Default Manchester United's Academy - News and Rumors

Beberapa waktu lalu diberitakan klo tim muda United (dibawah U-18) babak belur dihajar City.

Setelah Butt ditunjuk menjadi Head of Academy kabar terbaru mengabarkan United menunjuk Henny de Regt sebagai scout (sumber).

_______________

Manchester United legend Brian McClair leaves club to join Scottish FA as performance director

Manchester United legend Brian McClair is to leave the club.

The 51-year-old, United's academy manager, has been appointed the Scottish FA’s performance director, and will begin his new role in May.

McClair departs after 13 years on the staff and 11 years as a player.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: 'Brian's association with Manchester United started in 1987 and, regardless of where he is located, he will always be part of the family.

'As a proud Scotsman, this is a wonderful opportunity for him and he goes with our blessing and our good wishes for the future.

'In his time as Academy manager, he has maintained and enhanced its reputation around the world and made a valuable contribution to the club's success.'

In his new role, McClair will assume overall responsibility for implementing Scottish football's 'performance strategy'. He will work closely with Gordon Strachan and Anna Signeul - the Women's A Squad coach - to ensure 'a co-ordinated approach to elite talent development.'

McClair, additionally, will be in control of Scotland's seven regional 'performance schools' - holding more than 300 of the country's brightest young talents, and it is a role he is excited to begin.

'I am extremely proud to have been given the responsibility to help Scottish football move forward,' he told the SFA website.

'I am sure my experiences can be of benefit to Scottish football and having spent the majority of the last 30 years in England with Manchester United I am looking forward to coming home, working with the coaching team at the Scottish FA and the clubs, and sharing the knowledge I have built up in that time to take on this new, exciting challenge.'

In addition, Stewart Regan, Scottish FA Chief Executive, gave his thoughts on the appointment of their new performance director.

'The process...was very thorough and hugely uplifting when we considered the quality of candidates. Brian very quickly became a stand-out with his blend of experiences, not just from his trophy-laden career as a player at Manchester United and his international contribution, but the depth of his coaching experiences with one of the biggest and most successful teams in the world.

'He has been at the cutting edge of coaching evolution, analysis and performance management at Manchester United and the recruitment panel were convinced he was the ideal person to lead the Performance Strategy into an exciting new era, enhancing the current provision while demonstrating the benefits of the investment so far to the future of Scottish football.

'I would like to thank Gordon, Walter and Andy for their invaluable input.'

Bedanya klo McClair langsung cabut si Langley sih mo nunggu sampe akhir musim.

_______________

Manchester United academy set for overhaul with head of youth player recruitment Derek Langley ready to leave

Major changes to Manchester United's academy are expected over the coming months, with their head of youth player recruitment primed to leave offering the first indication of a recasting.

Derek Langley, instrumental in bringing through Danny Welbeck, Adnan Januzaj and Tom Cleverley, is ready to depart at the end of the season.

He is understood to be unsettled by the extensive adjustments at youth levels and disillusioned at a lack of communication coursing through Carrington.

United's root-and-branch review means every senior position underneath head of academy Nicky Butt is up for grabs in the coming months, with prospective new employees already being interviewed.

Sportsmail understands Tottenham's head of coaching and player development, John McDermott, is someone under consideration for Langley's role but is not thought to be interested.

United's system is one which brought through the famous Class of '92 but has struggled to fulfil expectations over the last few years.

Butt has been performing the role since Brian McClair's departure last February to start as the Scottish FA's performance director but there is a recognition inside the club that he needs further help.

Langley, meanwhile, has recently been assisted on the administrative side by club secretary John Alexander until United appointed new faces.

But his time at the club looks likely to come to an end, while United are desperate to claw back ground lost to rivals Manchester City.

City's recruitment drive has been seen as 'over-zealous' by their rivals, one of the reasons United considered boycotting youth derby matches.

The blue half of Manchester has also invested £200million on the extravagant City Football Academy across the road from the Etihad Stadium, housing all their teams.

Building an academy stadium in Salford is something under consideration by United, who have endured the ignominy of having to call off Under 18 fixtures through lack of numbers at a higher age group.

They are, however, in the process of capturing young talent, with the signing of 16-year-old Italian central defender Luca Ercolani all but sealed after impressing on trial.

_______________

Nicky Butt has been appointed as Manchester United’s new Head of Academy.

Nicky, 41, is a graduate of the Academy’s famous Class of '92 and made 387 competitive appearances for the Club between 1992 and 2004, during which time he won six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, a UEFA Champions League and an Intercontinental Cup winners’ medal. He currently holds his UEFA Pro coaching licence.

Announcing the appointment, Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward said: “I am delighted that Nicky has accepted the role of Head of Academy. Nicky has the traditions and heritage of this Club in his blood and he is the natural choice to ensure that, in modernising the way the Academy operates and shaping the new investment we are making, it retains the values and the focus that it has always had.

"Manchester United’s Academy is completely focused on producing young players for our first team. As a graduate of its finest team in the modern era, Nicky will bring passion, energy and experience to drive the Academy forward, retaining the characteristics that give us a competitive advantage – namely an unmatched track record of player development together with the runway of first-team action. In the last four years, some 15 Academy graduates have played for the first team, playing a total of 173 appearances – a record of which the Club is very proud.”

Nicky Butt said: “It’s a privilege to take on this role. As someone who learned his trade in the United youth set-up, it’s a huge honour now to be given the chance to lead the Academy and to instil its values and attitudes to continue to create future generations of Manchester United players.

“It’s a big challenge but I am fortunate to be taking over a dedicated, first-class team. Our aim remains the same – to keep supplying the first team with well-coached, rounded players that understand the responsibility of playing for the biggest club in the world.”

Sah!!! Butt menggantikan McClair.

Manchester United appoint highly-rated Henny de Regt as academy scout as part of youth system revamp

Manchester United’s academy revamp continues at pace with the appointment of former Ajax scout Henny de Regt.

The Dutchman has been brought in to assist head of youth recruitment Derek Langley and gets to work straight away.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward promised that the ‘root-and-branch’ review of the youth system was complete and major changes would follow suit.

Nicky Butt was hoisted to head of academy earlier in the week and De Regt arrives with a strong reputation.

De Regt is renowned for spotting emerging talent in Holland having previously worked with the likes of Rafael van der Vaart, Nigel de Jong and Jan Vertonghen.

More recently he was the man credited with finding 16-year-old Matthijs De Ligt, one of the continent’s brightest central defenders at Ajax.

De Regt worked in various roles at the Dutch giants for 18 years, including in the analyst department and coaching.

He is said to be a close friend of Louis van Gaal, although the United manager does not have any control over the club’s academy.

De Regt has worked under Van Gaal before, as well as Dick Advocaat, and also served under the Serbian FA.

Butt is keen to hit the ground running and restore United’s academy back to former glories.

‘In football, or any walk of life really, it’s not always going to be easy with pats on the back and talk of how well you’re doing,’ he said. ‘You’re coming up against hurdles quite a lot.

'If you’re too soft, you’re not going to be able to deal with that. You’ve got to have great facilities, which we feel we’ve got here, but you need a lot of tough things as well.

‘You can be having everything easy – training grounds like villages, everything like looking through a crystal ball or with rose-tinted glasses. You’ve got to have a bit of the hard stuff as well, got to have a bit of a slog, play on bad surfaces, sometimes play against bad teams, bad crowds, with wind and rain-swept pitches.

‘Football is not always about Old Trafford, the Nou Camp or the Bernabeu.’

Manchester United academy undergoing Premier League checks to ensure standards are kept to see if it meets top-level status

* Manchester United academy undergoing audit by Belgian company
* Double Pass has been enlisted to carry out four day check at club
* Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward held meetings ahead of audit
* Premier League ensure all standards are kept with independent checks
* Academies given category status of one to four, with one being most elite

Manchester United's academy is undergoing an audit this week to see if it still meets Category One status.

Highly regarded Belgian company Double PASS has been enlisted by the Premier League to carry out the four day check starting at Carrington on Wednesday.

United executive vicechairman Ed Woodward was at Carrington on Tuesday holding a series of meetings ahead of their arrival though academy staff are already well drilled on what is required under the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).

United are among the last of the top category clubs to be looked at as the Premier League ensure all standards are kept up.

Academies are independently audited and given a category status of one to four, with one being the most elite.

They are rated on productivity rates, training facilities and coaching, education and welfare provisions. The higher a club's category the more funding will be available to it from the Premier League.

Double PASS, headed up by former banker Hugo Shoukens, a licensed academy director who used to work for Anderlecht, are reputed to be the most detailed football auditors in the world.

United's academy is undergoing a four day audit as the Premier League ensures standards are kept up

They were formed as a spin-off from Brussels University Department of Sports Management and have been instrumental in the re-invention of football development in Belgium and Germany. They are also currently working in the USA where every MLS franchise member will undergo one of their audits by 2017.

The Premier League asked for their help in 2012 to provide a more objective view of clubs's standards.

Initially, clubs are asked to upload documents that cover every aspect of their operation to Double PASS’s computers for review. A team of three Double PASS assessors then interview staff and observe training sessions and games, live and on dvd and complete an assessment that covers eight categories: strategic and financial planning, talent identification and development, personnel, organisational structure and decision making, athletic and social support, communications and cooperation, facilities and equipment and effectiveness.

United only officially appointed Nicky Butt as head of academy last month and are still in the process of restructuring staff on and off the pitch.

Greater money has been spent on players at Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal but they have high hopes for the likes of 15-year-old Angel Gomes and hope to add new home recruits as well as foreign talent such as Tahith Chong from Feyenoord.

First-team injuries have also enabled Marcus Rashford, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Timothy Fosu Mensah to break through ahead of schedule.

Manchester United head of academy Nicky Butt 'really excited' about highly-rated American teenager Matthew Olosunde

* Highly-rated teen Matthew Olosunde joined Manchester United last month
* The Premier League giants signed the 18-year-old defender on January 29
* The Old Trafford outfit were forced into waiting for international clearance
* United's head of academy Nicky Butt hailed the signing of American teen

Manchester United's head of academy Nicky Butt has hailed American teenager Matthew Olosunde as 'someone we're really excited about'.

The versatile defender officially signed for United on January 29 but was forced into waiting for international clearance before being given the green light to play for the club last month.

And Butt, who enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at United as a player, has admitted his delight after the Old Trafford outfit finally landed the youngster.

Matthew Olosunde (right, pictured while on international duty with USA) joined Manchester United last month

'He's one that's been ongoing for a while. With the clearance, it took a while, but we've got him,' he told Inside United.

'He's a good player, a nice lad and a really good athlete. Hopefully, we'll see a lot from him in the coming years because he's someone we're really excited about.'

Olosunde will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow starlets such as Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson by making a name for himself in the first team at Old Trafford.

Olosunde, who was once on the books of New York Red Bulls, looked set to join Duke University in North Carolina after he was listed on their team website.

The youngster beams with delight while posing for a picture with Ryan Giggs after signing his contract

However he turned down their offer to join Barclays Premier League giants United.

Duke head coach John Kerr said of the defender before his move to England: 'Matthew is a fantastic player who is comfortable playing in the back or in midfield.

'He has wicked pace and has incredible defensive recovery speed. He has great one vs one instincts on both sides of the ball and will help us right away in a number of positions.'

Olosunde quit MLS outfit New York Red Bulls to attend college at Duke University but his change of heart allowed United to snap up the teenage prospect.

Manchester United agree deal to sign 16-year-old Swiss striker Nishan Burkhart

Manchester United have agreed a deal to bring in Swiss striker Nishan Burkhart.

The 16-year-old from FC Zurich has been in talks with United since late last year and informed the Swiss club he will not be signing a professional contract with them opting to move to Old Trafford instead.

United turned to Burkhart despite also scouting his international teammate Lorenzo Gonzalez of Servette who is poised to join Manchester City.

They see Burkhart as offering greater versatility and sense he has more room for development. The Swiss U16 international has been compared in style to Theo Walcott at Arsenal and has attracted attention from the Gunners plus Chelsea and Southampton.

Zurich president Ancilo Canepa said: 'Nishan Burkart’s family have decided to move him to Manchester United. Therefore we have decided not to use the player. We are concerned with planning for the squad next season.'

Burkhart, who has already been at Carrington with his parents to meet Ryan Giggs and other United staff, will be joined by Tahith Chong from Feyenoord.

Meanwhile, Servette striker Gonzalez was a guest of Manchester City at last week's Champions League tie with Paris St Germain is expected to finalise his £230,000 move in the summer.

Manchester United close in on Nick Cox to join revamped academy coaching staff

* Nick Cox has long been on Manchester United's youth setup radar
* The Blades' academy manager is expected to join United next season
* United are changing their academy structure under club great Nicky Butt

Manchester United are set to appoint Sheffield United coach Nick Cox to their academy set-up.

The Blades' academy manager has long been on United's radar as they stepped up their efforts to revamp their junior ranks.

And barring any last minute hitches, Cox will join the Old Trafford club ahead of next season.

Cox, who has been at Bramall lane since December 2012, will work alongside head of academy Nicky Butt.

A number of academy players have made their mark under Louis van Gaal this season, Marcus Rashford, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Nevertheless, United are carrying through with planned changes to their academy structure as they continue their commitment to homegrown talent.

UNITED CONFIRM EIGHT NEW ACADEMY PLAYERS

Manchester United has confirmed the names of eight new first-year scholars in the club's Academy, all of whom will be eligible to play for the Under-18 team in 2016/17.

There is already plenty of experience at that level within the group as Angel Gomes was regularly involved in Tommy Martin's side last season. The skilful no.10, who has already played in the FA Youth Cup at the age of 15, turns 16 on the last day of August and will be expected to be an influential figure as he looks to add to his three Under-18 Premier League goals so far.

Dynamic midfielder Aidan Barlow and England Under-17 livewire George Tanner also scored for the Under-18s in 2015/16. Jake Barratt and Harry Spratt were blooded too, while their fellow defender Luca Ercolani made the bench after completing his arrival from Forli in his native Italy.

Another defender, Max Dunne, is the only Manchester-born youngster in the group, although Barlow is from nearby Salford. Meanwhile, versatile Republic of Ireland youth captain Lee O'Connor joins from Waterford, where former Reds star John O'Shea was born.

First-year scholars 2016/17 : Aidan Barlow, Jake Barratt, Max Dunne, Luca Ercolani, Angel Gomes, Lee O'Connor, Harry Spratt, George Tanner.
