Seiring dengan terus meningkatnya penampilan dan permainannya di United, tampaknya sudah waktunya bagi Mason Greenwood memiliki thread khusus di Forum UI ini. Postingan pertama adalah tentang profile Greenwood dalam website resmi United

MASON GREENWOOD

BIOGRAPHY

An exciting striker who was top scorer in the Under-18 Premier League North in 2017/18, while still a schoolboy and being eligible for Under-16 level.

The enterprising forward is equally adept with both feet and capable of creating chances out of nothing. Evolving from a no.10 to more of a centre-forward, he looked the part as the cutting edge of an exciting team.

He finished the season with 17 goals from 17 starts, plus a further four outings as a substitute, and was awarded Player of the Tournament when the Reds won the ICGT trophy in the Netherlands, despite being the youngest member of the squad.

A call-up for the senior squad's Tour 2018, presented by Aon, in the United States showed the high regard in which he is held as he enjoyed playing and working under Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff, including his former Under-18s boss Kieran McKenna.

An England Under-18 international who is extremely well thought of, it will be interesting to see if he can maintain his impressive level of progress in 2018/19.

After a goal-filled start to the campaign for the Under-18s, and the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League, it was announced on 2 October that Mason has signed his first professional contract with the club.

GREENWOOD CAN BE PROUD OF FULL SENIOR DEBUT

Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood was the bright spot in the season-ending 2-0 home defeat to Cardiff City.

The 17-year-old became the club's youngest starter in the Premier League era when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed him his full debut against the Bluebirds.

It was only the second time he began any game at Old Trafford, the other was with the Under-23s, against West Brom last month, and yet he took to the big stage instantly, even if he will feel he should have scored his maiden goal at senior level.

Starting wide in a fluid attacking front three with fellow homegrown products Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, the England Under-18 international was unable to convert two early aerial chances and later had a deflected shot tipped onto a post by Neil Etheridge. He also hit the side-netting with his left foot from a Rashford pass.

Before the match was out, Greenwood took his tally to seven shots, four of which were on target, and was inches away from converting a late chance in the middle after darting into the danger zone.

He made 21 sprints, more than anybody else, although it was only one in front of Rashford's total.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Ole said: “Mason was absolutely brilliant, got the crowd going, and got the players going, but that’s a 17-year-old making his full debut and he’s the bright light.

”He settled in very early and was just a bit unfortunate that he didn’t get his goal, because his performance deserved it.“

Team-mate Lingard added to MUTV: “He was brilliant. He enjoyed the occasion and gave us that energy. He was getting on the ball and was getting shots off - that’s the confidence of the kid. He wasn’t scared of the occasion, he wasn’t scared of playing in front of 75,000 people.

”He took it on himself to take the game to them and he was brilliant. Obviously, he has people around him to help and that’s our job. Manchester United has always brought youth through and have always had those experienced players as well. If we can combine that next season, I’m sure we’ll do well.

“He’s quite laid back, but when you get to know him he comes out of his shell a bit more. When he got on the ball in the first few minutes, his confidence was up. There’s plenty more to come from Mason and the other young players here.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits teenager Mason Greenwood has played himself into contention to START Manchester United's Premier League opener against Chelsea after first senior strike against Leeds

* Mason Greenwood has grabbed his first senior goal for Manchester United
* The teenager was on target during the club's friendly against Leeds in Australia
* Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he could start on opening day

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Mason Greenwood has played himself into contention for Manchester United’s opening Premier League game against Chelsea after scoring his first senior goal for the club.

Greenwood, 17, fired United in front in a 4-0 win over Leeds at the Optus Stadium in Perth, pouncing after seven minutes to convert Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross.

And although Solskjaer has admitted that United will look to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku if the Belgium striker is sold to Inter Milan, Greenwood is now a serious contender for a first-team spot.

‘He’s got a chance to start that one (against Chelsea) definitely,’ said Solskjaer. ‘He’s capable, more than capable. He’ll always be there in and around the box creating chances. I won’t say that that’s not a possibility. It’s a good possibility if he keeps going as he does. It’s difficult to keep players out if they keep playing well.

’Of course we’re delighted with the goal he scored. It’s important for strikers to get that goal, even though we’ve always said and know he’s capable of scoring goals. But that first goal is going to be maybe a weight off his shoulders.

‘His movement, cleverness, he’s going to be a very good player the young boy. He can play all the front three positions, front four really – 10, 7, 11, 9 – he’s a natural footballer. He’s got two feet but with his left coming in from the right. He can play anywhere along the front line.

‘He’s a natural. You know when he takes a penalty with his left, with his right, free-kicks left, free-kicks right, he is almost what you call 50-50. Maybe 51-49 (per cent ) left footed.

Mason Greenwood grabbed his first senior goal for Manchester United on their pre-season trip. The teenager found the back of the net against Leeds at the Optus Stadium in a 4-0 victory. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has says Greenwood is playing his way into his starting XI

‘You see a talented boy there and he’s got every opportunity to make it as a Man United player. Of course it’s also going to be about luck, staying clear of injuries, being professional and I’m sure he’s going to grab his chance because everything is there for him.’

Solskjaer is frustrated that Lukaku has been unable to play in either of the two opening games against Perth Glory and Leeds after picking up minor injuries in training that coincide with speculation linking him with a move to Inter.

‘Of course it’s not ideal when you miss training sessions,’ added the United boss. ‘He missed towards the end of the training session yesterday and he missed the game again today so he’s missed two chances to play 45 minutes. At this stage of the season it’s important for us we get everyone fit so hopefully he’ll be available soon.’

Marcus Rashford scored United’s second against Leeds with an excellent effort to underline the potential in United’s young forwards before Solskjaer made 11 changes at half-time. Phil Jones headed the third and Anthony Martial converted the fourth from the penalty spot.

‘It’s the same with Marcus (as Greenwood), he can play across the front line,’ said Solskjaer. ‘Sometimes he likes to drift to the left. The same with Anthony, both of them can play 9 and 11 and also together as a 9 and a 10 and maybe sometimes on the right hand side.

‘For me it’s great to have forwards who can rotate and see. I don’t think we should nail them down to one position because they’re good players and can see space.’

Mason Greenwood is the 17-year-old all Man United fans are talking about... Rashford described his ability as 'frightening' and Solskjaer might start him against Chelsea - So who is he?

* Mason Greenwood scored for Manchester United against Leeds and Inter Milan
* He is being tipped for a breakout season and has long been destined for big time
* The 17-year-old is deadly off both feet and had incredible youth scoring record
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he is pushing for a start against Chelsea on August 11

There have been whispers for some time that Mason Greenwood will be the next big star to emerge from Manchester United's academy.

His first goal for the senior side against Leeds on Thursday was a breakthrough moment and Marcus Rashford is in awe of his understudy's 'frightening natural abilities'.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even revealed the 17-year-old has a great chance of starting the Premier League opener against Chelsea on August 11.

Here, Sportsmail takes a closer look at Greenwood's route to the top and what he can bring to United this season.

Mason Greenwood scored his first goal for the Manchester United first team on Thursday

Was he always destined for stardom?

Manchester United have a long held policy for their young stars to shun the limelight, avoid hype at all costs and players under 18 are not allowed to speak to the media, not even MUTV.

But those at the club have known for some time the kind of once in a generation prospect they've got on their hands. Greenwood's path has been compared to that of Marcus Rashford, but his statistics are even better than the England international's were in the academy.

Between the Under 18s and Under 23s his record was 46 goals in 43 games with 13 assists, an astonishing output, particularly as he was frequently the youngest player on the pitch.

Greenwood has always excelled in the academy and played in higher age groups from the start

Jose Mourinho liked what he saw too, taking Greenwood on the pre-season tour of the United States last season.

Despite the will of the club to temper expectations, the teenager has no issue tweeting out his highlights to 56,000 Twitter followers and after Solskjaer's effusive praise, the cat is well and truly out of the bag.

Born in Bradford and raised in Wibsey to the southwest of the city, he comes from a sport-obsessed family and it seems searing pace is a familial trait. His sister Ashton can run a 12.7 second 100 metres and has an athletics scholarship to Manchester Met.

That raw speed was one of the reasons Greenwood was moved from the No 10 role to an out-and-out striker in United's academy.

The productivity became impossible to ignore and last season Solskjaer gave him his big break.

Greenwood became the youngest player in United history to play in the Champions League at 17 years, five months and five days. He came off the bench in the famous victory over PSG in Paris that put United through to the quarter-final.

He was in the thick of the celebrations with Romelu Lukaku, David De Gea and his heroes at the Le Parc des Princes. The next day he was back in school.

What's his style of play?

Rashford called him a 'natural finisher', and that certainly seems to be true. But there's no way Greenwood could be pigeonholed as a poacher.

Perhaps his education in the No 10 role helped him evolve into a more versatile player but the youngster is just as likely to weave his way around two defenders and find the bottom corner, as he is to time a run into the six yard box.

He loves to commit opponents and frequently knocks the ball past a challenger before using his acceleration to glide past them, a trait he may have to rein in against wily Premier League pros.

Greenwood's major point of difference is the ability to use both feet without even the slightest drop in quality.

Former United stalwart Clayton Blackmore told the Manchester Evening News: 'He's great on the ball and very good with both feet. He's the first person I've seen that takes penalties and free-kicks with his wrong foot. I've never come across anyone like that!'

At 5ft 11in, Greenwood is by no means a powerhouse and is still growing into his body. There's plenty of room for him to fill out and add a robustness required at the top of the English game.

The 17-year-old has pace to burn and loves to take defenders on when the chance arises. Solskjaer knows he has a gem on his hands and will give the striker game time this season

How valuable will be be to United this season?

Solskjaer is so bullish about the 17-year-old's chances that he's already said Greenwood will score goals for the first team.

If the club can secure the £75million they want from Inter Milan for Romelu Lukaku, his minutes will inevitably increase, particularly with Europa League football on the agenda.

Maybe Europa League action will turn out to be a conservative estimate as Solskjaer said Greenwood could start in the huge Premier League opener against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

'He's got a chance to start that one [against Chelsea] definitely,' admitted the Norwegian.

'He's capable, more than capable. He'll always be there in and around the box creating chances. I won't say that that's not a possibility. It's a good possibility if he keeps going as he does. It's difficult to keep players out if they keep playing well.'

Greenwood was 'the best player on the pitch' against Cardiff last season, said Solskjaer. Greenwood ghosted in to slot home for United against Leeds in their pre-season clash

Rashford is undoubtedly the incumbent No 9 and Solskjaer's trusted central striker but any injury could see Greenwood thrust into the fold, especially as Anthony Martial can blow hot and cold.

Last season Solskjaer handed his promising young forward a start on the last day of the season against Cardiff. The game ended in a pitiful 2-0 home defeat but Greenwood was the one shining light for his manager.

'Mason Greenwood was brilliant, he was our best player by a mile and that says a lot about the kid,' Solskjaer reflected.

'He came into the team with a lack of confidence and you can see that has taken a toll. Not surprised by his performance, we know he is capable of that.'

This season it seems he'll have the chance to show exactly what he can do.

* The player is reported to earn only £800 per week but that will improve
* He has impressed on pre-season tour, scoring against Leeds and Inter Milan

Manchester United are reportedly set to reward one of their most promising academy starlets, Mason Greenwood, with a new deal.

Manchester United are reportedly set to reward Mason Greenwood, 17, with a new deal. Greenwood, who reportedly earns £800 a week, has scored twice on United's pre-season tour

Greenwood has scored twice for United during their pre-season tour of Australasia, once against Leeds and another against Inter Milan.

The striker's pace and eye for goal has been a huge asset on the tour and it is thought Solskjaer will be giving him more first-team opportunities having handed him three Premier League appearances last season.

The England Under-18 international penned his first professional contract last August but United are expected to improve his terms before he turns 18 in October.

'Mason's more of a natural finisher': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals 17-year-old Man United wonderkid Greenwood is better in front of goal than Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees Mason Greenwood as one of his best strikers
* Solskjaer says he is a superior finisher to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial
* Greenwood excelled in pre-season with goals against Leeds and Inter Milan

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed 17-year-old Mason Greenwood is 'more of a natural finisher' than Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Greenwood's exuberant performances stole headlines this summer after he found the net in pre-season against Leeds in Perth and Inter Milan in Singapore.

The striker was rewarded with a cameo appearance in the victory over Chelsea and Solskjaer is planning the right moment to give him a first start of the season.

The Norwegian boss believes the youngster is more potent in front of goal than his more experienced team-mates.

'They've (Martial and Rashford) still got a way to go because Mason's more of a natural finisher than them two', said Solskjaer.

'I want both of them to be more scoring easy goals because you don't have to work too hard to score them, just a little bit of movement.

Mason Greenwood has been halied by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a 'natural finisher'. Greenwood was handed an appearance as a substitute in the 4-0 win over Chelsea

'It was a great counter-attack (against Chelsea), great runs by Anthony and I think maybe he felt he should have got the first pass, it went a little bit wide out to Jesse (Lingard) and he stopped.

'But then he got himself back in a good position and even though he might have mishit it, it went in, so if you can get five extra goals like this every season, both of them, that's 10.'

Greenwood is expected to be included in the United squad to face Wolves at Molineux on Monday evening.

He takes penalties with either foot and the boss thinks he's a better finisher than Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial: Mason Greenwood is the £1,000-a-week 17-year-old whose eye-catching talent persuaded United to let Lukaku and Sanchez join Inter Milan

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees Mason Greenwood as United's most natural finisher
* The 17-year-old has caught the eye of his team-mates with his displays in training
* United let Lukaku and Sanchez leave as they think Greenwood is a safer bet
* He doesn't seem fazed in the slightest by the opportunities that lie before him
* The youngster may be handed second league start at Southampton on Saturday

Who, of Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial, is Manchester United's best finisher? Ole Gunnar Solskjaer delivered the answer with a wink but do not let that fool you.

'Mason's more of a natural finisher than them two,' Solskjaer grinned. Given how those around United enthuse when the name Mason Greenwood is mentioned, he probably meant every word.

Right foot or left foot, the 17-year-old is banging them in at Carrington, leaving an impression on his team-mates and indicating exactly why the manager has let two experienced strikers leave without replacing them.

Mason Greenwood has progressed quickly and will get a proper, extended chance this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Greenwood is the best natural finisher in his United squad

Whether Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez's exits are viewed as sound or silly will become crystal clear pretty quickly — United are adamant it will be the former — but what cannot be disputed is Solskjaer's admirable insistence on giving the teenager a proper, extended chance this season.

Greenwood is not 18 until October, still earning under £1,000 a week on his first professional deal signed last year, and is seen as a safer bet than Sanchez. That says as much about how quickly the teenager has progressed since Solskjaer's appointment as it does how sharply the Chilean, now at Inter Milan for the campaign, regressed.

The goals in pre-season offered a perfect start, the first during victory over Leeds in Perth to get the ball rolling and the second clinical against Inter in Singapore. Greenwood chopped from right foot to left and thrashed into the far corner as Inter watched.

'I am sure he will grab his chance because everything is there,' Solskjaer said. 'He is two-footed. That first goal will be a weight off his shoulders.'

Eighteenth birthdays usually spring new contracts and you would expect Greenwood to be penning one of those sooner rather than later – even though his current deal runs until 2021.

The rise to the first team has been coming. Jose Mourinho took him on tour last summer, albeit because of absences following the World Cup, and a collection of the club's stars have known about him for some time.

Greenwood showed his ability of with a stunning finish in pre-season against Inter Milan. The 17-year-old has also earned high praise from his Manchester Untied team-mates

Clips of his goals in the academy teams have circulated around the dressing room for more than 12 months and felt only a matter of time before he then became integrated into Solskjaer's squad. His 30 goals in 29 games for the academy teams last year came as no surprise. Neither was the Jimmy Murphy award in May.

Greenwood is close with James Garner, the midfielder United also hope will blossom. Rashford has spoken eloquently about the forward's rise, so too Scott McTominay.

'Mason has just grown and grown and in every single training session you're seeing more from him,' McTominay said.

'The manager was a striker and I'm sure Mason will be getting a lot of different coaching and different ways in which he can follow in the footsteps of some amazing strikers that have played at this football club.'

He became youngest man to play for United in Europe since Norman Whiteside last season

Greenwood is presented with the Young Player of the Year award by Neil Ryan back in May

When United practise penalties, Greenwood takes them with either foot. It doesn't sound like he's fazed by the opportunities that lie before him; how could it, after Solskjaer threw him a debut in search of a goal away at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League? The youngest man to play for United in Europe since Norman Whiteside.

Greenwood has definitely added energy to the attack when coming off the bench early in the season. He is capable of playing across a front three and certainly no slouch, either. Solskjaer has different options of where to introduce him and it'll be intriguing to see if the youngster is thrown in against Southampton this weekend.

Anthony Martial is struggling with a thigh injury and, given how few attackers United now have at their disposal, St Mary's could well be the scene of Greenwood's second ever Premier League start. Don't back against Solskjaer handing him the shirt.

Mason Greenwood 'set to sign new £25,000-a-week deal after breaking into Manchester United first-team'

* Manchester United want to reward Mason Greenwood for his progress
* They only tied him to a new deal last October but want to give him fresh terms
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has used him from the bench throughout this season

Mason Greenwood could head a pack of young Manchester United stars in signing a new contract after breaking into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's set-up, according to reports.

United only tied Greenwood down to a deal last October, but they want to reward him after his progression and they have therefore opened talks to improve the terms of his deal.

According to the Athletic, he could command as much as £25,000 per week — along with bonuses depending on performances.

Mason Greenwood has broken into the first-team set-up at Manchester United recently. He could command as much as £25,000 per week — along with bonuses based on his displays

Greenwood has been given opportunities from the bench in all four of United's Premier League games so far this season.

He has played a total of 47 minutes after scoring twice in pre-season. There is also an expectation that Greenwood will start some games in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League.

Solskjaer has been keen on the 17-year-old for a while and gave him his first start against Cardiff on the final day of last season.

In July, he made clear how highly he rated the forward, who was recently called up by England Under 21s.

The Norwegian said: 'I think with his movement and his cleverness, he's going to be a very good player, the young boy.

'He can play all of the front-three positions, or across the front four, as he can play No 10, No 7, No 11 and No 9.

'He's a natural footballer with his left foot, coming in, but he's got two feet. He takes free kicks with his left, free kicks with his right.

'He must stay clear of injuries, be professional and I'm sure he's going to grab his chance. Everything is there for him.'

United are also expected to enter talks with the likes of Angel Gomes, James Garner, Tahith, Brandon Williams and Ethan Laird.

Default Re: Mason Will John Greenwood

'In my mind he's gonna be a proper Man United player for a long long time…. he's desperate now to start with the big boys': Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves lavish praise on new Old Trafford hero Mason Greenwood

* Mason Greenwood scored Manchester United's winning goal on Thursday
* His strike gave United the three points in their Europa League group
* Praise has been pouring in for the youngster thanks to his performance

It was all eyes on Manchester United's youth players on Thursday night as they managed a 1-0 victory over Astana in their opening Europa League game.

Mason Greenwood was the man to see them over the line, with his first senior goal for the club.

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves lavished praise on the 17-year-old.

17-year-old Mason Greenwood scored Manchester United's winning goal against Astana. It was an excellent finish through the goalkeeper's legs to get his first senior goal for the club. Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves lavished praise on the youngster after the game

'He'll have a part to play in the Premier League no question,' said Owen. 'His goal record at youth level is phenomenal. In my mind he's gonna be a proper Manchester United player for a long, long time.'

It was a well taken goal from Greenwood, slotting the ball between the keepers' legs with a shot from inside the box.

'Stay fit, stay healthy, and the sky is the absolute limit for him,' said Hargreaves. 'He can be anything he wants, top scorer in the Premier League one day. I'm excited to see he's able to decide a Europa League game at 17.

'For a young player to have that composure in the box, he's gonna be a top player.'

They believe he will be at United for a long time, and will also be an England international

Despite playing well tonight, Greenwood was joined by several other youth players he's used to playing with.

'The problem is sometimes you play with a raft of changes,' said Owen. 'He's doing this on a weekly basis, playing with these players. He's desperate now to start with the big boys. They will feed him even better balls, and he'll quickly prove he's good enough to play in the first team already.

'It's all a mental thing now. He's good enough. He'll think a bit differently to a lot of the players tonight because he's probably been carrying the youth team.

'As soon as he starts playing regularly for Manchester United he'll be in the England squad.'
