Former Manchester United star Darren Fletcher is happy for his twin sons Jack and Tyler to sign for bitter rivals Man City despite being an Old Trafford director as Scot encourages the pair to choose their own path

Manchester United technical director Darren Fletcher's twin sons are expected to sign professional contracts across town at Manchester City.

Jack and Tyler, who turn 16 this season, are highly regarded at the City Football Academy after starring through the age groups.

The pair are midfielders, following in the footsteps of their father, who lists the 2008 Champions League among his nine major honours under Sir Alex Ferguson at United.

Fletcher assumed the role of technical director last year as part of a hierarchical overhaul at Old Trafford, with his sons having already long cemented themselves within City's set-up.

Fletcher is happy for them to choose their own path into the game, although the move does represent a quirk given the 38-year-old's powerful position at United.

While it is unusual for the offspring of United stars to pen professional contracts with their bitter rivals, several have opted to send their children to learn their trade at City's academy.

Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Phil Neville, Andrew Cole and Viv Anderson - who amassed more than 1,300 appearances for United between them - have all previously chosen to place kids at City.

Despite his age, Jack - whose game is said to mirror Fletcher Snr's - has already made a brief appearance for City's Under 18 team this term.

Eligible to represent either Scotland or England, they have turned out for both countries and would not be required to pledge allegiances to either unless their careers progressed to senior call-ups.

Tyler featured for England's Under 16s at the Football Federations Cup, a mini tournament comprising eight nations, held in Spain last month.
