Manchester United bond issue falls flat
Manchester United's £500 million bond, the centrepiece of the club's recent refinancing, has become one of the worst performing issues of the year.

The bond was fully subscribed, enabling the club to slightly reduce its debt-servicing costs and enjoy greater flexibility on future spending plans.

But investors have been left nursing paper losses which could make it hard for United to return to the bond market in the future, according to the Financial Times.

The bid price of Manchester United's £250 million of sterling-denominated bonds has dipped to 93 per cent of face value while those denominated in dollars (425 million) were on offer for 94.5 per cent of face value.

Bankers and analysts said the decline reflected over-pricing at the launch and the lack of a credit rating.

"In a benign credit market, Manchester United is one of the worst performing bonds since the beginning of 2009," Suki Mann, a credit strategist at Societe Generale told the FT.

The bond issued by United has proved unpopular with fans because of controversial provisions contained in the prospectus.

These include the possibility of United's Old Trafford stadium and Carrington training ground being sold and then leased back to the club, as well as authorising the transfer of funds from United's reserves to the club's parent company, Red Football Joint Venture Ltd.

The most recent accounts for Red Football, owned by the US-based Glazer family, showed that it had debts of £719 million, including over £200 million owed to hedge funds in the form of 'payment in kind (PIK)' notes on which the interest rate now exceeds 16 per cent.

United's chief executive David Gill said at the weekend he was "100 per cent convinced" the sale and leaseback of Old Trafford and Carrington would never happen and stressed that the Glazers, not the club, were responsible for repaying the PIK notes.

Gill also insisted that the club's finances were not preventing United manager Sir Alex Ferguson from strengthening his squad, as many fans suspect.

Manchester United mendapatkan sponsor baru.

Namun, anda jangan salah perkiraan.

http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/201...8/0311592p.jpg

"Jika suporter tak mau membeli tiket, maka bisnis pemilik klub benar-benar goyang.

(MRR)

Manchester United Mortgaged Old Trafford - Report
Stadium used as security in recent bond issue...
By Zack Wilson
Feb 11, 2010 11:56:00 AM

Manchester United included their Old Trafford ground as security in their recent bond issue that raised over £500 million in order to refinance old debt at the club.

Bloomberg reports that the stadium had been secured against a loan that has now been replaced by the new bond.

Documents filed at Companies House indicate that the Red Devils took out the mortgage on January 29 with JP Morgan Europe.

Club revenues and sponsorship deals were also used to provide additional security.

Red Football Joint Ventures Limited, United's parent company, recorded debts of £716.5 million in the year ending June 2009, with net interest for the same period totalling £68.5m.

Keith Harris: We're ready to buy Manchester United from the Glazers

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/...01_468x400.jpg

City banker Keith Harris is confident funds can be raised to buy the Glazer family out of their ownership of Manchester United by the end of the season - but it all depends on the Americans being willing to sell.

Harris, the chairman of Seymour Pierce who has engineered buy-outs of Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City in recent years, has backed the fans' green-and- gold-rebellion, arguing that the Glazers' business plan is unsustainable.

He is understood to have backers ready to fund a buy-out, which would satisfy the majority of United fans, who currently wear the green-and-gold colours of the club's original incarnation, Newton Heath, as a protest against the Glazers.

But fans must also show they can hurt the Glazers by boycotting seasonticket sales in the summer. It remains to be seen how many will, and if they do, whether others will replace them.

Sources close to the club say that because the Glazers have forced up season-ticket prices, there is currently no waiting list.

While a buy-out envisaged by Harris would not achieve the dream of a supporter-owned club, his backers plan to model their approach to the fans on that of Randy Lerner at Villa, an American owner who is revered on the terraces.

It will cost more than £1billion to buy out the Glazers, who bought the club for £831million in 2005.

Harris has accused them of running down the image of the club, saying recently: 'I'm a huge United fan, but the Glazers are playing with an icon of football, one of the most respected in the world, and it is in danger.'
