Wayne Rooney says he and RVP are Really Very Pally at Manchester United

Rooney rebuffed the notion that tensions existed in their relationship as he responded to whispers that the Dutchman’s success last season in plundering 30 goals had put his nose out of joint and was a factor in him seeking to leave United for Chelsea during the summer.

Rooney refused to discuss that transfer saga after reaching 200 goals for the club in the 4-2 Champions League victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, but was more forthcoming about his partnership with Van Persie, which has already yielded six goals this term.

Asked if one of the strikers held seniority over the other, Rooney said: “No. I have seen things said over the summer, but Robin and me are friends off the pitch.

“There is no problem between me and Robin at all. We are great friends and we want to help each other and be successful.

“The manager has made it clear that he wants one up and one behind and, whatever way round that is, it doesn’t matter to me as long as one is always filling in behind and helping out the midfield.

“We have done the work together and the times we played together last season we did well so, hopefully, we can play more together this season and do well.”

Comments from United manager David Moyes earlier this summer were taken out of context, implying that Rooney would serve as back-up to Van Persie.

Moyes’ actions have pushed Rooney into the spotlight for the duo to deliver the goals that will underpin United’s pursuit of honours.

Rooney believes the partnership will operate differently to when Cristiano Ronaldo was at Old Trafford, but can see it bearing fruit.

“Cristiano always played out wide most games and I was on the other side out wide,” he said.

“We were both playing off the front man [Dimitar Berbatov]. This is different with Robin. We dovetail well and try to help each other score goals.”

It was not simply Rooney’s goals – and a gilt-edged miss – that caught the eye against Leverkusen, but his work-rate and attitude in the tie.

There appears to remain some lingering unease with United following a saga that was sparked by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s comments before he stepped down that Rooney had wanted to leave. Yet his willingness to knuckle down has been obvious and brought him a standing ovation when he was substituted on Tuesday as Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time leading scorer record of 249 goals came further into view.

Rooney said: “I feel good. I’ve had some good training in the last few weeks.

“It has been stop-start with the injuries, but I have just kept my head down and worked hard and now I’ve played and got some goals. I’ve tried to do everything right. I have tried to show the right attitude. I have always felt that’s a really important thing to do. That’s paying off for me on the pitch. I feel fit and ready to do well.

“The training is a bit different under the new manager. I remember it from Everton. It’s more intense. That’s helping me. I am glad to be out playing.

“He’s a great manager and thoroughly deserves this job because of what he did at Everton. It’s good to work under him and, hopefully, be successful together.”

Moyes had challenged Rooney to put his name in lights alongside Charlton when he was trying to convince him to stay and the striker said: “Obviously those conversations [with the manager] are private, but I knew it anyway.

“To be edging closer to it is great for me and the most important thing for me was to get back playing and get among the goals.

IMO, semenjak duet Cole - Yorke beberapa tahun silam, United kehilangan duet striker yang saling melengkapi satu sama lain. Semenjak era Cole - Yorke, United (era SAF lebih akrab dengan posisi striker tunggal dalam diri van Nistelrooy). Setelah era RvN berlalu, duet Rooney - Saha gak terlalu berhasil, demikian berlanjut dengan duet Rooney - Tevez. Duet Rooney - Berbatov juga gak terlalu menggigit, hingga tiba jaman duet antara Rooney - RvP.

Di musim pertama duet mereka, RvP berhasil mengoleksi 30 gol, Rooney hanya 16 gol. Masalah terjadi karena Rooney merasa ada saingan dll, sehingga musim lalu rolling striker malahan sering terjadi sehingga tidak ada duet permanen.

Musim baru 13/14 pun di mulai seiring dengan era baru di tangan David Moyes, Saat CS RvP di duetkan dengan Welbeck, alhasil RvP mencetak 2 gol namun sumbangsih Welbeck sbg partner RvP belum maksimal. Lanjut lawan Swansea duet RvP - Welbeck menghasilkan 4 gol, masing- masing cetak 2 gol. Lawan Chelsea RvP mulai berduet dgn Rooney, sayang keduanya plus Welbeck gak mencetak gol. Lawan Pool duet RvP - Welbeck kembali main, sayang United kalah. Kemudian lawan Palace duet Rooney - RvP menemukan bentuk permainan mereka, masing- masing cetak 1 gol plus assist, dilanjutkan saat lawan Leverkusen, Rooney cetak 2 gol, RvP 1.

Mungkin terlalu dini menilai partnership striker United saat ini dalam diri Rooney - van Persie tapi ane baca dalam beberapa artikel, David De Gea, Carrick hingga David Moyes memuji penampilan mereka berdua hingga melihat progres yang ada, mungkin saja duet mereka berdua bisa saja melewati rekor duet Cole - Yorke yang hingga saat ini masih mencatatkan duet mereka sebagai duet terbaik. Semenjak Cole - Yorke berduet di musim 98/99 hingga 00/01 catatan rekor gol mereka:
Musim 98/99: Cole 24 & Yorke 29
Musim 99/00: Cole 22 & Yorke 24
musim 00/01:Cole 13 & Yorke 12.

Nistelrooy dulu kan main sendirian di depan, Solskjaer, Saha & Forlan jarang di duetkan dengan RvN. Kalau mau lebih belakang duet Hughes - McClair, Cantona- McClair (OGS) juga kayanya gak sebaik duet Cole - Yorke. Nah, mari berharap duet Rooney & van Persie bisa jadi duet striker terbaik United, setidaknya di mulai dari musim ini. Musim sebelumnya mereka belum sehati jadi maklum saja. seperti kata Rooney dalam artikel di atas:

Mungkin saja dimusim ini wayne dan robin akan menemukan kombinasi yang pas, dengan melepas ego mereka masing-masing sehingga mampu menjadi tumpuan klub untuk menciptakan banyak gol dan juga menjadi momok yang mengerikan bagi tim lain.

Sebenarnya pembahasan ini sudah ada sejak musim kemarin. Yap, duet Rooney dan RvP. Namun pada pembahasan musim kemarin yg pernah ane liat di espn, disitu bukan menilai dari banyaknya gol yg mereka berdua lesatkan ke gawang lawan. Namun, kerjasama antara Rooney dan RvP yg memberikan keuntungan lebih ke tim.

Kalau dilihat dari musim kemarin, memang RvP yg lebih banyak finishing. Tapi, Rooney juga menunjukkan assistnya musim kemarin yg lebih kalau g salah? kayaknya sih iya deh *CMIIW

Cuman tinggal menunggu waktu saja kok IMHO. Kalau menurut ane, yg dilihat dari partnership ya assist mereka berdua (bukan gol). Karna pasti kalau mereka saling memahami dan mampu lebih ke assist, tak khayal gol pun tercipta.

tapi perlu di garis bawahi juga duet cole & Yorke jadi hebat selain kerja sama mereka yang saling mengisi satu sama lain, mereka juga di manjakan oleh umpan & dukungan dari lini tengah yang menurut ane sangat hebat di waktu itu (terutama dari sayap kanan melalui DB7)

apakah lini tengah sekarang ini bisa membantu/mendukung untuk Rooney & RVP jadi duet striker terbaik United ???
