Sir Alex Ferguson reckons it is going to be very difficult for Manchester United to win the league, but he recognises that the Reds have to win the derby next Saturday against Manchester City - for the fans.

“City is a derby game, so that takes away the issue of chasing the league. It’s a derby, it’s its own entity, and is all about supporters’ pride and bragging rights for the next few months. It’s a game we’re looking forward to.”

Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha roared 'Bring on United' after helping his team continue their blistering run of form. Roberto Mancini's men took their tally to an amazing 14 goals in three matches by demolishing Birmingham 5-1. And they are in ominous form to strike another blow to their neighbours' title hopes in the eagerly-anticipated derby on Saturday. The defender said: "We're confident going into the derby. We're winning games and scoring goals so we should have a good chance. You know what derby games are like, anything can happen, but hopefully it'll be our day." Boss Mancini admits he will be just as happy with a single-goal victory over Alex Ferguson's stuttering champs. The Italian said: "We will look forward to that game with United but we used up a lot of energy here so we will recover and then think about the game against them. We have respect for them because they are an important team, but we want to win for our position. It's impossible to continue to score three or four goals in the next games. We'll try, but if we win 1-0 I'll be very happy. In the next five games that would be good for us."

Of course, there's plenty of reaction to United's 0-0 draw at Blackburn on Sunday, with many papers claiming United have blown the chance to secure a fourth consecutive league title. In The Telegraph, Kevin Garside concedes it will be difficult, but resists the urge (unlike so many others) to slip into sensationalism: "Just as Bayern Munich's Champions League advance does not make them the Barcelona of the Bundesliga," he writes, "so Sunday's draw at Ewood Park and the European exit does not establish the downgrading of United. This has been a season of transition at Old Trafford. United are not without concerns but none that are anywhere near terminal."

Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini will be told to keep a lid on their players’ derby-day goal celebrations after a warning from Manchester police.

Manchester United face bitter rivals City at Eastlands in a lunchtime showdown, which is one of the most important derby games in years.

It emerged last night that Greater Manchester Police have contacted both Barclays Premier League clubs this week, telling them that there must be no repeat of the provocative player behaviour that has marred the fixture this season.

Two Carling Cup meetings between the teams in January featured crowd trouble inside and outside Eastlands and Old Trafford that Manchester police had not
witnessed for some years and senior officers believe the behaviour of some players did not help.

In a league meeting between the teams last September, City striker Craig Bellamy clashed with a fan on the pitch at Old Trafford, while United skipper Gary Neville was warned by the FA for the way he celebrated his team’s winning goal.

Then, in the Carling Cup at Eastlands in January, City’s former United star Carlos Tevez celebrated the first of his two goals by running provocatively along the touchline and exchanging gestures with former team-mate Neville. In the second leg, Bellamy was hit by a bottle.

City have been boosted this week by a return to training for Wayne Bridge who has been out for a month with a knee problem. The former England left back will start tomorrow’s game.

Meanwhile, manager Mancini was yesterday warned about his own behaviour by the FA after admitting a charge of improper conduct.

The Italian was charged after barging in to Everton manager David Moyes towards the end of a game between the teams on March 24.

He was also handed a £20,000 fine, suspended until the end of the 2011-12 season.

Manchester - Tingginya tensi Derby Manchester membuat kepolisian setempat berada dalam kewaspadaan penuh. Pihak berwajib secara khusus juga memperingatkan Carlos Tevez dan Gary Neville.

Pertandingan antara Manchester United kontra Manchester City dihelat Sabtu (17/4/2010) di City of Manchester Stadium. Laga antara dua tim elit ini dipastikan akan berlangsung 'panas', tidak hanya di luar lapangan tapi juga antar pemain.

Publik tentu masih ingat dengan perselisihan antara Tevez dan Neville ketika kedua timnya bertemu di leg pertama semifinal Piala Carling, Januari silam. Tevez yang mencetak gol lantas melakukan selebrasi provokatif yang kemudian dibalas dengan acungan jari tengah oleh Neville.

Meskipun kejadian itu sudah berlalu namun hingga kini keduanya belum menunjukkan tanda adanya 'kesepakatan damai'. Walau begitu, diharapkan Tevez dan Neville dapat menjaga sikapnya agar tercipta suasana yang menyenangkan selama pertandingan.

"Tujuan utama kami adalah menyakinkan laga tersebut menjadi sebuah pengalaman yang menyenangkan buat semua fans," tegas Ian Hopkins, Asisten Kepala Polisi setempat yang dikutip The Sun.

"Ketika sebuah kelompok minoritas melakukan tindakan buruk, maka hal itu akan berdampak buat semua orang," tuntas dia.

Selama pertandingan tersebut, polisi dan stewards akan menjalankan prosedur pengamanan yang ketat. Bahkan polisi akan menyambangi ruang ganti kedua tim untuk memperingatkan kedua kubu untuk berkelakuan baik dan tiga memprovokasi penonton.
