Default Re: Man United U-23 Matches 2016/17

Pereira sepertinya perlu lebih fokus menjaga gawang United nih..

RESERVES: UNITED 1 MAN CITY 3

Premier League 2 | Leigh Sports Village | Scorers: Goss 57 | Diaz 51, Buckley-Ricketts 60, Fernandes 71

Manchester United lost the Reserves derby 3-1 to City after being reduced to 10 men early on when Regan Poole was sent off.

Despite holding out until half-time, Brahim Diaz handed the Blues the lead and, although Sean Goss levelled, Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and Paolo Fernandes ensured victory for a team managed by ex-Red Simon Davies.

Soon after a break forward by Matthew Olosunde, it was always going to be an uphill battle for the hosts once Poole was dismissed after only 13 minutes. Referee Anthony Backhouse deemed the Welshman's tackle a two-footed one on Fernandes and, although there was not too much contact with the City man, the Blues' no.10 did take a blow to his right foot and hopped away from the incident.

Backhouse explained his decision to Poole and, following the red card, Nicky Butt replaced Callum Gribbin with Sadiq El Fitouri and moved Goss into a back three alongside Axel Tuanzebe and Olosunde. City almost broke through on 21 minutes when Diaz's brilliant dribble to the edge of the box ended with a shot that flicked Joel Pereira's right-hand post on its way behind.

Diaz was fed inside the box for another chance that forced a fine stop out of Pereira, in his first game back after a loan spell with Belenenses, as he blocked with his legs. With Goss using his intelligence to good effect in his new role and the visitors passing with little penetration, United managed to hold on with that Pereira stop from Diaz the only shot on target in the first half.

The Reds were understandably limited as an attacking force and there were a few nervous moments as half-time approached, particularly when Jadon Sancho worked a one-two and prodded towards Pereira's near post, only for the keeper to stick out a foot and get a key touch to divert it for a corner.

It took City only six minutes to score following the restart, though, as Fernandes got away on the left, tricked Olosunde with a clever dummy and cut the ball back for Diaz to slip a precise finish into the bottom corner of the net.

Olosunde was forced into a vital clearance when United were down to nine men as Demi Mitchell received treatment but a first real United attack of any note since the red card yielded an equaliser. The move started with a Pereira header outside his box before Josh Harrop fed Mitchell on the left. The full-back's skill took him into a position to lay the ball back for Goss, who supplied a perfect side-footed finish.

Parity was only restored for three minutes, however, as the home side lost the ball in attack and were hit by a swift counter, as Fernandes broke. Diaz was stopped by a superb Pereira save in a one-on-one situation, only for Buckley-Ricketts to fire through two players on the line with the rebound.

Goss tested Angus Gunn after showing some neat footwork inside the box but the game was beyond Nicky Butt's side when Olosunde was dispossessed by Fernandes on the edge of his own box and the Spaniard showed no mercy by rifling a third past Pereira.

Harrop drifted a shot wide and Matty Willock drilled off target from a promising position as there was a glimpse of what might have been had the Reds had a full complement of players. However, Sancho hit a post in the closing stages and Butt's side need to recover quickly in next Monday's trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.

United: J. Pereira; Olosunde (Warren 82), Poole, Tuanzebe, Mitchell; Goss, Willock; Gribbin (El Fitouri 18), Redmond (Kehinde 76), Harrop; McTominay. Subs not used: O'Hara, Scott.
