Default Re: [2019/2020] United Player and Goal of the Month

JAMES STRIKE IS OUR GOAL OF THE MONTH

Daniel James has won Manchester United’s Goal of the Month award for August, as voted for by supporters on the Official App.

The Wales international - who had two nominations for the prize - scooped the accolade for his superb effort against Southampton on the final day of the month.

Picking up the ball on the left flank, our no.21 used Juan Mata’s run as a decoy, cut onto his favoured right foot and unleashed a bullet of a strike past the helpless Saints keeper Angus Gunn.

Want to see it again? Then here’s a video of the phenomenal goal which opened the scoring at St Mary’s:

That goal was one of eight impressive finishes on our shortlist but almost half of our voters - 48 per cent - picked James’s piledriver as the best of the lot in August.

Our summer signing even clinched second place, for his precise effort in the previous weekend's fixture, at home to Crystal Palace, which received 24 per cent of the votes. Marcus Rashford's goal in the 4-0 rout over Chelsea finished third in the poll with nine per cent.

The Goal of the Month award caps a great few weeks for James, who made his competitive debut for the Reds in the Chelsea victory, bagged three goals in his first four games and was also named as our Player of the Month for August.

WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THE GOAL

Our fans aren’t the only ones who celebrated that strike. Here’s how a few other Reds reacted...

Juan Mata: “It was a very good goal, a fantastic finish. He’s a very hard-working player. I’m very happy for him and hopefully he can do it many more times.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “We know his qualities and, coming in off the left, he’s got a good strike in him. It was a great goal and he runs in behind and creates spaces for other players around him. I’m delighted for the boy, he’s come in and really made an impact for us. He deserves all his success. Three goals from three starts and one sub appearance isn’t bad for a young boy.”
