Re: [EPL] Sheffield United vs Manchester United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Chris Wilder can mentally handle pressure despite Sheffield United's Premier League misery as Manchester United boss sympathises with fired West Brom manager Slaven Bilic
* Slaven Bilic was sacked by West Brom and is the first casualty this season * Chris Wilder is feeling the heat at Sheffield United with his side still winless * Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by Cardiff in 2014 * But he has backed Wilder to turn it around, while expressing sympathy for Bilic Chris Wilder is mentally strong enough to handle the pressure surrounding his future at Sheffield United, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Slaven Bilic became the first managerial casualty in the Premier League this season on Wednesday, and Wilder is also feeling the heat after picking up six fewer points than the West Brom boss with his team winless at the bottom of the table. Solskjaer was sacked by Cardiff in 2014 after failing to keep the club in the Premier League and knows how difficult life can be for the smaller clubs. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Chris Wilder (above) is strong enough to handle the pressure. Slaven Bilic became the first top-flight casualty after being sacked by West Brom Ahead of United's trip to Bramall Lane on Thursday, he backed Blades boss Wilder to come through a difficult patch and hopes that the pandemic might also force clubs to think twice about making a change. 'It's not a nice position to be in as a manager,' said Solskjaer. 'You want your players to be playing with confidence, thinking and believing. 'With Cardiff, it was a new experience – a learning experience and a valuable one. I didn't enjoy it with the results and relegation we got, but as a manager you're one of very few if you're not going to feel the pressure at one point. 'I felt it and Chris, Slaven, whoever feels that pressure, are mentally strong enough because you have to be. Wilder's Sheffield United are yet to win a game this season and sit six points off the Baggies. But the Manchester United boss has backed Wilder to turn it around and is sad for Bilic 'I think these times in a pandemic and what's happened has made everyone sit back and think, and maybe take a deep breath. 'I'm very sad to hear that Slaven lost his job but I think he's done great getting them promotion. I've known him years and I'm sure he'll be back soon. 'Hopefully more and more clubs think long-term. You need short-term results but continuity is the key to success and patience.' The trip to Bramall Lane will see United's No 2 goalkeeper Dean Henderson return to the club where he spent two seasons on loan, helping the Blades win promotion to the Premier League. 'It just shows how sometimes how beneficial some loan deals are,' said Solskjaer. 'Dean has worked his way up through the system and the two years at Sheffield United have made him come back as a mature quality keeper. 'He had experiences with a great promotion and his year in the PL was very valuable for us and him. He's made his England debut and he's learning more and more the United style. 'Our play is a bit different. We have a couple of different demands of him but we're very grateful to Sheffield United and Chris Wilder that they gave him a chance to develop as they did.' Code:
