Mourinho to be confirmed Manchester United manager THIS week



Jose Mourinho will be confirmed Manchester United manager before the end of the week, with Ed Woodward confident negotiations are now in the final stages.

United’s executive vice chairman held talks with the 53-year-old’s agent Jorge Mendes in London on Tuesday.
As a result of that meeting Mourinho is set to become their third manager in three years, following the failed reigns of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager is the man they want to return the club to the summit of English football after missing out on the Champions League twice in the last three seasons.

An announcement could be made as early as Wednesday - but the anticipation within Old Trafford is that they will be in a position to confirm his appointment before the week is out.

United had already identified Mourinho as Van Gaal’s successor before the Dutchman was sacked on Monday.

After months of speculation, sources revealed Mourinho’s imminent appointment on the same day as Van Gaal led United to their first trophy post Sir Alex Ferguson - Saturday’s FA Cup triumph over Crystal Palace.

Mourinho is believed to want final say on transfers when he takes up his position ahead of what is expected to be another busy summer of spending at United.
