VOTE FOR UNITED'S AUGUST GOAL OF THE MONTH

Our first Goal of the Month poll of the 2016/17 season shines the spotlight on several of Manchester United’s rising stars.

In fact, five of the eight strikes on our shortlist were scored at Reserves or Academy level, including fine efforts by Angel Gomes, who was still 15 when he hit a hat-trick against Everton on Saturday, and 16-year-old Nishan Burkart, who netted after impressive work by Indy Boonen in the same game.

Demi Mitchell’s brilliant late lob to defeat Leicester City’s Under-23s is nominated, as are Boonen’s angled finish against Liverpool Under-18s and Callum Gribbin’s wonderful solo goal against Barcelona in the Otten Cup.

United’s first team is represented, almost inevitably, by Zlatan Ibrahmovic, who blasted home a low drive at Bournemouth and headed in superbly against Southampton, while Jesse Lingard’s memorable individual goal in the Community Shield against Leicester City rounds off the list.

Vote for United's Player of the Month

After careful consideration, we have selected our three-man shortlist for Manchester United's first Player of the Month award for 2016/17.

The Reds won all four competitive games in August, starting with the Community Shield triumph over Leicester City before reeling off three consecutive victories in the Premier League.

There have been a number of excellent performers for Jose Mourinho's side but this is your chance to vote for August's star man.

Eric Bailly: 4 appearances, 3 Man-of-the-Match awards
The Ivory Coast international has enjoyed a remarkable start to life in Manchester, already earning cult status among the fans for a series of no-nonsense displays. The centre-back has provided athleticism, aggression and assurance and is an outstanding contender for the trophy.

Daley Blind: 4 appearances
Calmness personified in the middle alongside Bailly, the Dutchman has barely put a foot wrong all season. Not only can he start attacks with his precise passing but he has handled any opposition breaks with real confidence and quality and has been one of the team's stand-out individuals.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: 4 appearances, 4 goals, 1 Man-of-the-Match award
The Scandinavian striker has hit the ground running at United, heading the winner in the Community Shield and following it up with a sweet strike on his Premier League debut at Bournemouth. He bagged two more against Southampton and led the line with his usual blend of grace and power at Hull.

BAILLY IS UNITED'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Eric Bailly is the convincing winner of Manchester United's first Player of the Month award for the new season.

The Ivory Coast international has made an instant impact at Old Trafford and earned the Man-of-the-Match accolade in three of the Reds' four games last month, only missing out when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was star man in the 2-0 win over Southampton.

Thousands of supporters cast their votes on Twitter and ManUtd.com with the 22-year-old beating off competition from fellow summer signing Ibrahimovic (37 per cent) and his defensive partner Daley Blind (8 per cent) to land the trophy with 55 per cent of the overall tally.

Bailly told MUTV recently: "The Man-of-the-Match awards are something I hadn’t thought about but I got them through the hard work I have put in. I hope to see more of that in the weeks ahead of us."

Lingard wins Goal of the Month award

Jesse Lingard’s eye-catching individual strike in the Community Shield win over Leicester City has been voted Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for August.



The forward embarked on a lightning dart into the Foxes' half at Wembley, dribbling past three markers before slotting past Kasper Schmeichel to open the scoring in a game the Reds went on to win 2-1.

Lingard's contribution attracted 56 per cent of the votes in ManUtd.com’s poll to finish ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s powerful maiden strike for the club, away to Bournemouth (13 per cent), and another dazzling solo effort - Callum Gribbin's goalfor a United Under-19 side against Barcelona in the Otten Cup (10 per cent). It’s time for you to help decide who should be crowned Manchester United’s Player of the Month for September, a period which ended on a high with three consecutive wins for the Reds after three earlier defeats. Here are the nominees…



Ander Herrera: 4 appearances, 1 goal
A key figure in United’s second-half revival against Manchester City after coming off the bench, Ander was also instrumental in the EFL Cup win at Northampton Town, where he capped his all-action midfield display with a fine goal to further stake his claim for one of Jose Mourinho’s two midfield spots.


Zlatan Ibrahimovic: 6 appearances, 2 goals, 1 Man-of-the-Match award
It’s back-to-back monthly award nominations at the start of his United spell for the Swede, who scored twice in September – an expertly-taken finish in the derby defeat and a headed winner against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League. Despite turning 35 on Monday, the forward is the only player to have featured in all the Reds’ games so far this term.


Marcus Rashford: 6 appearances, 3 goals
The 18-year-old continues to impress when given his chance by Mourinho, either up front or in a wider attacking role, and he was the Reds’ top scorer over the month after finding the net against Watford, Northampton (where he was praised by the boss for his attitude in chasing down Herrera’s long ball) and Leicester City.
