Re: [LC] Manchester United vs West Ham United

Manchester United players who must return to line-up vs West Ham

Man Utd have a crucial fixture vs West Ham in the EFL Cup and Anthony Martial is one player deserving of a return to the line-up.

Jose Mourinho will have to make at least one change to the Manchester United side for their re-match against West Ham with Paul Pogba suspended, but Sunday's encounter at Everton could convince him to make more alterations for the EFL Cup quarter-final.

Marouane Fellaini is also banned for the game, while the need for Michael Carrick in Premier League fixtures was re-emphasised in the weekend draw with The Hammers.

Here are five players who should return to the line-up on Wednesday night:

Daley Blind

Jesse Lingard ahead of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial in the stands, Memphis on the bench over Mkhitaryan and overlooking Carrick are some of Mourinho's more dubious decisions but Matteo Darmian's status as the first-choice left-back might be the most mystifying.

Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and even Marcos Rojo are all superior alternatives. Darmian looked uneasy there again whenever Michail Antonio hurtled at him and the Italian's crummy crossing has contributed to United's problems on the flank.

Be it at centre-back or left-back, Blind invariably enhances United's defence and his introduction for Darmian against Arsenal bolstered the attack, too. Carrick did not play as withdrawn and Ander Herrera was pushed forward as United claimed the breakthrough in another period of play which underlined Blind's unsung hero status.

Luke Shaw

The left-back appeared to disembark United's coach but there was no sign of Shaw in the directors' box at the weekend. One of the introverts who have suffered under Mourinho's management, Shaw has appeared out of sorts since Mourinho singled him out at Watford in September and, in truth, has not performed productively enough to reclaim his place permanently since he returned from injury.

Ability is not the issue, though. If Shaw plays for an uninterrupted period under a manager who has faith in him he will develop into a world-class defender. United supporters must only hope it happens at Old Trafford.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

The 18-year-old signed a new contract earlier this season but has been restricted to a disappointing four appearances and no other outfield player has appeared on fewer occasions.

Fosu-Mensah's two starts were at right-back but his cameos against Fenerbahce and Swansea came from his preferred position of midfield.

Pogba and Fellaini are suspended and, given how costly it was playing Carrick in the Europa League last week, Mourinho should perhaps ready the 35-year-old for the Premier League trip to Everton on Sunday.

Herrera could be beside Fosu-Mensah to mentor him, an authoritative role he has relished in under a manager who completely trusts him.

Anthony Martial

Another reticent character who has joined the faction of publicly criticised players, Martial did little to win over his manager when he pulled out of a challenge in the first-half against Arsenal earlier this month.

Despite that show of timidity, Martial - like Shaw - is a potential world-class player. He has played no worse than Marcus Rashford, who has earned plenty of reprieves in recent months, and the Frenchman showed immense confidence to rebel against the robotic coaching of Louis van Gaal and captivate audiences last season.

Rashford has not taken his chances of late but seems to be pining for a central role. Martial received the No.11 shirt in the hope he would remain on the left flank.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The midfield Armenian was treated to a chorus of his catchy chant as he warmed up on Sunday and he almost rewarded the Stretford End with a second-half winner, only to be foiled by the upright.

Mkhitaryan was bought to strengthen United's attack and the only way he will do that is if he is granted a consistent run in the side. He was exceptional against Feyenoord and it was a travesty he was dropped for West Ham's weekend visit.

yuk di tebak di tebak :peace:
