Reds must be proud of fans

Real Madrid legend Emilio Butragueno thinks Manchester United should be proud of the club's fans after experiencing the special atmosphere in the recent Champions League tie.

The man who was a deadly striker in his day, nicknamed 'The Vulture', was full of praise for the Old Trafford supporters in an exclusive interview with ManUtd.com and acknowledges that it was a very difficult tie for the Spanish giants.

"It was amazing," he said of the atmosphere. "I think you must be very proud of your fans and the fans have to be very proud of the team really.

"We know that winning here is really difficult for any team and we realised why the other day. It really was a very intense tie and very even but, finally, we were able to get through.

"To win here was always going to be very, very difficult because United are a great team. Even when you were 2-1 down with 10 men, you played very well in the last 15 minutes and we had to face many difficulties in qualifying."

Real Madrid progressed 3-2 on aggregate, not without controversy following the dismissal of Nani, and can look ahead to the quarter-final draw.

"We are going to be in the draw in Geneva and we will see what is going to happen," Butragueno told ManUtd.com.

"The final is too far off. First of all, we have to prepare very well for the quarter-final and then we'll see. In football, you have to be focused on the next game as the rest doesn't matter. Everything changes very rapidly in football. You have to be alert as every detail is important. "That is the magic of football - that you never know what is going to happen.

"It's the most prestigious club competition in the world. Of course, now we have the Copa del Rey final but in La Liga, we are 13 points behind Barcelona so it's going to be very difficult for us. In the Champions League, all of a sudden, we are there in the quarter-finals and will do our best in a fantastic competition."

The Premier League leaders have played on the same grass for six years, but will need to replace it at the end of the season after it became boggy over the Christmas period

Manchester United will spend £500,000 this summer to relay their worn-out Old Trafford pitch.

Sir Alex Ferguson has requested new grass after the current turf became sunken and boggy during the course of the season, particularly over the Christmas period.

United have already spent around £500,000 in recent years trying to keep their existing pitch in good shape, including patchwork repairs over the last few months.

A hybrid pitch, made up of synthetics and grass, will be installed by Dutch company Desso the day after United's final home match of the campaign against Swansea on May 12 and will take two-and-a-half months to bed in.

Desso are a market leader and have provided the current pitch at Wembley as well as Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham.

The high stands at Old Trafford prevent a large amount of sun access and groundsman Tony Sinclair has been using sun lamps on the pitch at every opportunity.

But Ferguson recently criticised the quality of the surface, saying that it was too heavy for midfielder Darren Fletcher to play on as he battles back to fitness after a chronic bowel condition.

"The pitches over the last few weeks have not suited Darren," Ferguson said in January. "They are really heavy pitches. Unfortunately, Old Trafford seems to have collapsed in the last two weeks.

"We have had six great years out of the pitch. Our groundsman, Tony Sinclair, has done a fantastic job. But it is looking tired now and I think we will have a new pitch in the summer."

A football fan is set to make £20,000 after finding two copies of the 'Holy Grail' of Manchester United programmes in his attic. Keith Hames, from Hyde near Manchester, uncovered a pair of mint condition 'United Review' programmes for the game against Wolves postponed in the wake of the 1958 Munich Air Disaster.

All but a handful of copies of the 12-page programme for the First Division fixture at Old Trafford were pulped as news of the tragic events in Germany rocked the football world.

It is therefore among the rarest of United programmes - with pristine copies commanding as much as £10,000 at auction.

Manchester - Robin van Persie, Michael Carrick, dan Rafael da Silva boleh dibilang sebagai pemain yang menonjol di Manchester United musim ini. Mereka dijagokan menjadi pemain terbaik The Red Devils.

Sejak datang dari Arsenal ke MU di awal musim 2012-2013, Van Persie langsung memberikan konntribusi maksimal. Pemain timnas Belanda itu menjadi striker tersubur di tim 'Setan Merah' dengan koleksi 19 gol dalam 26 laga di Premier League.

Bergeser ke lini tengah, Carrick seperti tak tergantikan pada musim ini. Dia hampir selalu menjadi pilihan utama Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sejauh Liga Inggris berjalan 29 laga, Carrick mendapatkan kepercayaan bermain sebanyak 26 kali dengan sumbangan tiga assist.

Sementara itu di posisi defender, Rafael tampil cukup impresif di sisi kanan pertahanan MU. Pemain 22 tahun asal Brasil itu cuma absen tujuh kali dari laga yang dimainkan oleh tim asal kota Manchester itu di Liga Inggris.

Tak hanya bermain baik saat bertahan, Rafael juga bagus saat membantu serangan. Hal itu terbukti dengan tiga gol dan tiga assist yang sudah dia bukukan.

Mantan penggawa MU, Bryan Robson, yang melihat performa konsiten ketiga pemain itu tak ragu untuk menjagokan Van Persie, Carrick, dan juga Rafael, menjadi kandidat peraih anugerah pemain terbaik klub musim ini.

"Jelas bahwa cara Robin van Persie datang ke klub dari Arsenal dan cara bermain yang dia tunjukan membuatnya menjadi kandidat kuat. Tapi, saya percaya bahwa Michael Carrick dan Rafael, kedua pemain itu sangat dekat dengannya," terang Robson di Fox Sport Asia.

"Michael menjalani musim yang luar biasa dan itu tampak dari pilihan Sir Alex (Ferguson) yang telah memainkannya dalam sebagian besar pertandingan MU. Dia adalah pemain yang sangat pintar dan dia sudah menjalani musim ini dengan luar biasa."

"Rafael sudah benar-benar berkembang dan memiliki musim yang sangat luar biasa sejauh ini, jadi menurut saya (penghargaan) ini cukup dekat di antara ketiganya," tambah pria yang pernah menjadi pelatih timnas Thailand itu.

* kualitas RVP gak usah diragukan, kalo gak ngapain opa ngotot mo beli dia. status top skor musim lalul jadi bukti. kalo RVP yg dapat yah gak heran
* kayaknya Rafael menjadi pemain yg mengalami peningkatan paling pesat musim ini IMO
* Carrick gak terlalu dibicarakan karena 'bekerja dibelakang layar', yah kayak Xavi/Iniesta di Barca, Messi yg selalu jadi 'headline'
ketiganya layak jadi pemain terbaik musim ini

Sepakat deh om, status 3 pemain tsb di musim ini emang bagus banget. RvP pemain bintangnya, Rafael pemain paling berkembang, dan Carrick pemain kunci yang underrated.

Tp IMO Carrick mungkin lebih mirip Busquets kali ya ketimbang Xavi/Iniesta.. karna Xavi/Iniesta masih sering jadi headline dan sorotan media juga aside Messi. Tp doesn't matter lah mirip2 sapa, hehe.. Tp saya pribadi sih lebih memilih Carrick sebagai pemain terbaik MU musim ini, walopun nampaknya gelar tsb bakal jatuh kepada RvP :D

Eks Direktur Manchester United Ditunjuk Jadi Petinggi FA

Bola.net - Salah satu mantan direktur klub Manchester United, Greg Dyke ditunjuk untuk menjabat salah satu posisi di Football Association.

Dyke akan memulai masa tugasnya, dengan menggantikan posisi pimpinan yang saat ini masih diduduki David Bernstein. Nama terakhir rencananya bakal lengser pada bulan Juli mendatang, setelah bekerja selama dua setengah tahun terakhir.

Penunjukan Dyke sendiri bakal dimulai pada 13 Juli yang akan datang. Akan tetapi penunjukan ini sudah mulai memancing reaksi publik sepakbola Inggris, hanya karena latar belakang pria 65 tahun tersebut.

Pasalnya, Dyke memang pernah populer sebagai direktur di Old Trafford pada akhir tahun 90an. Saat ini, ia menjabat sebagai direktur non-eksekutif klub Brentford. Posisi itu ia duduki sejak tahun 2006, dan akan dilepasnya pada akhir musim ini.

Akan tetapi Dyke mengaku jika dirinya bakal bersikap netral, kendati baru saja mendapat posisi anyar di kursi FA. Ia juga menegaskan bakal melepas jabatannya di Brentford pada akhir musim.

"Tentu sebagai pimpinan FA, penting bagi saya untuk bertindak netral. Kemudian hal ini juga berarti bahwa saya bakal melepaskan jabatan saya saat ini, sebagai pimpinan Brentford yang bakal saya rindukan," tutur Dyke.

Selain menjadi salah satu petinggi di klub Brentford, Dyke juga bekerja sebagai direktur umum di kantor berita BBC, serta menjabat sebagai direktur manajer salah satu televisi Inggris, London Weekend Tele. (mtr/atg)

Pemain terbaik? Jangan lupa de Gea.

Iya, ane sepaham dan sepakat dgn bro Zulfan. Melihat jasa- jasa De Gea disepanjang musim ini sulit untuk melupakan De Gea dalam nominasi pemain terbaik di United untuk musim ini.. Ditambah De Gea, akan ada pilihan yang sulit untuk menentukan pemain terbaik musim ini. Keempatnya bagus, siapapun yang menang gak akan menurunkan kualitas pemain yang lain.
