'

Fellow Manchester United legend Gary Neville, who was commentating during the game for Sky, questioned the England striker's fitness levels during the match.

Gary Neville questioned Rashford's fitness levels during the disappointing result for United. It is the second game in a row where Rashford (right) has failed to find the net

Rashford, who had scored in each of his last two Premier League games before the West Ham match, has now made it two consecutive games without a goal after failing to find the net during the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.

During the match, Neville said: 'Marcus Rashford has had a terrible 15 minutes. In terms of fitness too.

'Manchester United had been resting players ahead of the FA Cup semi-final but it doesn’t seem to have benefited them tonight. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone back to his favoured 11.

'They’re just not having the best of nights. Physically they just don’t look anywhere near it.

'Manchester United really have dropped off and with that the quality has dropped off.'

Manchester United travel to fifth-placed Leicester City on Sunday in a winner-takes-all for a spot in next season's Champions League.

Solskjaer's side know that a point will be enough to finish in the Premier League top-four.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford 'acquires his own golf course to build new home in search of more privacy as he buys greenfield site'

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has splashed out to buy his own golf course, according to reports.

The 22-year-old United and England striker currently lives in a £1.85million six-bed home in Cheshire.

But The Sun report that he has spent big money on the greenfield site as he plans to design and build a new home in the grounds.

The report claims he invested in the new site after deciding he needed somewhere more secluded to guarantee and protect his privacy.

The latest news demonstrates once again that he has come a long way from his humble beginnings growing up on a council estate in Wythenshawe in Greater Manchester.

The report comes after Rashford revealed that he will also grace the cover of fashion magazine Vogue.

The clearly-humbled 22-year-old shared the 'surreal' photo with his social media followers - but has rightly earned plaudits after leveraging the government to perform a sensational U-turn on their free school meals policy.

Rashford partnered with FareShare, a poverty and food waste charity, in March and has since raised more than £20million to ensure children are provided with school meals during lockdown.

It is for that reason that he was chosen by editor Edward Enninful, with the September issue likely to include a number of high-profile activists.

The United forward will also receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Manchester for his campaign against child poverty, the youngest recipient in the award's history.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford vows to find 'long-term answers' to child poverty in the UK after he was awarded the PFA Merit Award.

The England international stepped up and forced the UK government into a U-turn over it's free school meals policy during lockdown, which will ensure children in need would receive meals across the summer.

Rashford has also formed a child food poverty task force by linking up with the country's biggest supermarkets and food brands.

The 22-year-old was presented with the special accolade as recognition for his remarkable efforts.

'It's obviously a huge honour and I just hope it encourages and promotes other players to do things to help as much as they can,' the United forward told the club's official website.

'What we've done so far is only a short-term answer and me and my team behind me are just trying to find plans on how we can help these children for the rest of their childhood really and long-term answers to the problem.

Marcus Rashford has been awarded for his efforts to combat child poverty in the UK. Rashford forced the government to U-turn a decision over its free school meals policy. Rashford came up with the idea while he was out of the team following during an injury lay-off

'At the moment we don't have the answers but we'll do our best to try and find them and progress the situation that they're in the best way we can.'

Rashford said he came up with the plan to try and help people following a phone conversations with the rest of his family.

He said: 'I was injured during lockdown and at the beginning I was working towards getting back with the team and stuff like that but there were conversations going on saying there might not be games until September.

'When I was sat at home I just needed something to work towards and a goal to achieve.

'So that was just something I spoke about with my brothers over the phone and the rest of my family. We just tried to find the best way to try and help people.'

Rashford scored 22 goals in all competitions last season despite missing time through injury.

With an ever-strengthening squad, the youngster said he was excited for the season to start.

He said: 'We missed out on those trophies (Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League) but by very fine margins.

'Hopefully next year we can go that extra step. Trophies is what drives this club and it’s what’s important to all the players so it’s something we need to have in the future and I think the players understand that. I’m just looking forward to being involved in those games.”

Marcus Rashford insists there is no better incentive for Manchester United in the Premier League than trying to hunt down rivals Liverpool and Man City: 'We have to use all that as motivation'

* Marcus Rashford says chasing Liverpool and Man City adds to their motivation
* Man United are looking to re-establish themselves as top-flight title contenders
* He says 'team development' and constant 'improvement' is the most important
* Rashford says some clubs get too caught up in looking elsewhere for players

Marcus Rashford says chasing Liverpool and Manchester City adds spice to Manchester United's bid to re-establish themselves as Premier League title contenders.

United put together a nine-game unbeaten run, which included six wins, after lockdown to pip Chelsea to third place a the end of last season, although they finished the campaign 15 points adrift of neighbours City in second and a full 33 behind the Reds, who claimed their first league crown in 30 years.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side remain a work in progress, but Rashford and his team-mates could have no better incentive as they strive to reach greater heights than having two teams who have for so long assumed the status of arch-rivals at which to aim.

Rashford told the PA News agency: 'I think that's natural for anyone who plays for the club or anyone who's from Manchester. We have to use all that as motivation to keep improving as a team.

Marcus Rashford says chasing Liverpool and Man City adds to their motivation for next season. Rashford says Man United are looking to re-establish themselves as top-flight title contenders. He says 'team development' and constant 'improvement' is vital to their success in 2020-2021

'But we can't lose sight of what's important, and that's our own team's development and to keep improving.

'You can find yourself sometimes looking too much elsewhere, but we play our best and we improve most when we concentrate on ourselves as individuals and as a team.

'The manager always wants us to do that and that's the best way to do it.'

Only once since they won their 20th title and 13th of the Premier League era in 2012-13 have United finished higher than they did last season - they were runners-up under Jose Mourinho two years ago - and Rashford is convinced they now have something upon which to build.

He said: 'It's obviously a big step. The lads worked hard and for me, it's what we deserved as a team. We've had some tough times this season and some times where we've been unstoppable.

'But we need to find that consistency, that's the biggest thing for us. We have quite a young team, so if we can find that consistency, that will be important for us.'

The England striker, who is one of the stars of Coca-Cola's Make Your Home the Home End campaign which encourages fans watching the new Premier League season unfold on television to recreate a stadium atmosphere, missed five months of the last campaign with a back injury.

He made 13 appearances after the action resumed in June and extended his goal tally for the club to 22, although that did not match the expectations of a 22-year-old who has already achieved so much on and off the pitch.

He said: 'I missed four or five months and in my mind, I could have done much more this season. But for whatever reason, it didn't happen.

'I never lose touch with reality and I know next season, I have to come back better than I was last season.

'It was always my dream to play for Manchester United and to play as many games as I have is definitely a proud feeling. But as a player and as a person, it makes me want more and just to keep improving every day.'

Duh, Performa Rashford Terpengaruh Saga Transfer Sancho ke MU
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detikSport

London - Marcus Rashford kurang mengilap sejak fase akhir musim lalu.

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has thanked London mayor Sadiq Khan for his letter of support for his campaign to end child food poverty - and vowed that he is 'more determined than ever' to eradicate the problem.

The 22-year-old Manchester United and England striker has formed a task force along with some of the UK's biggest supermarkets and food brands designed to address the issue after persuading the Government to extend free school meals over the summer during lockdown.

His campaign has earned him widespread plaudits and an award from the Professional Footballers' Association, and now London's Mayor has thrown his weight behind the initiative.

Liverpool fan Khan joked that it was tough to be complimentary of a United player but praised the work Rashford has done.

In the letter, Khan wrote: 'As a child, I benefited from free school meals. Life would have been much harder for my family if we didn't have them and I know how important they are.

'Your campaign, as well as the tireless efforts of charities and campaigners, many of whom we work with here in London, meant hundreds of thousands of children received the vital support they desperately needed over the summer holiday.

'But our fight to end child poverty doesn't stop here. Every child should have the right to healthy, affordable and sustainable food no matter what their circumstances or where they live.

The London mayor and Liverpool fan penned a letter of support to Rashford on his campaign. The England striker said he is 'more determined than ever' after receiving Khan's kind words

'I will continue doing everything within my power to end the pandemic that is food poverty and support the most vulnerable children in our society so that each one of them can fulfil their potential, as you have done.

'Thank you once again for your inspiring work and best of luck in the future (apart from when you are playing at Anfield!)'

Rashford reposted Khan's post on Twitter, writing: 'More determined than ever, thank you for your kind words @SadiqKhan.'

He added: 'I do what I do for Liverpool as much as anywhere. Children all over the UK are crying out for our help. This is much bigger than me, than football, than politics. It’s time we all started listening, instead of clouding our views will allegiances and rivalries.'
