Re: United U18 Matches
Reds up and running in Dallas
Report by Tom Clare Quote:
Manchester United's bid to win the Dallas Cup - a prestigious tournament for Under-19 teams - began in earnest on Sunday evening in Texas, courtesy of a second-half brace from substitute James Wilson. The young striker netted in the 65th minute and again in injury time, by which time the Reds' opponents Club America had been harshly reduced to ten men. United were earlier grateful to goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini for preserving parity at 0-0 with a brilliant penalty save on the brink of half-time. The venue for this victory was the vast Cotton Bowl Stadium, set against the imposing backdrop of the downtown Dallas skyline. And although the sparse crowd of no more than 5,000 was scattered around the 92,100-capacity arena, United fans from the local ‘Dallas Reds’ group were vociferous throughout as their team turned in an impressive and spirited performance. Warren Joyce’s side dominated the game from the opening minutes and posed problems to Club America with some slick interplay, crisp passing and good movement off the ball. With Charni Ekangamene, James Weir, Mats Daehli and Ben Pearson bossing the midfield, their link-up play with Adnan Januzaj and Jack Barmby was a joy to watch. The Reds carved open the Mexican defence several times in the first half and but for some profligate finishing would have gone into the interval with a good lead. Pearson broke down the right-hand side and after taking the ball close to the by-line, cut back a perfect centre which Januzaj headed wide of the goal. Terrific work down United’s left wing between Luke Hendrie, Pearson and Daehli later put Barmby in behind the Mexican defence, only for the striker to shoot tamely at the goalkeeper. The Reds were quick into the tackle, but sometimes too quick for the referee’s liking with Ekangamene receiving a yellow card for what looked like a legitimate challenge. Pearson was also booked in similar circumstances but Hendrie’s caution, for a foul on Club America striker Jonathan Sanchez, looked more like a correct decision. Club America offered very little going forward until the latter stages of the first period when a cross caused a problem for Gollini and James Weir conceded a corner with a wild clearance. United defended the resulting setpiece successfully, but almost paid the price for not turning dominance into goals just before half-time. A harmless through ball was played into the Reds' penalty area and after Pearson and Mexican midfielder Solace came together, the referee inexplicably pointed to the penalty spot. Up stepped Sanchez to hammer the ball to Gollini’s right but the United custodian made a brilliant save, diving low and pushing the ball to safety. The Reds made two changes at half-time, bringing on Liam Grimshaw for Ekangamene and Jack Rudge for Hendrie, and shortly afterwards Wilson was introduced as a replacement for Barmby. United started the second half as they had the first, dominating possession and pushing the Mexicans back, but were perhaps over elaborate with the final pass. However, the breakthrough came in the 61st minute when a quick through ball down the right-hand side found Wilson who had timed his run perfectly. At first it looked as though he had taken one touch too many as he entered the area but before the ball could run away, he was able to push it past the advancing goalkeeper. The Mexicans seemed to lose their composure a little after going behind and had a man sent off for a second yellow-card offence in the 66th minute. The Reds had a lucky escape though after giving away a free-kick just outside the box. Club America midfielder Esquival thumped a tremendous effort against the bar and United breathed a sigh of relief. The game became a little feisty with several niggly fouls, but the young Reds remained composed as they soaked up pressure from the Mexicans and relied on quick counter-attacking moves, a tactic which paid off in the final minute of the game. The ball was played out of defence quickly and Wilson roared away from the halfway line to draw the goalkeeper and slide the ball into the net. Game, set and match to United at 2-0. There will be little respite for the young Reds and little time to savour the joy of victory as the second game follows tomorrow (Monday, 21:00 UK time) against Dallas Texans at the University of Texas’ Dallas campus. The local team lost their opening match in Bracket A, 1-0 to Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol. United: Gollini; Hendrie (Rudge), Fornasier, Blackett, James; Weir, Ekangamene (Grimshaw), Pearson, Daehli; Januzaj; Barmby (Wilson). |

Re: United U18 Matches
Januzaj kelihatan cungkring, klo dari jauh tampak seperti Fletcher lari. Gaya maennya bener2 bukan winger tapi lebih ke AM dan sering njemput bola ke bek.

Re: United U18 Matches
Two-goal Januzaj torments Texans
Quote:
Manchester United made it two wins out of two in the Dallas Cup with a 3-1 triumph over local favourites Dallas Texans. Despite falling behind, Warren Joyce's youngsters hit back through Gyliano van Velzen and a second-half brace by Adnan Januzaj. manutd.com - The Reds looked the better side despite testing conditions in the wind and the busy Josh Harrop had an early penalty shout waved away after good approach work by van Velzen and James Weir. Another neat move involving Reece James and van Velzen then led to Harrop firing wide when he perhaps should have hit the target. So the 20th-minute opener came very much against the run of play when a free-kick on the right was bundled home, with Adrian White possibly getting the final touch, to cue wild celebrations from the Texans. United stepped up a gear but Mats Daehli could only hit the near post after being found by a delightful Adnan Januzaj pass. Moments later, a free-kick on the right from Januzaj appeared to strike van Velzen on its way into the net. It was no more than Joyce’s side deserved and van Velzen lashed over the bar on the turn after more eye-catching play by confident left-back James. The Dutch forward was then guilty of a weak finish after strong play in the build-up and he forced a save at the near post as the pressure started to build leading up to half time. On the negative front, Januzaj was booked for simulation inside the box and a free header could have resulted in another Dallas goal from a set-piece but the Reds ended the half in the ascendancy as James’ low cross almost led to an own goal. Despite the introduction of Sunday night's two-goal hero James Wilson, the Reds initially struggled to make the breakthrough after the interval. However, one burst by the substitute striker saw Januzaj have a shot deflected. Michele Fornasier recovered from a serious-looking knock to continue to lead the team and Wilson had a long-range shot saved as he looked to cause problems. But it was another substitute, Jack Barmby, whose run led to United's second goal as he laid the ball into the path of Januzaj, under pressure, and the Belgian finished smartly. Seconds later, everybody expected a goal when Wilson met a Daehli cross after some magical wing-play by the Norwegian but the ball flew just wide. It was soon 3-1, however, with Wilson unceremoniously up-ended inside the area and Januzaj casually converted the penalty with seven minutes remaining. Tyler Blackett’s late free-kick deflected wide and Barmby was unlucky not to score after a positive run but this was another excellent win for the Reds. Joyce’s side face Kashiwa Reysol in the final Gordon Jago Super Group fixture on Wednesday and the team looks fit and raring to go. United: Sutherland; Hendrie (Grimshaw 46), Fornasier, Blackett, James (Ioannou 77); Weir (Wilson 46), Harrop (Rothwell 46), Ekangamene, Januzaj, Daehli; van Velzen (Barmby 60). |
