Lumsden began his career at Leeds, playing only a handful of matches, before representing Southend, Greenock Morton, St Mirren and Clydebank.

Coaching career:

The Glaswegian famously discovered Moyes as a young player at Celtic and, ironically, linked up with him when the younger Scot took charge at Preston North End. Both men then moved to Everton in 2002, where their partnership blossomed in the top-flight.

David Moyes mulls over taking Everton coach Jimmy Lumsden to Manchester United

Lumsden, 65, first came across Moyes as a youth player at Celtic and has worked alongside him since he took over at Preston North End in 1998.

Moyes insisted on Lumsden, another Glaswegian who began his playing career at Leeds, following him to Everton four years later.

Lumsden has been Moyes’ sounding board throughout his managerial career and is usually by the manager’s side when he begins the analysis of the opposition ahead of matches.

His opinions are highly-valued by Moyes and Lumsden has spoken in the past that their relationship works because he is not simply a ‘yes man.’

“I wouldn’t say it’s friendship all the time,” he said. “We’re close, but I’ve got to be truthful and say part of the reason I think I’m there is because we don’t agree a lot of the time.

“We see eye to eye on the important things, eventually, but not everything and he accepts that. I don’t just nod my head and say ‘Yes Gaffer, you’re right’. I’ll say my piece and stick by it and sometimes I’m proved right and sometimes not.

“We bounce off each other well because of that and he knows he’ll get honesty from me when we’re discussing a player or something.”

Kayanya masalah istilah saja, di manutd[dot]com sebagai sumber utama "Moyes man" hanya menyertakan "coach" gak ada first team coach.

Lalu kenapa Rene dikasih embel2 "first team" dong klo nggak ada artinya ? Emang sih sama2 pelatih tapi jelas beda maksudnya.

Aku setuju sama @Federico27, mungkin Moyes akan lebih banyak ambil bagian ngelatih tim utama. Beda dengan kebijakan Fergie yang lebih mempercayakan Rene (dan mungkin Phelan) buat ngelatih tim utama, Moyes cenderung lebih seneng ngelatih sendiri.Itu juga salah satu alasan kenapa Rene milih cabut. Dia takut (atau mungkin nggak nyaman) "kuasa" dia untuk melatih tim utama berkurang. Jadi nanti Lumsden "hanya pembantu" Moyes aja, beda dengan Rene yang mungkin perannya lebih besar.
