ULTIMATE FOOTBALLER: LINDELOF V AMENDOLA

To celebrate the start of the 2017/18 NFL season, Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof faced New England Patriots wide-receiver Danny Amendola in a series of challenges to find out who is the ultimate footballer.

The challenge, part of the #GameRecognizeGame series, took place at United’s training base in LA during Tour 2017, presented by Aon, and United’s new centre-back represented football, while Amendola looked to put in a strong showing for the NFL.

The first challenge saw the stars face-off in ‘Foot darts’, an entertaining game which saw the players attempt to find the bullseye of a huge velcro darts board, with a velcro soccer ball.

Unsurprisingly, Lindelof got the better of his opponent in this one, as he found the bullseye with his third effort, although Amendola did put in a strong showing, and came close on a number of occasions.

The next trial saw the two players engage in a trivia challenge, and again the Swede came out on top, after he correctly identified what the acronym ‘NFL’ stands for.

However, both men were able to correctly name two top-flight sides in their opponent’s respective sports, as the wide-receiver picked Manchester United and Arsenal, while Lindelof named the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins.

The final challenge saw Lindelof and Amendola engage in a catching machine challenge, which the wide-receiver comfortably won, even managing to catch a ball fired at him at 100mph from a short distance away.

Mourinho: Lindelof Masih Butuh Waktu
Lucas Aditya - detikSport

Moskow - Bek baru Manchester United, Victor Lindelof, masih belum tampil oke.

Lucas Aditya - detikSport

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof brushes off concerns about relationship with Jose Mourinho and insists he feels 'no stress' despite slow start to life at Old Trafford

* Victor Lindelof has insisted he has a good relationship with boss Jose Mourinho
* The 23-year-old is yet to make his Premier League debut since his summer move
* Despite slow start to life at Manchester United he also insisted he isn't worried

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof insists he has a 'good dialogue' with boss Jose Mourinho despite a challenging start to life at Old Trafford.

The Sweden international, who signed from Benfica in the summer for a fee of £30million, is yet to make his Premier League bow.

Apart from two Champions League appearances and 90 minutes in an EFL Cup win over Burton, there have been little signs of trust from Mourinho.

The Portuguese boss previously said he is simply giving him time to adapt to his new surroundings as well as making the adjustments to fit into his style of play before throwing him into the first team.

And despite being limited to reduced first-team opportunities since his move north, the 23-year-old insists he is not worried about it.

Victor Lindelof has dismissed doubts about his relationship with manager Jose Mourinho. Lindelof is yet to play a Premier League game under Mourinho but said they are on good terms. He also insisted he feels 'no stress' despite making a slow start to life at Manchester United

He told Swedish outlet Expressen: 'I feel no stress. I'm in one of the world's best clubs, it's clear that it's tough competition. But it may have the time it takes.'

When pressed about what was said in discussions with Mourinho about his situation, the centre back added: 'It's between me and him. But we talk and have a good dialogue.'

Lindelof is currently away on international duty with Sweden and is targeting a spot in next year's World Cup.

Sweden first host Luxembourg before making the trip to Holland for their final qualifier next week.

They currently sit second, a point behind France in Group A of the European qualifying section.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof will make his mark at Old Trafford despite stuttering start insists his former Benfica boss Rui Vitoria

* Victor Lindelof has endured a stuttering start after moving to Manchester United
* Has struggled since move from Benfica who United face in Champions League
* Benfica boss Rui Vitoria has no doubt Lindelof will flourish under Jose Mourinho

Victor Lindelof has endured a stuttering start at Manchester United but Benfica manager Rui Vitoria has no doubt he will flourish under Jose Mourinho.

The Sweden centre-back had long been a target for United, who forked out an initial £30.75million to bring him in from the Portuguese champions during the summer.

Things have not started smoothly for Lindelof, though. Expected to go straight into Mourinho's starting line-up, the 23-year-old is being eased in due to the rigours and demands of Premier League football.

However, Benfica boss Vitoria is confident his former charge will come good at Old Trafford having seen him shine under his tutelage in Portugal.

'He is a very high quality player, he has been playing with Jose Mourinho,' Vitoria said ahead of facing the Swede in Wednesday's Champions League Group A encounter.

'Of course when you move from the Portuguese championship to an English championship, so there is a phase, a stage of adaptation.

'I do foresee that in the future Lindelof will be a player of Jose Mourinho's team. He has a lot of value, he is very cold, very competitive and ha as great deal of quality.'

Victor Lindelof horror show highlights just why Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho does not trust £31m signing

* Manchester United paid Benfica £31million for Victor Lindelof this summer
* But Jose Mourinho does not seem to trust him and has yet to start him in the PL
* Lindelof came off the bench to replace the injured Phil Jones at Huddersfield
* It was quickly apparent why Mourinho has reservations about the Swede
* Within 10 minutes of coming on, Lindelof made two errors that led to goals

Phil Jones thumped the ground in frustration. For him, a familiar tale. Just as that groove had returned, that presence in the heart of Manchester United's defence, his body failed him.

This time it appeared to be a thigh problem that forced him off 23 minutes into what ended up a chastening afternoon for Jose Mourinho. Jones has been a key component of United's sturdiness at the back.

Alongside John Stones, he is England's form centre half, enjoying his longest run of Premier League starts - 13 - since signing six years ago. The full extent of this latest setback is so far unknown but the way Jones instinctively motioned to come off does not bode particularly well.

Justifiably so. Within 10 minutes of replacing Jones with Victor Lindelof, United were 2-0 down

Nor did it for United, who felt his absence almost immediately. Only five minutes passed before his replacement, Victor Lindelof, had showcased just why Mourinho cannot trust him right now.

Lindelof is the £31million central defender who does not seem to fancy committing to tackles or heading footballs. One of his first involvements was to completely misjudge a situation on halfway which led to the opener.

Aaron Mooy, the eventual goalscorer, pounced on Juan Mata's indecisiveness but over-ran the ball. It was there to be mopped up but Lindelof, who looked overawed by the occasion, dithered and ended up jockeying for 40 yards before Mooy found the net.

Perhaps that mistake was on his mind because worse was to follow. Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl smacked a ball downfield in hope and Lindelof was right underneath it. Laurent Depoitre loitered, Lindelof inexplicably ducked. Depoitre scored.

A pair of embarrassing goals conceded by United in five minutes, having previously only giving up two in almost 11 hours in the Premier League with Jones manning the defence. Definitely no coincidence.

Aaron Mooy (right) gave Huddersfield the lead after Lindelof failed to beat him to a loose ball

Lindelof ducked out of a header moments later and was punished by Laurent Depoitre (left)

Lindelof, signed to move United on from the likes of Jones, endured a shaky pre-season tour of America and disappointed during the Super Cup final defeat by Real Madrid. He'd only played a minute in the Premier League before this. Yet Mourinho simply cannot legislate for these sort of errors.

United legend Paddy Crerand delivered a blow at half-time, saying they 'gave away two goals like you would see in a kids match,' and he was right. Yes, it is extremely early in Lindelof's career here and yes, there is a significant adjustment in coming from Benfica. But these are the basics and should raise serious concerns among Mourinho's coaching staff.

So too the injury situation. Mourinho said on Friday that he 'will not cry' about the ever-lengthening list of absentees but they are unquestionably hindering him. Eric Bailly will be back for the Tottenham game next Saturday and he will have to be based on Lindelof's display in the howling wind and swirling rain.

It was actually hard not to have a pang of sympathy for Chris Smalling, who had a fine afternoon in the Yorkshire damp. The 23-year-old next to him, however, has some work to do.

Quote:
A TALE OF TWO MISTAKES

MISTAKE 1: Lindelof made the wrong decision in not engaging with Aaron Mooy on the halfway line.

MISTAKE 2: Lindelof ducked out of the way of a long punt upfield and Laurent Depoitre cashed in.

Lindelof was awful at the John Smith's Stadium, where he looked anything but a £31m player

Victor Lindelof underlines importance of grinding out win over Brighton: 'We didn't play our best but we got the win'

* Victor Lindelof believes Manchester United's win over Brighton showed strength
* The Red Devils won 1-0 after Ashley Young's shot went in off Lewis Dunk
* Lindelof admits his side didn't play their best at Old Trafford on Saturday
* Jose Mourinho's side next two games are away trips to Watford and Arsenal

Manchester United's win against Brighton was not pretty but Victor Lindelof believes it was an important show of strength at the start of a crunch week.

Jose Mourinho's second-placed side began the weekend eight points behind runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City, so needed to keep pace when promoted Albion arrived at Old Trafford.

Chris Hughton's Seagulls threatened to cause an upset on their first visit to United since 1993, but the hosts secured a narrow 1-0 win after Ashley Young's strike went in off Lewis Dunk.

United were far from their best but Lindelof knows eking out victory was important ahead of the upcoming trips to Watford and Arsenal.

'It was a tough game,' the Sweden international said.

'We got the three points and that is the most important thing. We didn't play our best game today but we got the win and that shows strength.

'We tried to do our best out there, we tried to play our game but it didn't work out so good today.

'But we still got the win and that is the most important thing.'

Victor Lindelof admits Manchester United didn't play their best against Brighton on Saturday. The 23-year-old put in a man-of-the-match performance in his side's scrappy 1-0 win

Lindelof has struggled since his big-money summer move from Benfica, but the defender was one of few United players to impress on Saturday. The 23-year-old was named man of the match and his crunching second-half tackle on Anthony Knockaert brought the biggest cheer before the goal.

'I think it was a good challenge,' Lindelof said, smiling.

'It was a 50-50 ball and I just thought 'I have to win this ball' and I did.'

Promoted Brighton can justifiably feel hard done by given their impressive display. It brought Albion's five-match unbeaten run to an end but Glenn Murray is keeping positive ahead of Tuesday's derby clash against his former club Crystal Palace.

'I can't really remember one moment in the game where we were carved open and to only concede from a deflected shot is something to take a lot of positives from,' the striker said.

'We're getting better all the time and when we had the ball, we did well with it.'

Q&A: LINDELOF LOVING LIFE IN MANCHESTER

Victor Lindelof claimed a Man-of-the-Match award on Saturday and helped keep a clean sheet as Manchester United ran out 1-0 winners over Brighton, and the defender says he is feeling more and more comfortable every day.

The Swede is loving life as a Red since making the summer move from Benfica and is confident he's making good progress.

Before the match with Brighton, Lindelof sat down with United Review to discuss his time at the club so far, the return of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo, and why everyone is relishing the busy festive period...

Our home form has been outstanding this season hasn’t it and we set a new record after the win over Newcastle…
It gives us a lot of confidence when we play at Old Trafford and I think we have to keep that going and keep performing the way we have been doing. It’s our home and we have our fans behind us and that gives us a lot of strength.

There were some very big positives on top of the result against Newcastle with the return to the squad of Pogba, Ibra and Rojo – how much of a boost has that been for everyone?
They’re very good players and very important for us so it’s great to have them back. Paul started the game and showed his qualities right away. Zlatan came on with about 15 minutes left and he’s a fantastic player and very important as well for the team, both on the pitch and off it. They give us a lot of strength and it’s great to have all three of them back.

What quality of Paul's do you most admire?
It’s hard to pick one thing, he’s just a fantastic player and also such a nice guy. When he has the ball, the vision he shows and the things he can do with the ball are brilliant. It’s very important to have a player like that in the midfield who can create things from nowhere.

His goal celebration went down well. Is he the best dancer in the team?!
I think so! I think we have a few good dancers, but he’s one of the best! [Smiles]

Your fellow countryman Zlatan received a tremendous ovation when he made his return against Newcastle – how big is his presence in the dressing room as well as on the pitch?
He’s a very important player and has been at the top, top level for a very long time and has a lot of experience. You can learn a lot from him. When he speaks you listen and you try to learn as much as possible. The way he has come back from his injury has been incredible to watch and I’m very happy for him.

Does it help you personally having a fellow Swede in the dressing room?
It’s always nice to have a friend from Sweden and it’s great to have Zlatan here for me. I played a little bit with him for the national team but it’s different here because we see each other every day. He’s a very nice guy and he helps me a lot.

How do you feel you’ve settled in at the club?
It feels good. Every day that goes by I feel more and more comfortable here and I’m enjoying the city and meeting the people here too. Everyone around the club is very nice and my team-mates have been great. I really feel like I am getting to know the place better and better every day.

What have been the biggest changes to playing for Benfica?
Obviously, the league here is much tougher than Portugal. Over there, you have good teams but you have the top teams that are always the favourites in every game and winning almost every game. Here, it’s much more difficult and you have tough games every week – that’s the biggest the change, the competitiveness you have in the league.

The manager always speaks in a complimentary way about you - does that give you extra confidence?
Yes, it does and I like him a lot. He’s a very good coach, in my opinion, the best in the world and, for me to be able to work with him, is a pleasure. All of the staff and coaches as well, they are great and I am learning a lot from them. I’m just trying to do my best to work hard every day and listen to them because they know a lot about football, so it’s about listening and learning.

Zlatan's return adds to a pretty frightening forward line - how good are our attacking options and how enjoyable is it to sit behind them and watch them go?
They are world class. The things they can do with the ball and the speed and strength they have… it’s a joy to watch. We have fantastic players and it must be tough for the manager to pick a team because we have a very good squad and now with the players coming back from injury there is a really good depth to the squad. That’s really important now as we have a lot of games coming up.

We’re eight points behind City but there is still so long to go. Are you confident we can close the gap and continue to challenge for the title?
There are a lot of good teams in the league and we’re very confident we can do well. We just have to keep working hard every day and during the games we have to be really focused and do the things we know we can do.

Finally, there are so many matches coming up in the next few weeks, are you looking forward to showing what you can do and where the team can go?
Yes. The games are the most fun part of football. Training is fun also, but you play football to play the games, that’s the best part of it. We have a lot of games coming up and we have to be focused on the recovery between games so that the body can be 100 per cent ready. As I said before, we have a very good squad with a lot of depth and good players. We’ve made a good start in every competition, now we just want to keep on going and do our best.

Jose Mourinho praises defender Victor Lindelof after another 'positive' display for Manchester United against Watford

* Victor Lindelof singled out for praise following Manchester United's latest win
* Lindelof neutralised the threat from Richarlison during the 4-2 win over Watford
* Jose Mourinho praises the defender as well as goal-scorer Anthony Martial

Jose Mourinho once again singled out defender Victor Lindelof for special praise following Manchester United's victory at Watford on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils moved to within five points of leaders Manchester City courtesy of a 4-2 win at Vicarage Road but they had been cruising at the break.

Former Watford winger Ashley Young scored two stunning goals inside six minutes to break a scoring duck stretching back to May 2016 and, when Anthony Martial tucked home a third, the visitors looked home and hosed.

Instead, Watford hit back as substitute Troy Deeney converted a 77th-minute penalty before Abdoulaye Doucoure turned home to bring Marco Silva's side within one goal.

The points would be secured in style as Jesse Lingard scored a fantastic solo effort after running at the Watford defence.

Lindelof, 23, has started United's last three Premier League games following a slow start to life at Old Trafford following his big-money move from Benfica in the summer.

He was named man of the match in the 1-0 win over Brighton last weekend and did well to keep the likes of Andre Gray and Richarlison at bay for much of Tuesday's contest.

'I think Richarlison is a very good player and a difficult player to play against but Victor is very fast,' Mourinho told MUTV.

'He has adapted to play centrally but also to go to the sides because he's got the agility that many of the central defenders don't have.

'I think it was another very positive performance by Victor.'

Victor Lindelof put in another 'positive' display for Manchester United, says Jose Mourinho

Like Lindelof, Martial has established himself in the United side in recent weeks having been in and out of the team as he rotated with Marcus Rashford.

Mourinho was equally pleased with the France international's contribution at Watford - even if he believes there is still more to come from the former Monaco man.

'I am pleased,' he said of Martial's performance.

'I think he suffers a little bit with accumulation of matches. I could feel that in the second half he was going down and down and down.

'He's still a young guy and his body, his biological situation has space to improve but in the first half, during the time, he had strength and explosion in his legs. He was dangerous and scored an important goal.'

Doucoure, whose strike gave Watford hope of salvaging a famous point before Lingard's effort kept them at bay, admits lessons must be learnt ahead of Saturday's visit of Tottenham.

'To learn in these situations you have to take the positives,' he told watfordfc.com.

'We came back to 3-2 so it is good for the team and we come back against Tottenham and Saturday and play the same as we did in the second half and we can achieve some objectives.

'I think Spurs will come here like Man United, they are a very strong team with big players so we have to concede less goals to get a result against this type of team and of course we can do that on Saturday.

'You concede three goals in the first half against this kind of team and it is very hard to come back after.'

Default Re: Victor Lindelof

WHY LINDELOF WILL BE A FINE UNITED PLAYER

Former Manchester United player and popular MUTV analyst Bojan Djordjic is backing Victor Lindelof to shine at Old Trafford, having noted his Swedish compatriot’s recent development.

Lindelof replaced the injured Marcos Rojo at half-time in Sunday’s Manchester derby and produced an accomplished performance, showing admirable composure and good form in difficult circumstances.

It was his 13th appearance of a debut season that has involved challenges for the 23-year-old, who arrived from Benfica in the summer and has required time to acclimatise to English football.

Yet, in recent weeks, Lindelof has started to show his true quality with the Reds and that is no surprise to our former Academy graduate Djordjic, who knows the player extremely well.

“Victor did well against Manchester City and it gladdens me to say that, because he had a really tough start and, when you have a tough start, supporters get on your back,” Bojan explained during his appearance on The Paddy Crerand Show. “Certain fans did it after the mistake against Huddersfield - and I think they should take a look at themselves first because, if you are a supporter of this club, then you always support. You have to give new players a little bit of time and a chance to adapt.

“I would love to see Victor playing alongside Eric Bailly, who has been injured. I think he needs a leader beside him, somebody he can trust so he can spread the balls. To come on in the derby and do that well was great. I am happy to sit here as a Swede and talk well about his development."

Expanding on the topic, Bojan went on to list Lindelof’s burgeoning list of achievements in football and highlighted the period of education that the great Nemanja Vidic utilised upon his arrival in 2006.

“Some fans need to let a player settle in before they go on social media and slaughter players,” he said. “This guy plays for the Swedish national team, he won the league and cup at Benfica and he has just taken Sweden to the World Cup as well, so there is a player inside.

“Playing for Manchester United is totally different to anything else in football because, with one mistake, people just write you off straight away. So people have to look with their eyes a little bit and see his quality. Not only does he have a brain, he is very strong mentally as well to cope with this and he is going to get better, and better, and better. It took the great Nemanja Vidic to settle here, and Nemanja Vidic was a totally different player in style. Just give him time and he is going to be a fine player for the club.”
