Man Utd pair Evans, Berbatov fail to shake off injuries

Manchester United pair Jonny Evans and Dimitar Berbatov will be rested for this week's Champions League commitments.

Evans, the defender, and Berbatov, the striker, are almost certain to miss United’s Champions League tie at home to Besiktas on Wednesday.

Evans is carrying a calf injury, while Berbatov has a knee problem. Both players aggravated their injuries while on international duty.

UNITED warmed up for a turkey shoot against Besiktas on Wednesday after rediscovering their killer instinct against Everton.

The Reds' 3-0 success was the first time they had enjoyed such a clear victory at Old Trafford all season.

Prior to the win United had conceded 11 times at home in nine matches and had failed to kill off sides.

But Wednesday's Champions League visitors from Istanbul have conceded six goals in their four Group B matches and have only one point.

With the Reds having already qualified for the knockout stages it is an opportunity to sharpen their goal-scoring claws.

"It has been a tad frustrating in that we haven't killed teams off. We have been creating chances but they have not been going in for us," said Michael Carrick.

"It was nice to kill the game off this time. We haven't been scoring an awful lot of goals at home to kill teams off so to see the second and third go in was nice and we could relax and play a bit of football.

"It was also very important we bounced back after the Chelsea defeat.

"We took a lot of positives out of the Chelsea game and we showed it didn't knock us out of our stride. We know what we can do and we believe we can still be up there when it counts."

Sekedar usulan aja nih untuk pengurus United Indonesia dan pengurus seluruh chapter dibawahnya. Belajar dari masalah yang dihadapi fredrian.seven dan mungkin member United Indonesia lainnya yang mungkin tidak berlangganan TV kabel, ada baiknya jika di setiap wilayah chapter disediakan tempat khusus (permanen) untuk nonton pertandingan MU dan iuran langganan TV kabel tersebut didapat dari iuran member chapter yang bersangkutan. Bukan kewajiban untuk nonton di tempat tersebut bagi yang telah berlangganan TV kabel namun bagi yang tidak berlangganan minimal ada tempat untuk menonton..

Sebaiknya pengurus United Indonesia mencoba membuat proposal untuk menjalin kerja sama dengan Indovision sehingga member United Indonesia mendapat diskon spesial pemasangan channel sport Indovision atau mungkin Indovision mau mensponsori kegiatan nonton bareng yang digelar United Indonesia berikut seluruh chapternya ? Lumayan kan, hehehe ....

Manchester United v Besiktas: Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda get chance

Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to hand teenage forwards Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda a Champions League challenge against Besiktas on Wednesday after claiming their time has come to make the big breakthrough at Manchester United.

Having already secured qualification from Group B, Ferguson admits he is now prepared to experiment with his team in the final two games, at home to Besiktas and away to Wolfsburg on Dec 8.

Young strikers Welbeck, 19 on Thursday, and Macheda, 18, have been conspicuous by their absence from Ferguson’s squads this term.

Barring sporadic outings in the Carling Cup, senior appearances have been limited for the youngsters.

But Ferguson admits that he must now test Welbeck and Macheda at the highest level in order not to stunt their development at Old Trafford.

Ferguson said: “I will be making changes (against Besiktas). Not a lot, but enough just to freshen it up.

“It’s a problem keeping players happy, but everyone has that when you have a squad of players.

“We use the League Cup for that and, if we can qualify early enough in the (Champions League) group, we can then use the likes of Welbeck.

“He will definitely play (against Besiktas) and Macheda too probably. They are the ones that need to be challenged.

“They’ve reached a point, and it happens in football, when a footballer has the ability to be a top player and you recognise that.

“You have to give them the challenge. If you don’t, they lose the scent.

“But this club has been good at recognising that over the years.

“It’s unfortunate for players above them, but when the likes of Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes came through, we thought they were certainties, but we had to give them a chance. And we did.

“That’s the nature of football. A young player turns the corner and takes someone’s job.”

United are three points clear of second placed Wolfsburg and top spot will, and a seeding for the second round draw, will be secured with four points from their remaining two games.

But Ferguson admits that, despite the planned changes, he expects his team to deliver positive results.

He said: “We have two records to maintain. Our home record has been really good over the last few years, but away from home, we can go past Ajax’s record of being unbeaten if we avoid defeat in Wolfsburg.

“So we have that consistency to protect and hopefully we can do that.”

Dimitar Berbatov may return for Manchester United against Besiktas

Dimitar Berbatov could make his return from injury in Manchester United's Champions League game against Besiktas at Old Trafford. The Bulgarian missed matches either side of the international break with a knee injury and Sir Alex Ferguson stated on Saturday his £30.75m forward would miss tomorrow evening's game too.

However, Berbatov was able to train with his team-mates today and Ferguson may now consider using him against Besiktas, who are winless in the group.

Ferguson does have a few injury concerns. Rio Ferdinand is definitely out with an injury to his lower back, as is Johnny Evans after failing to recover from a calf problem. Neither John O'Shea nor the captain Gary Neville were training with the main group this morning. That could mean a rare start for the likes of Darron Gibson and Gabriel Obertan.

The main change, though, will be in goal. Edwin van der Sar was not expected to face the Turkish champions even before he suffered a knock on a knee in Saturday's win over Everton.

The Dutchman was not training this morning, which leaves Ferguson to decide between Tomasz Kuszczak and Ben Foster, who last week expressed frustration at apparently only being third choice for United despite playing in England's last two internationals.
