Luke Shaw's injury leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeing red after he vented his anger at the congested fixture list, with Manchester United defender facing a month out

Manchester United are furious after Luke Shaw was ruled out for a month with the hamstring injury he suffered at Everton last weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer vented his frustration over the fixture schedule after United were given a lunchtime kick-off at Goodison Park on Saturday having only arrived back from a Champions League game in Istanbul in the early hours of Thursday morning.

And Solskjaer's anger was compounded when United confirmed that Shaw will be sidelined for four weeks after he was injured along with Marcus Rashford and Victor Lindelof in the 3-1 win.

The 25-year-old defender, who has started every Premier League and Champions League match for United this season, is now set to miss games against West Brom, Southampton and West Ham, as well as all three remaining Group H fixtures against Istanbul Basaksehir, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.

Solskjaer revealed at the weekend that United tried unsuccessfully to move the Everton game to ease the burden on his team.

'How can you expect players to perform to the best of their ability when you send them out at 12.30pm? Absolute joke,' he said.

'A month ago we tried to move this game. What sense is there for us to play on a Saturday when we could play on the Sunday and there is an international break afterwards?

United's Marcus Rashford and Victor Lindelof have also been sidelined due to injuries

'I can't say enough how hard these times are for everyone, not just footballers, and we want to see football with quality.

'Our players were set up to fail today with the schedule. I pushed my club to really fight the kick-off time on this one to give us at least half a chance, but it was quashed.'

New signing Alex Telles, who has been in quarantine following a positive Covid test, will be available to replace Shaw at left back after the international break and United can also call on Brandon Williams.

Rashford sustained a shoulder injury, but should be fit to play for England when the Nations League resumes this weekend. Lindelof also aggravated a back problem.
