Default Re: United Injury News 2015/16

Manchester United duo Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo back in training to ease injury crisis ahead of Europa League clash

* Manchester United have 16 players out injured for Europa League last-32, second-leg clash with Midtjylland
* Louis van Gaal's side trail 2-1 going into the second leg at Old Trafford after defeat in Denmark last week
* But United are boosted by the return to training of Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia on Wednesday
* They joined a squad of 20 including several youngsters preparing for the must-win Europa League tie

Manchester United's defensive injury crisis is showing signs of easing after Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo returned to training on Wednesday.

Valencia has not played since October after undergoing foot surgery while Rojo has been out since November with a dislocated shoulder.

Neither player is likely to start against Midtjylland in the Europa League at Old Trafford on Thursday, but it is a timely boost for Louis van Gaal who saw his injury list grow to 16 following Monday's FA Cup win at Shrewsbury.

Goalkeeper David de Gea is unlikely to return for the second leg against the Danish champions after he did not train, and captain Chris Smalling was a notable absentee.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Will Keane were also missing after limping off against Shrewsbury, but Jesse Lingard trained despite also picking up an injury late in that game.

Van Gaal had said that De Gea could return against Midtjylland after injuring his knee in the warm-up before United lost 2-1 in Denmark last week, but the Spaniard is now more likely to be in contention for Arsenal on Sunday.

Sergio Romero has performed well in De Gea's absence, emerging as United's best player in the first leg despite conceding twice, and he then kept a clean sheet at Shrewsbury.

Smalling would be a bigger concern if he is not fit. The England defender has been a constant among the many defensive changes in recent months, so United fans must hope that his absence from training was merely a precaution.
