Default Re: United Injury News 2015/16

Manchester United set to be without Bastian Schweinsteiger for a further four weeks as he continues to recover from a knee injury

* Bastian Schweinsteiger has been out since January 9 with a knee injury
* Midfielder's recovery is now expected to keep him out until end of March
* Germany star is spending time with his tennis star girlfriend Ana Ivanovic
* Louis van Gaal has spoken of his concerns over player's performances

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger faces another four weeks on the sidelines before he can return from a knee injury.

The Germany midfielder has not played since United's FA Cup win over Sheffield United on January 9, missing the last nine games, and has recently been watching his tennis star girlfriend Ana Ivanovic play in the Dubai Duty Free Championships.

It could be the end of March before Schweinsteiger is fit to rejoin Louis van Gaal's squad and finish what has been a disappointing debut season at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old has struggled for form and fitness since signing for United in a £14million deal from Bayern Munich last summer

However, Bayern boss Pep Guardiola quickly cast doubt over the wisdom of the move by claiming that Schweinsteiger had not been fit for his last three years in Munich, having made just 15 appearances in his last season at the club.

And Van Gaal, who worked with Schweinsteiger at Bayern between 2009-11, echoed that sentiment after substituting the World Cup winner in United's Champions League defeat by Wolfsburg in December.

He said: 'He wants to play at the highest level, especially in Germany, to show his qualities, but I can't say he was the Bastian Schweinsteiger I saw during my Bayern Munich days.'

The veteran midfielder has added to a chronic injury list of United players, with up to 14 members of Van Gaal's first-team squad missing from Thursday night's Europa League clash with Midtjylland at Old Trafford.

There is light at the end of the tunnel for the United boss though, with Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia returning to training on Wednesday and Phil Jones believed to be a week away from being available after an ankle injury.
