Fergie Santai Meski MU Kalah
Doni Wahyudi - detiksport

Red Missed: Sir Alex Ferguson attacks French ref as Manchester United's home run ends

Sir Alex Ferguson has taken his attack on referees into Europe after Manchester United lost their 23-match unbeaten home record in the Champions League with a 1-0 loss to Besiktas.

Turkish delight: Besiktas' Rodrigo Tello is mobbed by his team mates

Ferguson is about to start a two-match touchline ban after comments he made about English referee Alan Wiley earlier this season.

Irritated: Fergie fumed as United were denied a stonewall penalty

But last night the United manager rounded on French official Stephane Lannoy after Patrice Evra was denied a late penalty.

Late appeal: Referee Lannoy waved away United's pleas for a penalty after Evra was felled by Ibrahim Kas

Ferguson said: ‘I was right to be irritated. If you can’t get penalties like this one, then the game’s in trouble.’

In trouble: Kas and Evra collide

MANCHESTER UNITED'S LOSS TO BESKITAS RAISES QUESTION OVER KEEPER BEN FOSTER
-dailyexpress.co.uk-

Sir Alex Ferguson reasoned on the eve of this game that young players can lose the scent if they are not given first-team chances.

Last night his kids did not so much lose the scent but lose the plot as Manchester United’s proud 23-game unbeaten home record hit the dust in the Champions League.

They dominated the game but lacked composure in the last third and were beaten by Rodrigo Tello’s 20th-minute goal that raised more question marks over goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Thanks to Wolfsburg s defeat to CSKA Moscow, already-qualified United needed only a point to finish top of Group B.

But following their first European home defeat since Hernan Crespo’s header gave AC Milan a 1-0 win in February 2005, United will go to Germany still needing a draw to go through to the last 16 in first place.

United came close to pulling off one of their typical late comebacks with substitute Patrice Evra denied a clear penalty and Federico Macheda and Wes Brown seeing goal-bound headers brilliantly saved by Rustu Recber in added time.

But despite the frustration of the defeat, Ferguson will console himself that at least his youngsters have learned some valuable lessons.

Ferguson, as promised, gave his kids their chance, making eight changes and picking the youngest strike force he has ever fielded for a European game with Danny Welbeck and Macheda, both still teenagers.

It was Welbeck’s European debut and came on the eve of his 19th birthday.

A third teenager, Rafael Da Silva, was also included, while Gabriel Obertan, Anderson, 21, Darron Gibson, 22, helped to bring the average age of the team down to 24.

The young side heeded Ferguson’s demand to be aggressive and express themselves on their big night.

They could have been in front after a minute when Obertan sent over a dangerous cross from the right that Macheda just failed to connect with. Macheda then set up Welbeck for a shot that was blocked by a defender.

United kept up the early pressure and Gibson’s deflected shot landed on top of the net to earn United their first corner. From Anderson’s delivery Nemanja Vidic was left unmarked and should have scored but badly miscued his header across the penalty area.

Gibson was furious with himself after curling a good chance wide before Macheda cut in from the right and also shot wide.

Besiktas, who had not been a serious threat, took a surprise lead after 20 minutes with a goal that raised more question marks over the unfortunate Foster.

His hopes of a clean sheet in his first home game since his blunder against Sunderland snapped Ferguson’s patience, were dashed by Tello’s long-range shot. Foster could point to the fact that his defenders gave Tello, who received a crossfield ball from Ismail Koybasi, far too much time to line up his 30-yard effort that took a slight deflection off Rafael’s shoulder on its way into the far corner.

But the suspicion remained he could have done better, given the shot was not very powerful.

It gave Besiktas a shot of confidence. They haven’t been the best travellers to England – their last game on these shores ended in an 8-0 humiliation at Anfield.

The Turks, beaten by Paul Scholes’ header in Istanbul back in September, had only one point from the previous four group games.

United went looking for an equaliser but for all their dominance, United were lucky not to go in at the break two down with Michael Fink rolling a chance just wide after Bobo had set him up.

United’s second-half efforts continued to be met with frustration. Ji-Sung Park lashed a shot just wide before Obertan, who was looking United’s most dangerous player, saw a low shot, after a weaving run, tipped round by Recber. Obertan then directed a looping header onto the roof of the net.

Substitutes Michael Owen, Michael Carrick and Evra could not make up the difference.

MAN UTD (4-4-2): Foster; Neville, Brown, Vidic, Rafael (Evra 73); Obertan, Gibson (Carrick 73), Anderson, Park (Owen 68); Welbeck, Macheda.

BESIKTAS (4-2-3-1): Recber; Kas, Ferrari, Toraman (Guven 67), Uzulmez; Fink, Ernst; Dag, Tello (Inceman 75), Koybas; Bobo (Karadeniz 84). Booked: Karadeniz, Recber. Goal: Tello 20.

Referee: S Lannoy (France).

Fergie stands by Reds kids
-manchestereveningnews.co.uk-

UNITED manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes his youngsters will learn from experience after their 23-match unbeaten home record in the Champions League proper came to an unexpected end.

A goal from Rodrigo Tello in the 20th minute at Old Trafford was enough to give Besiktas their first win in Group B.

Tello's effort from distance deflected off Rafael and past a startled Ben Foster, who had been recalled to the side after two games for England.

With qualification to the last 16 already assured, Ferguson handed starts to the likes of Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck, Gabriel Obertan and Darron Gibson.

United were looking for the point that would have seen them finish as group leaders, but came up short.

Ferguson said: “I thought we needed a bit of composure. The young players were a bit anxious and that is understandable in a way.

“It was an experimental line-up in a way. We have to be fair in the way we assess the players in these games.
“The value is the trust we have got in playing these young players. They are potentially top players.

“We know about Macheda and Welbeck while Obertan has only arrived at the club after having a long spell out through injury.

“The important thing is, though, they showed a good level. In the first half we had good opportunities but got caught on the counter-attack, which can happen of course.

“The goal followed a deflection off Rafael and we were chasing the game. Deflections off the body have a certain speed and that can cause a problem.”

United almost drew level in stoppage time but Besiktas goalkeeper Rustu Recber made two superb saves in quick succession from Macheda and then Wes Brown.

They also had a claim for a penalty dismissed late on by referee Stephane Lannoy when substitute Patrice Evra appeared to be blocked by Ibrahim Kas.

Evra appealed in vain and Ferguson questioned the decision, after feeling they also had a spot-kick claim rejected in the draw against CSKA Moscow last time around.

“I was right to be agitated, ” said the United boss. “If you can't give one like this and the one against CSKA Moscow then you are in trouble.

“It's a penalty kick - that's two games in a row they have denied us stonewall penalties but what can you do about it?”
