Fletcher to make Utd return
But Rooney faces late decision



Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Darren Fletcher will start Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow.

However, Ferguson will make a late decision on Wayne Rooney's participation after his wife gave birth.

Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Park Ji-sung and Ryan Giggs are all still ruled out for the game at Old Trafford after missing the weekend win over Blackburn, while Dimitar Berbatov is doubtful after missing training on Monday.

Fletcher was an unused substitute in the victory over Blackburn, but he will return to the starting line-up as Ferguson looks to get the Scot some match action under his belt ahead of this weekend's visit to Chelsea.

"Darren was a substitute on Saturday and will play on Tuesday," said Ferguson.

"I think most people recognise Fletcher as a big game player. We've been aware of that for quite a while. Now there's an acceptance among most people that he's a very important player for us.

"He has been missed in some key games recently so it will be good to have him back."

Ferguson confirmed Rooney missed training on Monday after his pregnant wife was taken into hospital and he is waiting to see if the England star will be available to face the Russians.

Victory over the Russians will secure United's place in the knock-out stages...

Form guide: The Reds are aiming for a fourth straight Champions League victory and a double over CSKA following last month's 1-0 win in Moscow courtesy of Antonio Valencia's late strike. The Russian club have changed managers since the last meeting with Leonid Slutsky taking over from Juande Ramos. The new boss has already enjoyed some success - his first match in charge, on Friday, resulted in a win over FC Terek Grozny. The 1-0 triumph was CSKA's first victory in four matches in all competitions.

Manager: A former goalkeeper, Slutsky began his coaching career at Olimpia Volgograd. After a successful stint with Uralan Elista, he took charge of FC Moscow's reserves in 2004 and became head coach the following summer. He then spent almost two years as Krylia Sovetov manager before signing a three-year contract with CSKA last week.

Ins and outs: The Reds will be without Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Ji-sung Park and Ryan Giggs, while Dimitar Berbatov is a doubt. It's unclear if Wayne Rooney will be involved following the birth of his first child on Monday. Gary Neville is available as his three-game suspension only affects domestic fixtures, while Darren Fletcher is back after recovering from a foot injury. CSKA will be without midfielders Sekou Oliseh (hip) and Mark Gonzalez (ankle), while Brazilian striker Guilherme is a doubt.

Star man: Milos Krasic. The Serbian attacking midfielder impressed during last month's meeting between the two sides and went close with a long-range effort in the first half. He looked full of running and endeavour throughout the game.

Referee: Olegario Benquerenca (Portugal). Benquerenca's first taste of Champions League group stage action came in September 2005. He has officated 13 games in total, including United's 3-0 win in Aalborg last season.

Rivals watch: Tuesday - Atletico Madrid v Chelsea, AC Milan v Real Madrid. Wednesday - Lyon v Liverpool, Arsenal v Alkmaar, Rubin Kazan v Barcelona.

Owen dreams of Real return



He spent 12 months at the Bernabeu earlier in his career and Michael Owen hopes to be back there again next May, this time with the Reds.

Last season's Champions League runners-up can seal qualification for the knock-out stages with a win over CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

With doubts over the availability of Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov, Owen is likely to start against the Russians. Having never won the competition, the 29-year-old is relishing the opportunity to play his part in the Reds' quest for Champions League glory and is desperate to help his team-mates book a third consecutive final spot in Madrid next May.

"It’s everybody’s dream [to win the Champions League] and coming to a club like Manchester United you’re always competing at the top level," he told reporters at United's pre-match press conference.

"That's one of the things you look at when you’re first asked to join the club. It’s one of the big things that stuck in my mind – playing in big European games and top League games is everybody’s dream.

"It’s very difficult to win these competitions but it’s our aim to do that and it’s exciting to be part of it."

Four months into his United career, Owen says he feels completely at home at Old Trafford and is pleased with his progress to date.

"I've loved every minute of it. It’s been everything I expected... and more," he insists. "Everybody has been so welcoming, right from the coaching staff, the canteen ladies and the kit man, not to mention the lads and the fans. I’m really pleased that the fans seem to have taken to me and sang my name. I feel like I’ve been here many years even though it’s only been a few months."

Despite constant fears in the media over Owen's ability to remain fit, the Reds' no.7 pointed out that he's only been unavailable once this season. That's a better injury record than the likes of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs.

"United has a great structure behind the scenes," he explained. "The amount of staff that look after the players is incredible. If you want to do anything, be it weight sessions or yoga, it’s all catered for. You can go into any room and there’s a member of staff there ready to give you a programme that’s specific to you.

"I’ve always done extra bits and the type of player I’ve been – a quick player – means you’re always prone to muscle niggles. So I'll continue to do work off the pitch that hopefully limits the danger [of picking up injuries].

"Also, as you get older you learn more about your body. In the last Champions League game at home [against Wolfsburg] I came off before it was too late. If I’d carried on I might have done another sprint and pulled my groin and been out for a month."

Manchester - Manchester United ingin lebih cepat lolos ke babak 16 besar. Lebih cepat lolos akan lebih baik bagi MU karena dengan begitu mereka bisa sedikit menghemat tenaga. Guna memenuhi keinginan itu, halangan bernama CSKA Moskow harus dilalui.

MU merupakan salah satu dari enam tim yang berpeluang lolos ke fase knock out. Dengan rekor sempurna yakni sembilan poin dari tiga laga, Wayne Rooney dkk. bakal mengamankan tiket 16 besar bila tidak kalah di matchday keempat.

MU akan menghadapi CSKA Moskow di Old Trafford, Rabu (4/11/2009) dinihari WIB, lawan yang sudah ditaklukkan Setan Merah dengan skor 1-0 di matchday sebelumnya.

"Jika kami menang maka kami akan jadi juara grup. Ini keuntungan karena kami bisa lolos lebih cepat," demikian tukas Sir Alex seperti dikutip dari AFP.

Bagi MU lebih cepat lolos ke-16 besar Liga Champions tentu saja merupakan hal yang lebih baik. Pasalnya mereka bisa mengatur tenaga untuk menghadapi jadwal kompetisi yang semakin padat.

"Bila kami sukses mendapat tiga poin, maka itu bakal memberikan saya banyak pilihan strategi dan susunan tim di dua laga Liga Champions selanjutnya."

"Pemain muda tentu akan mendapat kesempatan. Namun yang utama kami harus mengatasi CSKA," seru Ferguson.

Upaya MU untuk menggeber kemenangan juga didukung dengan faktor tuan rumah. Namun meski bakal tampil di hadapan pendukung sendiri di Old Trafford, namun Sir Alex tak ingin anak buahnya lengah.

Bisa jadi manajer asal Skotlandia itu berkaca pada beratnya perjuangan MU mengatasi CSKA di pertemuan sebelumnya. Ketika itu The Red Devils harus menunggu hingga menit ke-86 untuk memastikan kemenangan.

"CSKA dituntut untuk menang di pertandingan sisa guna menjaga peluang di Liga Champions. Jadi laga nanti akan berlangsung sulit. Yang jelas kami akan langsung menekan mereka, seperti yang selalu kami tunjukkan saat tampil di Old Trafford," pungkasnya.
