Manchester United 'weigh up move for Atalanta winger Amad Traore but NOT as an alternative to Jadon Sancho' as the 18-year-old has played only 30 minutes in Serie A so far in his career

Manchester United are weighing up a move for winger Amad Traore from Atalanta, according to reports.

The 18-year-old made his debut for the Serie A side last season and was part of the club's Champions League squad for their quarter-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Manchester Evening News, United have contacted the Italians amid competition from other clubs but the youngster is not seen as an alternative to Jadon Sancho.

The report claims Italian sources believe the right-sided will not come cheap, despite his playing time in Serie A amounting to just 30 minutes.

But his first taste of senior football was certainly memorable. Traore became the youngest player, at 17 years and 109 days old, to score on his league debut in Atalanta's 7-1 thrashing of Udinese.

The winger picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch and drove forward before unleashing a 20-yard strike to past the opposition's goalkeeper.

He has made just two further appearances since his debut but was a regular for Atalanta's Under 19 team, contributing seven goals and 11 assists in 24 games.

Unsurprisingly, Traore has attracted interest from elsewhere with Manchester City, Arsenal and Juventus among his admirers. He has also been heavily linked with a loan move to Parma.

United are looking to make more additions to their squad after signing midfielder Donny van de Beek earlier this month.

Sancho, the club's main target, played in Borussia Dortmund's 5-0 win over MSV Duisburg in the German Cup on Monday.

United made a breakthrough in talks over the forward's wages and agents' fees but the Bundesliga side are still holding out for a £108million fee - which the Red Devils want to bring down.

Sportsmail revealed on Friday that United are also considering a move for Real Madrid's Gareth Bale but the club have fallen behind Tottenham in the race for the Welshman's signature.
