DAVID MARSHALL (Cardiff)
Had a brilliant season and with his reputation now sky-high, plenty of clubs will want him.

DANIEL STURRIDGE (Liverpool)
A surprise hit this season but he has finally found a home at Liverpool. Injury came at a bad time but he has been brilliant.

LUIS SUAREZ (Liverpool)
Without doubt Suarez is my player of the year. He has had an absolutely phenomenal season. Some count his past against him but if you look at seasons in isolation, there has been nobody better this campaign.

EDEN HAZARD (Chelsea)
Still just 22 and will only get better. Had such a good season and just blows people away with his pace.

MANAGER

TONY PULIS (Crystal Palace)
There have been some outstanding managers this season — Manuel Pellegrini deserves great credit for winning two trophies in his first season and Brendan Rodgers did a fantastic job at Liverpool. But to take Palace from 19th in the table with just seven points to 44 points and a comfortable finish was a minor miracle from Pulis.

Bleacher Report's Premier League Team of the Season

The trophy has been handed out; the contenders have considered just how close they came.

The major associations—the Professional Footballers’ (PFA) and Football Writers’ (FWA)—have distributed their honours, and now it’s time for Bleacher Report to get in on the act.

Following is our Premier League Team of the Season.

Not surprisingly, the starting XI is entirely made up of players from the English top-flight’s best five finishers, although there’s some broader representation among the seven names we’ve assigned to the bench.

We’ve even selected a manager to look after our squad.

The following slideshow will reveal who we’ve chosen.

Goalkeeper: Tim Howard, Everton


From March 15 to April 12—a stretch of six matches—Tim Howard didn’t lose a match. He allowed just four goals, and over the course of the season only David Marshall and Vito Mannone made more saves.

Yet Howard’s Everton pressed Arsenal for a Champions League position until the last couple of weeks and wound up an impressive fifth on the final day.

Right-Back: Seamus Coleman, Everton


The best right-back in English football is Irish—originally trained as a Gaelic footballer. But Seamus Coleman took the Premier League by storm in 2013-14, missing only two matches, scoring six goals and completing 88 per cent of his passes.

A useful outlet going forward, he nevertheless prioritised his defensive responsibilities and made an impressive 47 interceptions over the course of the season.

Central Defender: Per Mertesacker, Arsenal


Per Mertesacker might have played his best season of club football at the age of 29. The Germany international turned out 35 times in the Premier League for Arsenal in 2013-14 and made an eye-popping 251 clearances.

He also tended to play a good first ball out of the defense and completed an astounding 93 per cent of his passes. He was generally dominant in the air as the Gunners conceded just 41 goals during the campaign.

Central Defender: John Terry, Chelsea


All it took to revitalise John Terry was the return of Jose Mourinho.

The reunification of the 33-year-old defender and erstwhile Chelsea manager saw Terry turn back the clock at Stamford Bridge, turning out 34 times in the Premier League and helping the Blues to the best defensive record in the division. He also completed 90 per cent of his passes and made 228 clearances in 2013-14.

Left-Back: Leighton Baines, Everton


Leighton Baines is England’s first-choice left-back; Luke Shaw is the second option, and Ashley Cole has retired from international football. How times change. At 29 years of age it seems Baines’ time has come, and through much of the 2013-14 season the Everton man was the best left-back in the Premier League.

Going forward he scored five goals and assisted on four others, but he averaged just over an interception per match on the defensive side of the ball.

Midfielder: Steven Gerrard, Liverpool


At 33, Steven Gerrard led the Premier League in assists and came within a whisker of winning his first Premier League title.

While his slip against Chelsea may be what his detractors remember, everyone else will fondly recall the goals he scored, chances he created and commitment he showed on the defensive side of the ball as the Reds finished second in the standings.

Midfielder: Yaya Toure, Manchester City


Yaya Toure’s season was one for the ages. No player was as vital to Manchester City regaining the title as the Ivory Coast international; no midfielder came close to the level the 30-year-old operated at over the course of the campaign.

In 35 matches Yaya scored 20 goals, picked up nine assists, completed 90 per cent of his passes and executed 24 interceptions.

Midfielder: Jordan Henderson, Liverpool


Who would have thought there would come a day when Jordan Henderson would seem a bargain at the £16 million Liverpool paid Sunderland for his services back in 2011?

Well, that day has come, as in the 35 matches he played in 2013-14 the 23-year-old showed himself to be among the best midfielders in the land.

He scored four goals, assisted on seven others, completed 87 per cent of his passes and contributed 87 clearances. No doubt he’ll be key to England’s chances at the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.

Forward: Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool


Only Luis Suarez scored more Premier League goals than Daniel Sturridge in 2013-14, and the two of them, along with teammate Raheem Sterling, combined to form the most lethal forward line of the campaign.

Sturridge, who carried the load in the early going while Suarez was serving out his suspension for biting Branislav Ivanovic, opened the schedule with goals in his first four Premier League matches and eight in his first nine.

Forward: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City


Sergio Aguero missed 15 matches through injury in 2013-14, but he nevertheless finished joint-fourth on the Premier League goal-scoring chart and found the back of the net in every match he played between December 4 and January 29.

Over that 10-game stretch he scored 14 goals in all competitions, including five in five Premier League outings, as Manchester City got back into the title race.

Forward: Luis Suarez, Liverpool


He won both the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards, so it’s appropriate that Luis Suarez makes our Premier League Team of the Season as well.

Despite missing the first five matches of the campaign through suspension, the Uruguay international went on to lead the English top flight in scoring with 31 goals—10 more than runner-up and teammate Daniel Sturridge. He also created an incredible 87 goalscoring opportunities and picked up 12 assists.

With seven games of a remarkable Premier League season remaining, Leicester have a five-point lead at the top, Tottenham are their nearest rivals and there's a chance that none of Manchester City, Chelsea or Manchester United will qualify for next season's Champions League.

It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that the team of the campaign so far - based on EA Sports' Player Performance Index - has an equally unusual feel.

Here, Sportsmail presents the top-performing Premier League team of the season to date.

GOALKEEPER

Kasper Schmeichel, Leicester City (PPI score: 388)

It's been a stunning season for Leicester and their imposing goalkeeper has been a big reason for that.

Schmeichel has kept 12 league clean sheets, including eight since the turn of the year, as the Foxes have risen to the top of the Premier League.

All that remains to be seen now is whether or not the 29-year-old can emulate the achievements of his dad, Peter, and claim an English league title winner's medal.

Schmeichel's efforts domestically were rewarded earlier this week when he was named Denmark's player of the year, in front of Tottenham's Christian Eriksen.

RIGHT BACK

Hector Bellerin, Arsenal (PPI score: 411)

In a season of worrying inconsistency from Arsenal, Bellerin has been a shining light at the back.

The Spaniard can feel aggrieved not to have been included in Vicente del Bosque's international squad for upcoming friendlies against Italy and Romania, after his bombarding runs down the flank played a major role in the Gunners' fine start to the season.

While Arsene Wenger's team have tailed away since Christmas, Bellerin has kept up his performance levels, hence his inclusion in the team of the term so far.

CENTRE BACK

Toby Alderweireld, Tottenham Hotspur (PPI score: 501)

Spurs' title challenge has benefited from the fine form of the Belgian defender and impressive partnerships with both Jan Verthongen and Kevin Wimmer.

Alderweireld has played a part in 11 Premier League clean sheets and has pitched in with three goals as well, including one in the north London derby draw.

CENTRE BACK

Wes Morgan, Leicester City (PPI score: 426)

No one would have predicted the sort of season the veteran was going to have when the Premier League kicked off in August.

A non-nonsense, old school centre half, Morgan has not given opposing strikers an inch throughout the campaign and his partnership with Robert Huth has been integral in the Foxes' unbelievable year.

LEFT BACK

Charlie Daniels, Bournemouth (PPI score: 430)

Having risen through the divisions with the Cherries, Daniels has proven himself worthy of a regular starting spot in the top flight.

The full back must harbour hopes of international recognition with England in the coming months after becoming Mr Reliable for the south coast club.

RIGHT WING

Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City (PPI score: 838)

The Algerian has become a regular member of the PPI Team of the Week,and his presence in the Team of the Year was inevitable.

With 16 goals and 11 assists, the tricky winger ranks as one of the best value-for-money buys of this century after arriving from Le Havre for a miserly £500,000.

CENTRE MIDFIELD

Christian Eriksen, Tottenham Hotspur (PPI score: 631)

Eriksen has been the creative force in the middle of Tottenham's midfield, contributing six goals and eight assists to their title challenge.

The 24-year-old has also proven himself to be one of the best free-kick takers in the division.

CENTRE MIDFIELD

Ross Barkley, Everton (PPI score: 573)

Everton's problems this season have come at the back and certainly not up front, where Barkley has been a major part of a prolific attacking unit.

The 22-year-old has eight goals and seven assists to his name so far this term and goes into the European Championship this summer in excellent form, much to the delight of England fans everywhere.

LEFT WING

Mesut Ozil, Arsenal (PPI score: 625)

The German's form in the first half of the season was so devastating that he seemed to be at least partially responsible for every goal Arsenal scored.

Both he and the Gunners have fallen away a little since the turn of the year but Ozil still has an astonishing 18 assists for the campaign, to go with five goals.

STRIKER

Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur (PPI score: 892)

Kane has become the first Englishman since 1996 to manage 20 or more goals in consecutive Premier League seasons, and he's fired Tottenham towards the Champions League in the process.

Lethal from 20 yards and closer, the striker has chipped in with spectacular finishes and simple tap-ins to maintain his team's title charge. With 21 league goals from 101 shots, his strike rate is pretty impressive, too.

STRIKER

Jamie Vardy, Leicester City (PPI score: 792)

Not that long ago, Vardy was playing non-League football with Fleetwood and Halifax. Now he's scoring for fun with a Leicester team bound for the Champions League and the unlikeliest of title triumphs.

The 29-year-old has 19 goals from 79 shots - the pick of them a stunning volley from 35 yards against Liverpool - and he's also pitched in with six assists.

Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante have all been recognised for their role in Leicester's Barclays Premier League title charge by being named on the shortlist for the PFA Players' Player of the Year.

The Foxes trio make up half of the six-man shortlist for the award, which is voted for by their peers, with Tottenham's 22-goal striker Harry Kane, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil and West Ham's Dimitri Payet the other names in the frame to succeed 2015 winner Eden Hazard.

Kane is also in contention to retain the Young Player of the Year gong he won 12 months ago and he features on a six-player shortlist alongside Spurs team-mate Dele Alli, Everton duo Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, Stoke's Jack Butland and Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho.

The winners for each category will be announced on Sunday, April 24 at London's Grosvenor Hotel and the strong Leicester presence on the shortlist for the men's award is a reflection of the league leaders' improbable season, which has already seen them secure Champions League qualification and could yet culminate in a championship title.

Vardy is one goal behind England colleague Kane in the race for the division's golden boot while Mahrez has chipped in with 16 goals and 11 assists and recent France cap Kante's role in defensive midfield has earned widespread praise.

Like Kante, Payet has enjoyed a fine first campaign after coming across the Channel last summer while 27-year-old German international Ozil has contributed a league-leading 18 assists for the Gunners this term.

Eight times in the previous 11 seasons the Players' Player of the Year has played for Chelsea, Manchester United or Liverpool yet, just one year from those clubs having four players on the half-a-dozen strong shortlist, there are no representatives from any of those clubs.

Reds forward Coutinho was up for the main award last year and he could yet win the Young Player of the Year award, a title which 20-year-old Alli will hope to earn just one year after he was named the Football League's Young Player of the Year.

PFA chief executive, Gordon Taylor OBE said of this year's ceremony: 'The PFA awards is always a special occasion and one of the biggest nights in football’s social calendar.

'For the winners who are honoured at the awards, there can be no greater personal accolade than that of being recognised by your peers; an honour to be cherished.'

HOW THE VOTING WORKS FOR THE PFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

- Appointed PFA delegates deliver the ballot forms to the training ground of the 92 league clubs and 8 WSL clubs.

- Members are not allowed to vote for a player that is at the same club as themselves.

- The cut-off age for the PFA Young Player of the Year award is 23 years old or under as at the beginning of the season (1st July 2015).

- The PFA use an independent company to count and verify the votes cast, and completed ballots are sent directly to Beever & Struthers Chartered Accountants.

- The winners for each category will be announced at the PFA Awards on the 24th April 2016 in London.

Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho and Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland complete the six-man shortlist.

Tottenham's No 10 has plundered in 22 league goals as they sit second in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence under Mauricio Pochettino - scoring eight goals from midfield.

Barkley is the third England international named among the nominees.

The 22-year-old has provided eight goals and assists for Everton despite their indifferent season.

The Toffees' No 20 is joined by team-mate Lukaku - who has spearheaded their attack all season.

The powerful forward has netted 18 goals for the Goodison Park outfit in 32 league matches.

Across Merseyside, Everton's bitter rivals Liverpool have a nominee too in Coutinho.

The Brazilian is enjoying another wonderful season at Anfield chipping in with seven goals and six assists.

Stoke goalkeeper Butland is the final entry on the six-man list - having kept 10 clean sheets for Mark Hughes' side before his season-ending injury while on England duty last month.

The 23-year-old took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to reveal his pride in the nomination.

'Massive honour to be voted for by fellow players, might have to steal it if I want to it, very high standard,' he wrote.

Meanwhile three Leicester players have been nominated by their peers for the senior Player of the Year award, after helping their team to the brink of the most unlikely Premier League title win in a generation.

Jamie Vardy, N'Golo Kante, and Riyad Mahrez are on the Professional Footballers' Association shortlist, alongside Kane, West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet and Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard won the award in 2015.

- The cut-off age for the PFA Young Player of the Year award is 23 years old or under as at the beginning of the season (1st July 2015).

- The PFA use an independent company to count and verify the votes cast, and completed ballots are sent directly to Beever & Struthers Chartered Accountants.

- The winners for each category will be announced at the PFA Awards on the 24th April 2016 in London.

Manchester United fans fume as Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho beats Anthony Martial to PFA Young Player nomination




Manchester United fans have reacted angrily to the omission of French forward Anthony Martial from the PFA Young Player of the Year award at the expense of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

The nominees for both the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year were announced today, with players from league leaders Leicester City dominating the shortlists.

Despite scoring eight league goals since his summer move from Monaco, 20-year-old Martial missed out on both awards.

By comparison Liverpool’s Coutinho has netted just seven times in 21 appearances.

PFA Team of the Year 2016 snub for Arsenal star Mesut Ozil as Leicester City and Tottenham dominate with four players each

* The 27-year-old has provided 18 assists and six goals this season so far

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been omitted from the PFA Team of the Year, it has been confirmed.

The PFA tweeted their XI on Thursday afternoon with Ozil's name left out at the expense of Dimitri Payet, N'Golo Kante, Dele Alli and Riyad Mahrez in the four-man midfield.

Ozil's exclusion is a surprising one with the Germany international among the six nominees for this year's PFA Player of the Year Award.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed another impressive campaign in north London and tops the Premier League assists charts with 18 - six more than nearest rivals Mahrez and Christian Eriksen.

Arsenal's No 11 has also scored six goals to help his side to third in the table.

Speaking about Ozil on April 15, Arsene Wenger praised his player to the extent that he believed he should win the PFA Player of the Year prize.

'He has been more efficient. He created more chances and has scored, especially, more goals,' the Gunners boss said.

'And I believe, in a guy like Ozil, you see 10 to 15 goals. I hope he does that before the end of the season.

'That's always what you think he should get. He's miles ahead on assists and provides the chances. The two combined, assists and goals, mean he deserves this award.'

Ozil is competing against West Ham midfielder Payet, Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Leicester trio Kante, Mahrez and Jamie Vardy - with the latter quintuplet all earning a spot in the PFA XI.

Kane's Tottenham team-mate Dele Alli has been named ahead of Ozil in the four-man midfield as Spurs and Leicester make up the majority of the PFA XI with eight of the notional 11 coming from the two teams.

Leicester captain Wes Morgan is the fourth player from Claudio Ranieri's side while Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose join Tottenham duo Kane and Alli.

Aside from Payet, the other non-Leicester and Tottenham players included are Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea and Arsenal full back Hector Bellerin.

The team was due to be announced as standard at the PFA awards on Sunday, but the unveiling was brought forward with the line-up leaked on Twitter.
