Default Re: [EPL] Burnley vs Manchester United

MATCH PREVIEW : BURNLEY V UNITED

Any early team news? The Reds could be without Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic after both players were substituted against Anderlecht on Thursday through injury, with Mourinho admitting afterwards he didn't feel good about them but would wait until tests are completed before discovering more. United will definitely be without injured trio Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Juan Mata but Wayne Rooney is fit again. Burnley will wait on the availability of Joey Barton while Johann Berg Gudmundsson looks set to miss out.

What happened in the previous meeting? The Reds were left hugely frustrated after being held to a goalless draw by the Clarets when the sides met at Old Trafford at the end of October. United dominated throughout and struck the woodwork twice through Ibrahimovic and Mata, while former Academy graduate Tom Heaton produced an outstanding display in the Burnley goal to earn his team their first away point of the campaign.

How have we fared against the Clarets in the past? Well, United will be hoping it will be third time lucky at Turf Moor this weekend, having failed to win on our two previous visits in the Premier League, after a 1-0 defeat in 2009 and goalless draw in 2014. Overall, the Reds have won two of the sides' five top-flight meetings, which were both comfortable victories at home – 3-0 in 2010 and 3-1 in 2015.

Any former Reds in the Burnley squad? Yes, there will be two familiar faces to Reds fans who will line up for the Clarets on Sunday. Experienced keeper Heaton came through the ranks at Old Trafford but didn’t make a first-team appearance for United. Highly-rated centre-back Michael Keane, who has scored twice this season, made five League Cup outings in four years with the Reds. Both have been called up by England recently and will hope to put in a good performance against their former club.

Who's the man in the middle? Anthony Taylor is the referee for Sunday's game, as the Cheshire-based official taking charge of his fifth United game of the season. The 38-year-old has issued 156 yellow cards and sent off four players in 40 games in all competitions so far. He will be assisted by Jake Collin and Peter Kirkup, while Lee Mason is the fourth official.
