Re: Gary Neville

Gary Neville is under increasing pressure as Valencia edge closer to relegation places… so can he turn it around with the kids?

* Gary Neville has endured a difficult start to his time as Valencia boss
* Valencia have recorded just two wins since Neville took charge
* The former Manchester United defender has asked for patience from fans
* The 40-year-old has ruled out any big spending during the January window

Gary Neville will be the first to remind us that you CAN win something with kids.

But with his young Valencia team he has now gone five league games without a win and supporters are starting to question why there seems to be no intention of bringing in some much needed experience in the January transfer window.

It was a sad day for them on Sunday because the club finally lost its status as ‘Spain’s third club’ in the historic La Liga table that tots up the points tallies of every club since the beginning of the competition.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscikb6p0k.jpg
Gary Neville is under pressure after a poor start to his managerial career with Spanish giants Valencia

Valencia started this season in third - 20 points ahead of Atletico Madrid - but at the weekend their defeat by Real Sociedad and Diego Simeone’s side winning meant they dropped to fourth in the all-time points ranking.

Of more pressing urgency is the fact that they are now closer to the relegation places than the Champions League.

Neville is not being blamed for it at the moment. The supporters are disillusioned with an absent owner and a president who they consider not to be a football person and the absence of a sporting director.

Neville has cheered the supporters up with a dynamic positive approach. They have warmed to his enthusiasm but the results have not yet arrived to back up the positive vibes.

He set the bar high when he took over citing top four, the Europa League and the Copa del Rey as the aim.

He also told the Valencia supporters they had every right to be demanding because their club was a big one.

Quote:

GARY NEVILLE'S VALENCIA STATS

Played: 8

Won: 2

Drawn: 3

Lost: 3
But after five league games in charge he will not need to be told that no wins in those five matches is not good enough.

It has not all been doom and gloom. Fate saw fit to make him the opposing manager who ended Rafa Benitez' reign at Real Madrid and that 2-2 draw was a performance that promised much.

But when, in the next league meeting, he was pitted against Sociedad and the big summer signing that David Moyes banked his San Sebastian future on, Jonathas, the forward scored twice and it was back to the drawing board.

Jonathas’ form arrived too late to save Moyes but bang on time to punish Neville. It was his second league defeat since taking over – that and three draws leave him with three points from 15.

The fixtures have not been easy. Away to Villarreal, home to Real Madrid and away to Eibar, who are in European places having been the revelation team of the season, were all very tough games.

But Getafe at home and Sociedad away were gentler fixtures and Neville would have expected a better return.

Return is what he needs certain key squad members to do as quickly as possible. The quicker Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Alves is fit to start games the better but after a serious knee injury he still looks around three weeks away.

Algerian winger Sofiane Feghouli is another who can’t come back soon enough. He could feature before the end of the month. But other sides have injuries – Real Sociedad were without their top scorer Imanol Agirretxe at the weekend but still beat Valencia – so the excuse only goes so far; and in fairness to Neville it is not one he is leaning on.

Neither is he talking about reinforcements – something that the Valencia supporters cannot understand. He has made it clear that he has come to work with the players who are already at the club. He despises the culture of – ‘this lot are no good, so we will buy some more’. Supporters and local press are a little bemused, however, at the club’s stance.

Other teams will add reinforcements so why aren’t Valencia? Atletico Madrid have brought in quality midfielders Augusto Fernandez and Matias Kranevitter and they are top of the league. Valencia’s need is greater.

The squad is fragile. Key defenders Shkodran Mustafi and Jose Gaya have been unable to stay fit and Enzo Perez started his first league game for Neville in the league at the weekend only to fail to finish it with more injury problems.

This is a squad that is fighting on three fronts, or at least will be when the Europa League returns. It lacks leadership and experience. Nicolas Otamendi is still being sorely missed in the centre of defence. And when Neville looks around at the rest of his players there is no-one making themselves heard or standing up to lead.

This is one of the youngest squads in La Liga. The front four starting on Sunday – Santi Mina, Rodrigo, Paco Alcacer and Rodrigo De Paul – are 20, 24, 22 and 21 respectively, the captain Dani Parejo is only 26, and there was no one over 30 in the team.

Neville called for patience after the latest defeat and he will get it from supporters who are still very much on his side. They just can’t understand why the club can’t find the resources in this transfer window to make his job a little bit easier.

Re: Gary Neville

Gary Neville draws positives from another lacklustre Valencia display... but manager blasts 'incredibly disappointing' first half

* Valencia were held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-threatened Rayo Vallecano
* Striker Paco Alcacer grabbed late equaliser for Gary Neville's men at home
* Boss praised side's ability to bounce back after coming from behind twice
* The Manchester United legend blasted the team's first-half performance

Gary Neville praised his Valencia side's ability to bounce back after coming from behind twice to scrape a 2-2 draw with Rayo Vallecano, but blasted their 'incredibly disappointing' first half.

Valencia managed just three shots in the opening 45 minutes against struggling Rayo, who took an early lead through Jozabed.

Alvaro Negredo equalised for Los Che in the second half with a stunning strike from 50 yards out but Rayo restored their lead when Diego Llorente was granted too much space to fire home following a corner.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...psuiiqiaak.jpg
Gary Neville praised his Valencia side's ability to bounce back after scraping a 2-2 draw with Rayo Vallecano

Valencia secured the point their performance scarcely deserved as Paco Alcacer levelled late on, minutes after an earlier effort from the same player had been wrongly disallowed for offside.

'The first half I find difficult to explain, it was an incredibly disappointing performance,' Neville told reporters at a press conference.

'I said at half-time that for me football is about joy. Of course you have to win but you have to enjoy the experience, you have to have expression, and in the first half we didn't show anything.

'But there are two positives I can take, which is the response in the second half and that players have demonstrated again and again that they have spirit to come back in games they haven't done well in.'

This fightback was the fourth time Valencia have taken a point after going behind in Neville's six league games in charge, and he said that showed that his team did not lack leaders, as local media have suggested.

'People will say there's no spirit and no fight. But teams don't come back from losing positions unless they've got fighting spirit,' he said.

'If there was no response I'd be concerned, but I see response after response. We did it against Getafe, Eibar, Real Madrid and today, and that counts for a lot. Leadership is showing fighting spirit when the game is against you. When you're 2-0 down, 1-0 down, you have to show leadership characteristics to fight back.'

Neville was also careful not to criticise the decision to rule out Alcacer's effort before the Spain international finally levelled because of his team's overall display.

'The goal was onside but it wouldn't be right for me to talk about a disallowed goal,' he said. 'You've seen the game, and Rayo's coach will be disappointed with the result.'

Valencia's supporters booed the players off the pitch at half-time, but Neville believes their reaction may have helped his side come out stronger after the break.

'At any football ground fans have the absolute right to express themselves any way they want. The fans here are fantastic, they are passionate, and you heard them still singing in the second half,' he said.

'There's no way I can criticise them for some boos at half-time. In terms of the effect it has, today it had a positive effect because we played a lot better in the second than in the first half.'

And although Neville is still searching for a first league win since succeeding Nuno Espirito Santo in December, he insisted he was not disheartened by their form.

He added: 'My confidence in myself is fine, the confidence in terms of the work we're doing is good. I agree the results are not what I wanted or the club or the fans expect. It's taking time to change to get to a level I want. It's not for a lack of effort from the players. They ran a million miles to get the game back. The work I'm doing here I believe in and the players believe in it.'

Re: Gary Neville

Valencia boss Gary Neville avoiding blame as winless run continues at Mestalla

* Valencia drew with Rayo Vallecano 2-2 at the Mestalla on Sunday
* Gary Neville is yet to win a La Liga game since taking charge of the club
* Former pundit called a meeting ahead of Thursday's Copa del Rey clash

The Mestalla Messiah is struggling to turn the water into wine at Valencia, but for the moment Gary Neville is not being blamed for his failure to work any miracles in his first two months on the job.

The Valencia coach held a half-hour meeting with his players on Monday morning as he tried to lift them for Thursday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final and eradicate the mistakes that meant they have still not won a league game since he took charge on December 13.

That run of draws and defeats should have come to an end on Sunday. If the referee had not wrongly ruled out the first of two late Paco Alcacer goals then Valencia would have taken all three points. But ‘would haves, could haves and might have beens’ don’t usually buy a manager much time at Mestalla.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...psn4kax75u.jpg
Gary Neville is yet to win a league game in charge of Valencia but is not being blamed for the poor run

Neville still has credit in the bank in part due to the way he has handled himself during his first two months in the job, and partly because the job done by his predecessor is still being blamed for most of Valencia’s woes.

Neville didn’t hide behind the linesman’s mistake after the game on Sunday and instead admitted that the first half performance had been unacceptable – that honesty mixed with a positivity has helped his relationship with the supporters.

Aided by a 7-0 aggregate cup win over Granada in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey, he has been feisty and positive and that is the way the 44,000 supporters who packed into Mestalla on Sunday like their managers.

On the pitch the players have ran for the new boss and spirited draws against both Barcelona [When Gary was in the stands having just arrived and brother Phil was in the technical area] and Real Madrid, have suggested there is more to come from what is a very young group of players.

But the league table makes dismal reading and what is really saving him from greater criticism at the moment is that there is a queue of people lining up to be blamed for Valencia being closer to the dropzone than the European places and he is some way down the line.

Head of the queue is still the previous coach and the pre-season comings and goings that supporters believe left the team without a midfield enforcer with the authority to run a game, and a centre-back capable of dominating a rival attack and organising the men around him.

Valencia’s run without a win in the league at home goes back to November 1 and the Champions League campaign shambles also pre-dates Neville’s arrival. Nuno Espirito Santo was unpopular with the supporters and many of the underperforming players are seen as very much his recruits.

Neville could do with couple of his own signings but with just two weeks left of the window only a new Sporting Director, Jesus Pitarch, has come in. His arrival may herald signings before the deadline closes in two weeks. The club spent the first fortnight of the window talking down the idea that new players would arrive but the tune has changed slightly over the last couple of days.

If no new players come in then the owner Peter Lim could move to the front of the blame queue. He saved the club when he bought it in 2014 but supporters believe unless he begins to invest more heavily it will continue to lose value fast. Regular Champions League football has been factored into the calculations for the next three seasons. The club can’t afford the 15m euro hole that failure to qualify for Europe can make in the budget. A little spending now might result in a far bigger loss at the end of the season.

Regardless of what they do or don’t do in the transfer market there is no intention of making another managerial change. Rafa Benitez might have been lauded by fans when Real Madrid visited in the last game before he was sacked but he is happy to be back in England where he wants to take his next job and has got no intention of returning to Spain.

Neville did receive some good news from Monday’s session. Jose Gaya trained well and should be back for Thursday’s first leg against Las Palmas. Midfielder Enzo Perez also has a chance of playing and Algerian winger Sofiane Feghouli is getting closer to full match fitness.

Re: Gary Neville

Gary Neville Nyatakan Tak Akan Mundur Usai Valencia Dihancurkan Barca
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detikSport

http://images.detik.com/content/2016...jpg?w=500&q=90

Meylan Fredy Ismawan - detikSport

Re: Gary Neville

Nasib bener nih Neville, kalah lagi tadi, kasian makin banyak tekanan terutama dari suporter Valencia.

Valencia manager Gary Neville has said that he will continue to have belief in himself despite seeing his side fail to win for the eighth league game in a row under his leadership.

Valencia were beaten 1-0 by Real Betis on Sunday and it means they have now gone 12 games in a row without a win, nearly the worst run in the club’s history.

Gary Neville's La Liga record as Valencia manager:
DDLDLDDLL
Goals: 8
Conceded: 13
Wins: 0
Clean sheets: 0

After the game yet again Neville was asked by journalists about whether or not he was going to resign after yet another poor game.
Neville was defiant as you would expect, saying that he will continue to work hard and believe in himself and his methods.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CaoKulwW8AAypbX.jpg

Neville: "I continue to work, I continue to have belief and conversations between me and the owners stay between us"

Management continues to be a struggle for Neville although this Valencia side is in dire need of reshaping and most seem to accept it isn’t all Neville’s fault.

However he hasn’t really been able to turn it around at all and the fact that his side are still regularly conceding first has to be a worry for him.

Sudah Tahu Bedanya Jadi Komentator dan Jadi Pelatih, Gary?

Meylan Fredy Ismawan - detikSport

http://images.detik.com/content/2016...jpg?w=500&q=90

Modena - Gary Neville dianggap sukses saat masih bekerja sebagai komentator sepakbola, tapi dia kesulitan begitu dipercaya melatih sebuah klub. Hernan Crespo mengaku senang melihat Neville kesulitan.

Villas-Boas marah atas komentar Neville yang menyerang pemain-pemain The Blues.
