Manchester United coach Mark Dempsey 'stable' after being rushed to hospital overnight in Australia on eve of club's first game of pre-season tour

* Mark Dempsey is recovering in hospital after being taking ill at hotel in Perth
* Reports in Australia are claiming that the male is now in a stable condition

Manchester United coach Mark Dempsey is 'in a stable condition' having been rushed to hospital in Perth.

United are currently on a pre-season tour of Australia and are due to play Perth Glory on Saturday.

Australian news channel 9 News reported that a male in his 50s was taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital from the Crown Towers hotel, where the United squad are based. The Sun later reported that it was Dempsey.

Mark Dempsey, according to The Sun, is the Man United coach who was rushed to hospital

He was seen arriving at the hospital under heavy security around 3pm local time on Friday, with his face hidden behind a sheet as he was wheeled in, as seen in the footage by 7 News.

Further reports in Australia then emerged claiming that the male is now stable, although Royal Perth Hospital are yet to officially confirm his condition.

A source told The Sun: 'Everyone is in a state of shock. He's a very popular member of the backroom team. He's obviously 10,000 miles from his loved ones, which makes it even worse.'

Dempsey's wife, at home in Lancashire, told The Sun she had spoken to her husband.

She said: 'So everything is fine. I've just spoken to him now.

'He's still in hospital but maybe he'll be released in the morning. They're keeping him in for observation. He's on a drip because he's dehydrated.'

Dempsey was on United's books as a player between 1982 and 1986. Most recently he had been managing in Scandinavia before returning to Old Trafford as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's backroom team.

Solskjaer's side arrived in Perth for the start of their pre-season tour on Monday and hosted an open training session at the WACA on Thursday night.

An earlier United statement read: 'A member of our backroom staff was taken ill overnight and has been sent to hospital by our club doctor for further treatment.

'We request that medical confidentiality is respected.'

United will take on local side Perth Glory at the Optus Stadium in a friendly on Saturday and then face Leeds, before the tour continues on to Singapore and China.

It was confirmed that Dempsey was not on the team bus as United headed to the ground on Saturday.
