Default Re: Manchester United - Loan Watch 2013/14

LOAN WATCH: This week

Manchester United’s loan stars were once again in action on Wednesday evening in the Sky Bet Championship and League Two. There were five players in action on Tuesday evening, with five more named on the team sheets on Wednesday evening. The only player missing for their loan side was Charni Ekangamene, who was recalled for United before the weekend and he played for the U21 side on Monday evening when they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0.

Tyler Blackett – Birmingham City

Tyler Blackett played the full 90 minutes in the 3-3 draw with Burnley on Wednesday evening. It was a very lively match, in which the home side did not get started until after the hour mark, with United team-mate Federico Macheda the man of the moment for the club. Blackett played well in his left-back role, even assisting in the final goal of the match, but Burnley were too much for him and the rest of the defence to contain. It was a point well-earned for the home side though, especially from a losing position.

Next Match: Sheffield Wednesday – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 15th March 2014, KO 15:00

Federico Macheda – Birmingham City

Federico Macheda started the 3-3 draw on the bench, which was a good thing as he came onto the pitch inspired and managed to score the equaliser within four minutes. Burnley went ahead again just three minutes later, with Birmingham City equalising again two minutes after that. Burnley scored what they thought was the winner four minutes from time before Macheda was set up for United team-mate Tyler Blackett and he found the back of the net, earning a point for the home side.

Next Match: Sheffield Wednesday – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 15th March 2014, KO 15:00

Michael Keane – Blackburn Rovers

Michael Keane made his second start for his new loan club, which resulted in another defeat this time 1-0 to Bournemouth. It was a 67th minute goal that proved the difference between both sides. Keane did play well and could have earned a point for his side with an 89th minutes header on goal, which he has been clinical in finishing in the past, but Cook cleared the ball to maintain the lead for his side. It was another unlucky one for Keane.

Next Match: Huddersfield Town – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 15th March 2014, KO 15:00

Nick Powell – Wigan Athletic

Nick Powell made his return to the squad from injury on Wednesday evening. He was a substitute, making his return to the game after spending the last six weeks or so on the sidelines. Powell replaced James McArthur on the 54th minute of the 1-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday, which sees Wigan level on points with sixth placed Reading with goal difference separating them. Wigan do have two games in hand though. The United attacking midfielder will be rusty for a few matches as he gets fully match fit. He did have a shot on goal six minutes from time, but it went over the crossbar. James Perch won a penalty two minutes from time, which Jordi Gomez scored to earn all three points from the match.

Next Match: Ipswich Town – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 15th March 2014, KO 15:00

Sam Byrne – Carlisle United

Sam Byrne started the 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United on Wednesday evening. The United wing forward joined former United team-mate Reece Brown, who recently completed a loan deal from Watford. Byrne had a shot on the 37th minute of the match, but it was wide. Carlisle were unlucky to conceded the goal, but they will bounce back, possible this weekend when they face Stevenage. Charni Ekangamene missed the match after being recalled by United for Monday’s U21 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Next Match: Stevenage – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 15th March 2014, KO 15:00

United loan watch: Powell returns, Macheda brace, Johnstone fortune

Nick Powell looked good after an injury lay-off and a number of other Reds were in action for their loan clubs in midweek. See how they got on.

Nick Powell made his return from injury, coming on as a substitute for the last 35 minutes in Wigan's win over Sheffield Wednesday. The midfielder - who has missed the last nine games - looked lively on his return. Given a wide role on the left, Powell nearly set up a goal within minutes of coming on with a cute through ball for James McClean.

Federico Macheda earned Birmingham a point in a 3-3 draw with Championship high-flyers Burnley. The striker came off the bench for the last half-hour and levelled the game at 1-1 with a calm finish. After three more goals, Macheda equalised again deep into injury time to make it 3-3, reacting quickly after fellow loanee Tyler Blackett's cross was touched on.

Sam Johnstone helped Doncaster to make it two wins in four days as he played in a 2-1 win over Watford. The keeper looked to be in trouble when he appeared to bring Hornets striker Troy Deeney down before the break, but escaped without card or penalty and Billy Sharp secured a last-minute win for Rovers.

Michael Keane suffered his second defeat in four day as Blackburn lost at home again on Wednesday night, this time to Bournemouth. Lewis Grabban's goal proved enough for Eddie Howe's men.

His twin Will also lost with QPR as they went down 2-0 to Brighton. Keane played the full game but couldn't find a way past ex-Reds keeper Tomasz Kuszczak. Jesse Lingard impressed for the Seagulls, although he was booked.

Jack Barmby played his part for Hartlepool as they secured a 0-0 draw away at Accrington. Starting in midfield, Barmy completed the majority of the game, going off with five minutes to go.

Sam Byrne and Carlisle remain near the drop zone in League One after a 1-0 loss to high-flying Sheffield United. Byrne started up front but struggled against a discplined Blades defence and was subbed off with 20 minutes to go.

It was a simliar story for Tom Lawrence and Yeovil, who fell to a 1-0 defeat against Ipswich. Lawrence played the whole game up front but couldn't find the net. Manager Gary Johnson admitted after the game that the team had been "poor".

LOAN WATCH: Lingard assists as Brighton draw

Manchester United’s loan stars again represented their respective teams on Tuesday evening in their bids to better their league positions in their quests for promotion. Four players represented their sides, here is how I feel they fared:

Michael Keane – Blackburn Rovers

Michael Keane played the full 90 minutes in the 3-3 draw at home to Brighton & Hove Albion. The United defender put in a good performance, which will get him noticed by manager David Moyes with an eye on the first team next season. This was a match that Blackburn needed to win if they were to have a chance of getting into a play off position this season. They currently lie seven points adrift of sixth placed Reading with seven matches remaining.

Next Match: Ipswich Town – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Jesse Lingard – Brighton & Hove Albion

Jesse Lingard played the full 90 minutes in the 3-3 draw away to Blackburn Rovers. Lingard had a good game setting up David Rodriguez’s 17th minute goal. Blackburn scored twice before half time putting them into the lead. An equaliser from Gordon Greer with eleven minutes remaining but Brighton back into the match. A late penalty meant that the home side took the lead, but Lingard once again showed his class by assisting in a late equaliser which Dale Stephens scored.

Next Match: Barnsley – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Davide Petrucci – Charlton Athletic

Davide Petrucci was a substitute in the 1-0 victory over Leeds United replacing goal scorer Reza Ghoochannejhad on the 85th minute of the match. The Italian midfielder was not given enough time to get into the match, and with all three points secured, he was brought on to give fresh legs for the remainder of the match. Charlton have risen out of the relegation zone and currently have two matches in hand over Birmingham City who are two points clear.

Next Match: Reading – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 15:00

Nick Powell – Wigan Athletic

Nick Powell started for Wigan Athletic in their 2-2 draw with league leaders Leicester City. Powell has been injured and will now be match fit for the vital part of the season. Now that the Latics are four points clear of sixth placed Reading and five points adrift of fourth places Derby County, the chances of them obtaining a play off place at the end of the season is pretty high. Powell is the clubs top scorer and is vital for that push. He was replaced on the 66th minute by Marc-Antoine Fortune.

Next Match: Leeds United - Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 5th April 2014, KO 12:15

Default Re: Manchester United - Loan Watch 2013/14

Jadi makin gak tau dengan nasib mereka musim depan.

LOAN WATCH: Barmby and Lawrence both score!

Manchester United’s loan players were again in action this Easter weekend, with clubs finally coming to the end of the season and learning their fate on whether they will be promoted, heading into play offs, staying in the same league for another season, or even being relegated. Two United loanees scored today, Tom Lawrence, which kept Yeovil Town’s hopes of surviving relegation alive, if only for another match day and Jack Barmby also scored today, in a victory which took the North East club five point above the relegation zone.

Wilfried Zaha – Cardiff City

Wilfried Zaha played 30 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City in the Barclays Premier League. He played well when he came on and used his pace to beat the Stoke City defence but could not convert his chance. Also he made a brilliant run on the right side but he couldn’t find a team mate in the box.

Next Match: Sunderland – Barclays Premier League – Sunday 27th April 2014, KO 12:00

Tyler Blackett – Birmingham City

Tyler Blackett played 46 minutes in the 4-2 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship. The young United defender didn’t have a brilliant game but made some brilliant challenges to stop Blackburn scoring more than they actually did.

Next Match: Leeds United – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Federico Macheda – Birmingham City

Federico Macheda played the full 90 minutes in the 4-2 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship. Macheda had a couple of chances on goal but nothing too challenging for the Blackburn goalkeeper.

Next Match: Leeds United – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Tom Thorpe – Birmingham City

Tom Thorpe played the full 90 minutes in the 4-2 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship. Thorpe played quite well considering the score, he tried doing everything he could to prevent Blackburn from finding the back of the net again. He’s shown what sort of defender he has become since he’s been on loan, making some brilliant tackles.

Next Match: Leeds United – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Michael Keane – Blackburn Rovers

Michael Keane played full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Yeovil Town in the Sky Bet Championship at the weekend, but did not feature in the 4-2 victory against Birmingham City. Keane has shown that he a decent centre back, and a right-back since he’s been on loan this season. He made some brilliant challenges to prevent Yeovil from scoring in the 0-0 draw, which could suggest he has a future at the Old Trafford club.

Next Match: Charlton Athletic – Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Jesse Lingard – Brighton & Hove Albion

Jesse Lingard played 87 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town on Friday and on Monday he played for 88 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Blackpool in the Sky Bet Championship. Lingard had some decent chances in both matches but couldn’t find the back of the net to carry on his goal scoring form.

Next Match: Yeovil Town - Sky Bet Championship – Friday 25th April 2014, KO 19:45

Davide Petrucci – Charlton Athletic

Davide Petrucci did not feature in both games in the Sky Bet Championship this Easter weekend.

Next Match: Blackburn Rovers - Sky Bet Championship - Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Sam Johnstone – Doncaster Rovers

Sam Johnstone played full 90 minutes in the 2-0 defeat to Derby County and the 0-0 draw with Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship. He made some brilliant saves to prevent Derby and Millwall scoring but couldn’t manage to keep Derby County’s strikers out, but managed a clean sheet against Millwall in a crucial game at the foot of the table.

Next Match: Reading - Sky Bet Championship - Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Will Keane – Queens Park Rangers

Will Keane did not feature in the 1-0 defeat to Leicester City and the 2-1 win over Watford in the Sky Bet Championship this weekend.

Next Match: Millwall - Sky Bet Championship - Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Nick Powell – Wigan Athletic

Nick Powell played 17 minutes in the 3-0 win over Reading and did not feature in the 2-0 defeat to Burnley in the Sky Bet Championship. Powell had one really good chance against Reading but failed to convert the chance. Powell has shown his true class while he’s been on loan at Wigan and could be vital to United’s squad next season, which is currently undergoing a lot of change once again.

Next Match: Blackpool - Sky Bet Championship - Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Tom Lawrence – Yeovil Town

Tom Lawrence played full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers and in the 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town in the Sky Bet Championship. He scored again for Yeovil Town and has proven vital for them since he joined on loan and grabbing some important goals over the second half of the season.

Next Match: Brighton & Hove Albion - Sky Bet Championship – Friday 25th April 2014, KO 19:45

Sam Byrne – Carlisle United

Sam Byrne played 5 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Walsall and played 15 minutes in the 4-1 defeat to Peterborough United in the Sky Bet League One. He had a great chance to score in the 4-1 defeat to Peterborough but narrowly missed the target from 12 yards out.

Next Match: Oldham Athletic – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Jack Barmby – Hartlepool United

Jack Barmby played 22 minutes in the 3-0 defeat to Burton Albion and played 12 minutes in the 2-1 victory over Morecambe in the Sky Bet League Two. Barmby showed some true quality in his goal to make it 2-1 against Morecambe with a stunning finish outside the box. He also could have made it a bigger margin but just missed the target.

Next Match: Plymouth Argyle - Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Liam Grimshaw – Morecambe

Liam Grimshaw was not involved in the 2-1 defeat to Hartlepool United in the Sky Bet League Two.

Next Match: AFC Wimbledon - Sky Bet League Two – Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 15:00

Anderson – Fiorentina

Anderson was an unused substitute in the 1-0 defeat to AS Roma.

Next Match: Bologna – Serie A – Saturday 26th April 2014, KO 17:00

Bebe – Paços de Ferreira

Bebe played full 90 minutes in the 5-0 defeat to Nacional in the Primeira Liga. The Portuguese winger had one really good chance in the defeat but missed that target, meaning he failed carry on his goal scoring form for his loan club, but he has had a great season with them.

Next Match: Rio Ave – Primeira Liga – Sunday 4th May 2014, KO 16:00

Angelo Henriquez – Real Zaragoza

Angelo Henriquez played 61 minutes in the 1-0 win over Real Jaen in the Segunda Division. The Chilean striker played well in the win but couldn’t carry on his goal scoring form since coming back from injury. He had two clear-cut chances to score but they were saved but Real Jaen’s keeper.

Next Match: Girona – Liga Adelante – Sunday 27th April 2014, KO 18:00

Loanees set for drama

Manchester United’s loanees are embroiled in the key promotion and relegation issues as the Championship season draws to an exciting climax on Saturday.

Will Keane’s QPR and Nick Powell’s Wigan Athletic have both clinched play-off places but Jesse Lingard faces final-day drama with Brighton & Hove Albion. The England Under-21 international has been instrumental in the Seagulls’ charge towards the top six but Reading are a point ahead in the final spot. Lingard, who is in action at Nottingham Forest, and hoping for favourable news from the Royals’ home clash with already-promoted Burnley, continues to impress United's reserve-team coach Warren Joyce.

“Jesse is a good player,” he told United Review. “I am sure he could play in the Premier League. He has done everything that has been asked of him there and hopefully he ends up getting experience of the play-offs and even appearing at Wembley.”

Michael Keane looks likely to narrowly miss out on extending the season with Blackburn Rovers but the defender has earned praise from manager Gary Bowyer for his fine displays and three goals from a defensive position. “The level of performances Michael has produced for us has been exceptional,” enthused Bowyer.

At the other end of the table, Doncaster Rovers keeper Sam Johnstone is likely to be busy against champions Leicester City, who are bidding to break the 100-point mark, at the King Power Stadium. Rovers are only a point above Birmingham City, who occupy the remaining relegation spot, with a far inferior goal difference. The Midlanders, who have 10-goal Federico Macheda and Tyler Blackett in their ranks but have lost Tom Thorpe to injury, finish at Bolton Wanderers.

Yeovil Town have already been consigned to League One, despite Tom Lawrence’s best efforts, but Davide Petrucci’s Charlton Athletic have retained their Championship status.

Sam Byrne and Carlisle United face relegation to League Two, barring any last-day miracles, but Jack Barmby’s Hartlepool United are already safe in the bottom tier, thanks largely to the forward’s goals in consecutive games against Morecambe and Plymouth Argyle.

United loan watch: Joy for Macheda, Anderson left out, Zaha relegated

Wilfried Zaha suffered the ignominy of relegation with his loan club, but Federico Macheda helped Birmingham to Championship safety.

The final throes of the season have provided a useful learning curve for United 's loan stars if this week is anything to go by.

Unfortunately for Wilfried Zaha , he will have the experience of relegation to call upon further down the line in his career, after Cardiff's fate was sealed on Saturday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men suffered a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park which ensured they will be back in the Championship next term without Zaha.

By contrast, Federico Macheda was treated to the utter joy of securing safety on the last day with Birmingham as Paul Caddis' 90th-minute equaliser against Bolton kept Birmingham up.

The Reds youngster was brought on an hour into a game he will likely remember for the rest of his career.

There was also last-minute delight for Jesse Lingard , who played just under an hour in Brighton's 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

The Seagulls needed a goal from Leonardo Ulloa at the death to clinch a place in the play-offs but just pipped Reading and are now in with a shout of promotion.

Blackburn won't be featuring in that high-stakes shootout, despite claiming a 4-3 win over Wigan (who will) on the last day.

Michael Keane played 90 minutes in the hosts' defence again at Ewood Park, but there was no place in the Latics' squad for midfielder Nick Powell .

Keane will at least be able to watch his brother, Will Keane, take part in the play-offs with QPR. He warmed up for those crucial fixtures by coming on 57 minutes into a 3-2 win over Barnsley on the last day.

Davide Petrucci also won with Charlton on Sunday, coming on in the second half as the Addicks beat Blackpool.

Over in Europe, there was largely disappointment for United's loan stars over the weekend.

Angelo Henriquez failed to make the Real Zaragoza bench, while Anderson was left out of Fiorentina's Coppa Italia final defeat to Napoli.

And Bebe could be facing relegation on the final day of the Portuguese season, with Pacos Ferreira one point short of safety after being held to a 0-0 draw by Rio Ave.

Default Re: Manchester United - Loan Watch 2013/14

Loans: Lingard play-off woe

Jesse Lingard scored but could not help Brighton & Hove Albion into the Championship play-off final over a weekend where several Manchester United loan players were in action.

The United midfielder put the South Coast club ahead with a shot from the edge of the area early in the first leg of the semi-final against Derby County, but Steve McClaren’s in-form Rams overturned the deficit to return to Pride Park with a 2-1 lead. Sunday’s second leg saw Derby romp to a 4-1 win and a 6-2 aggregate victory, ending Lingard’s stint with the Seagulls in which the 21-year-old scored four goals in 17 outings.

The other Championship play-off will be resolved on Monday night when QPR face Wigan at Loftus Road, but whether either side’s United players will feature is in doubt. Striker Will Keane was not in Harry Redknapp’s Rangers matchday squad for last Friday’s goalless draw at Wigan, for whom Nick Powell also missed out. Powell is rated a major doubt for the return leg due to a hamstring injury and illness.

Wilfried Zaha did not feature for Cardiff when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s relegated side were beaten 2-1 at home by Chelsea on Sunday. The United winger was not included in the matchday squad as Solskjaer opted to try out some fringe players and Zaha’s spell in the Welsh capital came to an end after 13 appearances in all competitions since his move in January.

Bebe enjoyed mixed fortunes for Pacos de Ferreira, scoring twice, but was otherwise unable to prevent his side’s relegation from the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Pacos were already two goals down to Academica when the striker bagged his first in the 18th minute, and his penalty just after the half-hour mark raised hopes but, just four minutes later they were behind again, before eventually losing 4-2. The 23-year-old scored 13 times in his 32 appearances, which included five Europa League matches.

Marnick Vermijl’s NEC Nijmegan dropped out of the Dutch Eredivisie after losing a two-legged play-off to Sparta Rotterdam. The 22-year-old defender, who joined United in 2010, did not feature in the drawn first leg, and was brought on after 50 minutes of the 3-1 loss in the second game that led to a 4-2 aggregate defeat. The Belgian scored three goals in his 28 appearances for NEC this term.

Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez was substituted after 64 minutes of his Real Zaragoza side’s 2-1 win over Levante in Spain’s Segunda Division, while Anderson was not involved at all as Fiorentina beat Livorno 1-0 in Serie A.
