Re: [EPL] Liverpool 2-0 Man Utd
Liverpool 2 United 0: Player ratings
MEN - Stuart Mathieson Van der Sar: Two excellent saves in the first half but maybe slightly disappointed he was beaten on near post for Torres goal 7 O’Shea: Was a solid performer and not much got past the Irishman 6 Ferdinand: Had been largely on top but was out-muscled and out-manoeuvred by Torres for breakthrough goal 6 Vidic: Had got his head and legs to virtually everything all game but when stretched he suffered 7 Evra: The Frenchman had his normal quality game but couldn’t provide attacking spark 7 Valencia: After his improved form against Bolton and CSKA he never seriously hurt Liverpool with his crosses 5 Scholes: Managed to find room in the frantic midfield battle but couldn’t inspire Reds 6 Carrick: Never really got a firm grip in the engine room but not overrun 5 Giggs: United’s vital spark this season had nothing to dig out for this one 5 Rooney: One decent header but didn’t have much else to get his teeth into 6 Berbatov: Couldn’t bring calm to a frenzied match and never suggested he could inspire 5 Subs: Owen (sub Berbatov 74) No magic wand 5 Nani (sub Scholes 74) No impact 5 Anderson, Fabio, Evans, Neville, Foster Liverpool: Reina, Johnsen, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Benayoun (Skrtel 90), Mascherano, Lucas, Aurelio, Kuyt, Torres (Ngog 80) Goals: Liverpool: Torres (65) Ngog (90) United: None Bookings: Liverpool: Mascherano (72,90) Carragher (87) United: Evra (15) Berbatov (37) Vidic (75, 89) Vidic sent off (89) Mascherano sent off (90) Battle of the Bosses: Referee: Andre Marriner - Got most of big decisions correct 7 Attendance: 44,188 |

Re: [EPL] Man Utd 2-1 Rovers
United 2 Blackburn 0: Player ratings
MEN, James Robson - October 31, 2009 Van der Sar - Ferguson says there’s no one better – but the United manager himself could have kept goal against Blackburn, such was Rovers’ lack of threat. 7 Evra - Was allowed to get forward as often as he liked and how he punished Blackburn with one probing run after another. It was his cross-come-shot that set up Berbatov’s goal. 8 Brown - Lucky to get away with a miscue when under the challenge of Di Santo, but otherwise untroubled at the back. 7 Evans - Clattered when challenging Samba early on, but that was about as tough as it got for the Northern Ireland international, who will hope he now gets an extended run in the first team. 7 O’Shea - Brilliant tackle denied Diouf when through on goal early on, but much of his good work was done supporting Valencia in attack. 7 Nani - Endured some rough stuff from Rovers’ defenders, but kept getting up gamely. Still frustrates when in promising positions and should have done better with a first half header. 6 Carrick - Neat and tidy without every finding the defence-splitting passes he is capable of. Alongside Anderson, controlled the midfield. 7 Anderson - Harassed and harried in midfield to boss the centre of the park and it was his cross that led to Rooney’s goal. 7 Valencia - Increasingly looking at home in the red of United. Missed one good opportunity early on, but his inch perfect first half cross to Berbatov deserved a better finish from the Bulgarian. 7 Rooney - Responsible for the pass of the match when finding Valencia out wide with a perfectly-weighted volley, and a delightful finish killed off what little chance Blackburn had of mounting a comeback. 7 Berbatov - Superb touch and finish fired United ahead and helped erase thoughts of a first half in which he might have scored a hat-trick, if not for some wasteful finishing. 8 Substitutes Obertan (for Nani, 63) - Making his home debut, could have made himself an instant hero when presented with a golden opportunity in the last 10 minutes, but shot wide from eight yards out. Still some good touches added up to a promising start. 6 Owen (for Berbatov 79) - Should have scored his second goal in a week but fired late chance wide. 6 Subs not used: Scholes, Fabio, Fletcher, Kuszczak, De Laet Blackburn: Robinson, Samba, Givet, Nelson, Emerton, Dunn (McCarthy 83), Nzonzi, Andrews (Pedersen 57), Diouf, Di Santo (Kalinic 76), Chimbonda Subs not used: Grella, Hoilett, Salgado, Brown Referee: Phil Dowd – always in control. 4/5 Attendance: 74,658

Re: Man Utd 3-3 CSKA
United 3 CSKA Moscow 3: Player ratings
Van der Sar: Won’t be thanking his defence for their protection but might not be wholly happy with his display 6 Neville: The steady skipper provided sterling defence and decent crosses 6 Brown: Not his best effort against the tricky Necid and unable to give Reds sound base 5 Evans: Improve late on but was very unsteady in the earlier stages 5 Fabio: Was a rock against Krasic in Moscow but roles reversed in this one 5 Valencia: Kept up his goal form as he refused to get too frustrated 6 Scholes: Typical Scholes goal and would have had more but for impressive keeper Akinfeev 6 Fletcher: Good to have the Scot back and ran himself into ground attempting to get a response 6 Nani: His usual mix of mesmeric tricks and frustrating runs into brick walls 5 Macheda: A respectable effort on his Champions League debut. Two good shots and a header against post 6 Owen: A typical goal for his scrapbook but also some frustrating moments 6 Subs: Rooney (sub Nani 58) Ignited crowd 6 Evra (sub Fabio 59) Attacked well 5 Obertan (sub Macheda 82) Pegged Russians back late on 5 Not used: Anderson, O’Shea, Gibson, Kuszczak CSKA Moscow: Akinfeev, A Berezutski, V Berezutski, Ignashevich, Schennikov, Krasic, Semberas, Aldonin, Mamaev (Rahimic 70), Necid, Dzagoev Goals: United: Owen (29) Scholes (84) Georgi Schennikov (own goal) (90) CSKA Moscow: Dzagoev (25) Krasic (31) V Berezutski (47) Bookings: United: Fletcher (49) Macheda (75) CSKA Moscow: Necid (25) Aldonin (54) Semberas (72, 90) Semberas sent off (90) Battle of the Bosses: Novice Champions League coach Slutski will take more from this than Sir Alex Referee: Olegario Benquerenca (Portugal) - Had done okay until he messed up the Fletcher penalty shout and a late handball 5 Attendance: 73, 718
