Default Re: Bruno Fernandes

Sporting Lisbon 'rubbing their hands together over unexpected £4.5m bonus payment from Bruno Fernandes transfer' should Manchester United qualify for the Champions League

* Manchester United will owe Sporting Lisbon £4.5m if they finish in the top four
* It is part of a number of bonuses that were agreed in the Bruno Fernandes deal
* United will also owe them £4.5m once Fernandes reaches 20 appearances
* The Portuguese midfielder made a sensational £68m move back in January

Sporting Lisbon are reportedly waiting to collect a further payment of £9million from Manchester United as part of the deal that took Bruno Fernandes to Old Trafford in January.

The Portuguese midfielder made a sensational £68m move earlier this year and has slotted into United's midfield effortlessly, becoming a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans.

It is believed Sporting let him go for an initial £47m, which could rise to £68m depending on whether a series of bonuses are met.

Manchester United will owe Sporting Lisbon £4.5m if they qualify for next season's Champions League as part of the Bruno Fernandes deal. Sporting chiefs are said to be 'rubbing their hands together' after the chances of United finishing in the top four looked bleak back in January

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, one of those is for £4.5m to be paid out if United qualify for next season's Champions League.

Sporting chiefs are said to be 'rubbing their hands together' at that because it seemed unlikely United would finish in the top four when the deal was struck.

It will come as a huge boost as reports back in May claimed Sporting were struggling financially and had already secured new funding to ensure they received the initial £47m after Portuguese banks due to provide the cash this summer pulled out.

United agreed a deal to pay for Fernandes in instalments over five years, but Sporting wanted access to most of the money up front so secured gap funding from banks, a common practice at the top of the transfer market.

Fernandes has rejuvenated United since arriving in the January transfer window for £68m. The 25-year-old has scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 18 appearances so far

Due to the worsening economic situation, however, the interest rate Sporting are paying on the loan doubled to five per cent.

Sporting are also poised to receive another £4.5m from United once Fernandes has made 20 appearances for the Red Devils.

He is currently on 18 but United have at least three more games to be played this season and potentially even more depending on how far they progress in the Europa League.

United fans have been immediately impressed with Fernandes. The 25-year-old has scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 18 appearances so far.

'He knows that keepers will wait for him to do the jump': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praises Manchester United matchwinner Bruno Fernandes for changing his penalty run-up to catch out Copenhagen goalkeeper

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on Man United star Bruno Fernandes
* Fernandes scored the winner as United beat Copenhagen in the Europa League
* The Portuguese stepped up to slot home a clinical penalty in extra time
* He had used a different run up to the 'jump' he normally utilises for spot kicks
* Solskjaer said Fernandes has the ability to switch up different techniques

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on Bruno Fernandes after the Portuguese maestro proved the match winner as Manchester United saw off Copenhagen to advance to the Europa League semi-finals.

United were made to work hard for their 1-0 victory on Monday, with the Danes forcing them to find a winner in extra time after a stoic defensive performance in Cologne, Germany.

But they managed to break the deadlock after 95 minutes when Fernandes stepped up to convert a spot-kick after Anthony Martial was brought down in the penalty area during a threatening attack.

The Portuguese's spot kick was the difference as United advanced to the Europa League semis

His strike was his 11th goal for United since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January, in what has proven to be an inspired move for the Old Trafford club.

Fernandes has become United's designated penalty taker, but decided to steer clear of his tried and tested 'jump' run-up for the spot-kick on Monday - instead driving the ball into the bottom corner without hesitation.

BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage had noted that from the Portuguese: 'There was no jump there. The keeper was waiting for that jump. He just ran up to the ball, no jump, smashes it. Different technique, same result. 1-0 United,' he said.

Fernandes did not use his 'jump' run-up for his spot kick, which confused the goalkeeper. Solskjaer said that Fernandes can switch up different penalty taking techniques

And United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that his star man has the ability to switch up different types of penalties to confuse goalkeepers.

'He knows that keepers will wait for him to do the jump,' the United manager said. 'He practices both of them and he practices both sides so he's got them sorted. Better than I was anyway!'

United advance to Sunday's semi-final where they will meet either Wolves or Sevilla, with the pair playing their quarter=final on Tuesday in Duisburg.

The Red Devils beat Nuno Espirito Santo's side in the FA Cup earlier this season, and should the west Midlands club get past the Spaniards, it will be the fifth time the two clubs have met this season - they have drawn on the three other occasions.

Top Skor Liga Europa: Bruno Fernandes
Kris Fathoni W - detikSport

Berikut daftar top skor Liga Europa:

8 Bruno Fernandes (Sporting CP/Manchester United)

7 Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan)

6 Andraž Šporar (Slovan Bratislava/Sporting CP)
6 Daichi Kamada (Eintracht Frankfurt)
6 Alfredo Morelos (Rangers)
6 Edin Višća (İstanbul Başakşehir)
6 Diogo Jota (Wolves)

5 Munir (Sevilla)
5 Mason Greenwood (Manchester United)
5 Fabian Frei (Basel)
5 Marko Raguz (LASK)

'It's instinct, I can't control this': Bruno Fernandes reveals his struggle to follow orders of Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and reduce his tireless running

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Bruno Fernandes he must reserve his energy more
* Midfielder has been a revelation since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January
* Fernandes says he is struggling to follow Solskjaer's order due to his 'instict'

Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes admits he is struggling to curb his natural instinct during matches, despite being told to calm down by manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer.

Fernandes has been a revelation since signing for the club in January, and was a huge driving factor behind United achieving a third-placed finish and wrapping up Champions League qualification.

Despite his blistering introduction however Fernandes admits his manager is now constantly on at him to reduce his running, which he is finding particularly tough to listen to.

Speaking this week to United's official website, Fernandes said: 'He [Solskjaer] says to me a lot of times "sometimes you do so many runs and some runs aren’t for you – you need to shout someone else to run, because after you are tired and, when you take the ball, you will not be fresh."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Bruno Fernandes he must reserve his energy more. Fernandes has been a revelation since joining United from Sporting Lisbon in January

'But it’s instinct, it’s part of my game. I can’t control this. I’m like this and I want to help the team every time.

'In the game, you don’t think, you just run. For me, that’s enough.

'I think the most important thing is to help the team and if you help the team it’s OK.'

Fernandes is soon set to return to United pre-season training, as Solskjaer looks to get regroup his side and ensure their recent Europa League semi-final heartache is firmly behind them.

Solskjaer must move swiftly to get things under control at Old Trafford, and handle the fall-out following captain Harry Maguire's recent arrest in Greece.

On Thursday however it emerged that Fernandes' midfield partner Paul Pogba has tested positive for coronavirus, and has been omitted from the upcoming France national squad as a result.

'He just looks like he's got that belief in himself': Gary Neville backs Man United star man Bruno Fernandes to continue superb form next season... and praises playmaker for helping team-mates to 'become a lot better'

* Gary Neville says Bruno Fernandes will keep performing for Manchester United
* The Portuguese playmaker has impressed since arriving from Sporting Lisbon
* Fernandes was widely hailed as the turning point behind United's improved form
* And Neville has insisted Fernandes will return fit and firing again next season

Gary Neville believes that Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes will return fit and firing again next season.

The 25-year-old playmaker was widely hailed as the turning point behind United's improved form after his January arrival from Sporting Lisbon, and his eight league goals helped haul the team into the top four.

Despite Fernandes appearing visibly tired towards the back end of a testing campaign, Neville has insisted that his former club's main man will avoid a dip in form.

'Bruno Fernandes was shattered by the end of the season,' he told Sky Sports.

'In the last few games he looked absolutely spent, but the expectation, what he'd done since he'd come in, he played in every single game, even the game at Norwich in the FA Cup, which was just bizarre at the time.

'I think Ole had a thing with him where he thought he'd just keep him going.

Gary Neville has backed Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes to continue his lethal form. The Sky Sports pundit also insisted Fernandes will shake off any tiredness from last season. The 25-year-old playmaker was a key factor behind United sealing a Champions League spot

'He was on a roll, he's fit, he can run, he's so energetic and when he's in the team we win.

'But there definitely was that dip towards the end where he looked like he needed that rest. Hopefully, he's had that rest now and he's ready to go again.

'His attitude doesn't tell me, and when you watch him, his performances don't tell me that there's going to be a dip because he just looks like he's got that belief in himself and the courage to take the ball.

'Even if he has a difficult start to the season he'll not lose that belief to get on the ball and go and find space, try and play the pass that is difficult and try and play the ball forward.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer relied heavily on Fernandes' goals during United's late-season games. Neville believes the superb introduction of Fernandes has helped improve his team-mates

'That's the big thing for me, he always looks for a pass forward to try and unlock a team. He's enabled the front three to become a lot better.'

Fernandes netted 12 goals and recorded eight assists in all competitions after his £68million signing, and has proven a revelation after United wrapped up their third-placed finish and a Champions League spot.

The Old Trafford outfit begin the new league season by welcoming Crystal Palace on September 19.

'We stayed there for two seconds hugging!': Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes reveals he has made up with team-mate Victor Lindelof after their row on the pitch following Sevilla's Europa League winner

* Sevilla's winner against Manchester United resulted in a row on the pitch
* United team-mates Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof had a huge argument
* However, Fernandes says the pair quickly made up after the Europa League loss
* Fernandes and Lindelof speak Portuguese and are close in the dressing room
* The Swedish star appeared to call the midfielder 'a son of a b****' in Portuguese

Bruno Fernandes insists he has quickly repaired relations with Victor Lindelof after their furious row on the pitch following Sevilla's match-winner in the Europa League last month.

The Manchester United pair were caught on camera shouting at each other following Luuk de Jong's winner in the semi-finals in Cologne, with Lindelof appeared to be telling Fernandes 'f*** you' followed by 'Filho da Puta' in Portuguese to his midfield team-mate - which translates as 'son of a b****'.

United crashed out, losing 2-1, and now Portuguese midfielder Fernandes elaborated on the aftermath and his close relationship with Swedish defender Lindelof.

Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof had a huge row on the pitch after Sevilla's match-winner. Fernandes played down the row and now adds that his relationship with Lindelof is good

'He is one of the people with whom I have the best relationship in the club, also because he speaks Portuguese, and as everyone saw he speaks well,' Fernandes told Portuguese outlet A Bola.

'Those were obviously the first words he learned in Portugal, it is always what we teach them.

'But it was a game situation that none took to heart. It ended and we went directly to our countries, he to Sweden and I to Portugal.

'At the farewell we hugged, we leaned our heads and didn't even need to talk to each other.

Lindelof reportedly told midfielder Fernandes he was a 'son of a b****' in Portuguese

'We stayed there for those two seconds hugging and we realised what we wanted to say to each other.'

Straight after the match, Fernandes played down the incident: 'It is normal when you concede a goal, everyone was mad.

'It was not about me or Victor, what happened is nothing. It was normal, it is about looking out for each other. It will happen in a lot more teams too.'

Bruno Fernandes insists he's more than just a ruthless penalty-taker after Jose Mourinho's jibe about the number of spot-kicks Man United receive - and boasts only Kevin De Bruyne is involved in more goals from open play

* Man United's Bruno Fernandes has insisted he is more than a penalty specialist
* Jose Mourinho took a swipe at United regarding their amount of spot-kicks
* Midfielder Fernandes made an instant impact following his £68m January move
* He scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in second half of 2019-20 season
* Eight of those goals came from the penalty spot but Fernandes defended himself

Bruno Fernandes has insisted he is more than just a penalty specialist following Jose Mourinho's dig at Manchester United's spot-kick record.

The Tottenham manager took a swipe at United regarding the amount of spot-kicks Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were awarded last season.

Fernandes had a 100 per cent record from 12 yards for the Red Devils - scoring eight last campaign, but he has pointed out that only Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne was involved in more goals from open play.

'Bruno came in, he was fit, played very well and improved the United team,' Mourinho told Portuguese newspaper Record.

'He also proved to be a great penalty taker, one of the best in the world, because he had about 20 to score!'.

Fernandes made an instant impact following his £68million January move from Sporting Lisbon, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in 22 matches.

The 25-year-old pointed out his influence on games during the second half of the season, comparing himself to Manchester City maestro De Bruyne.

'I hear people saying, "ah, he only scores from penalty kicks"… but a little while ago, I saw the statistics and, except for penalties, only Kevin De Bruyne has a higher involvement in goals than me in England when it comes to midfielders,' he told A Bola.

Fernandes defended himself and said Mourinho's jibe about him being 'a great penalty taker, because he had about 20 to score' is a 'reality'.

'I honestly did not feel stung,' he added. 'I feel that I am a good penalty taker and nothing more, I understand, but what I take from his [Mourinho's] words, because I'm a very positive person, is that he said I hit penalties well.

'It is a reality, not least since I arrived at Manchester United.'

Bruno Fernandes has insisted he is more than just a penalty specialist after Jose Mourinho's dig. Tottenham manager took a swipe at Manchester United regarding their amount of spot-kicks. Fernandes has defended himself by comparing his influence on games to Kevin De Bruyne's. Eight out of Fernandes' 12 goals last season came from penalty spot, including three in Europe

Following the arrival of Fernandes, United's form improved and he helped them seal a Champions League spot in the Premier League after being off the pace earlier in the 2019-20 campaign.

Last season United were awarded a record 14 penalties in the Premier League. Mourinho was on the receiving end of two penalty decisions when United drew 1-1 with Spurs.

The first saw Paul Pogba dragged back by Eric Dier before United were awarded a second penalty in injury time, although VAR overturned that decision.

'The second one was incredible for me,' Mourinho said after the game.

'If VAR goes for simulation, the players could be exposed and given a yellow card. Fernandes comes from a country that I know well.'

It's not the first time Mourinho has jibed at United's penalty record. In July, when asked to compare United's attack with Tottenham's, the Spurs boss said: 'United's 13 penalties is a help. It's a help!'

'Many thought Bruno had not scored... they were wrong!': Manchester United star Fernandes celebrates the birth of his son - after making a mad dash from Portugal's win over Croatia (and being held up by anti-doping officials)

* Bruno Fernandes' wife gave birth just hours after the player played for Portugal
* Fernandes played 90 minutes in Portugal's 4-1 Nations League win over Croatia
* He then had to make a mad dash across Porto to help his wife who was in labour
* The 25-year-old's son, Goncalo, was born just four hours after the match

Bruno Fernandes had to hurry across Porto on Saturday night after his wife Ana gave birth to his second child just hours after he finished playing for Portugal against Croatia in the Nations League.

The 25-year-old's son, Goncalo, was born shortly after 12.30am on Sunday morning, just four hours after the Manchester United man completed Portugal's victory at the Estadio do Dragao.

And Fernandes, whose wife was staying in Porto due to his international commitments, revealed that an anti-doping test after the match delayed his mission to meet his wife.

Bruno Fernandes' wife Ana gave birth to immediately after the Portugal's win on Saturday

Fernandes (left)'s new son was born just four hours after Portugal beat Croatia on Saturday. The Man United star revealed a post-match anti-doping test delayed him meeting his wife

In an emotional Instagram post, he wrote: 'September 6, 2020, when many thought that at the end of the national team's game that Bruno Fernandes had not scored a goal they were wrong!'

'Today, 38 weeks and 6 days ago, I scored one of the most important goals of my life and had to wait a distance of almost 9 months, anxious to see the ball hit the back of the net.

'When the game was over many of you said "you didn't score a goal", but you were wrong because despite the final whistle, one of the two best shots I ever took in my career was about to go in, but not without the delegate calling me for anti-doping right after the game.

Fernandes (left) and his wife Ana (right) also have a three-year-old daughter called Matilde

After those moments plus a few hours, behold! the ball went in – or in this specific case Gonçalo de Pinho Fernandes decided it was time for his father to score the second important goal in his life!

'And so at 00:39 on the 6th of September my wife @anaapinho_ once again made our life gain even more life.'

Fernandes and his wife already have a three-year-old girl, Matilde, who celebrated her third birthday on the same day the Portuguese midfielder joined Manchester United on January 31.

On the pitch, Fernandes played the whole 90 minutes as Portugal thrashed World Cup finalists Croatia to get their Nations League defence off to the perfect start.

Joao Cancelo gave Fernando Santos' side a first-half lead while second-half efforts from Diogo Jota, Joao Felix and Andre Silva sealed the impressive win.

Bruno Petkovic scored a stoppage time consolation for the Croatians, who were without talisman Luka Modric who chose to prepare for the upcoming LaLiga season with Real Madrid.
