Default Re: Man United U-23 Matches 2016/17

Manchester United U23 3-2 Tottenham U23: Jose Mourinho watches on as Josh Harrop's hat-trick earns hosts win

* Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho watched from the stands on Monday
* The Portuguese manager would have been impressed by Josh Harrop
* The 21-year-old midfielder scored a hat-trick for the hosts' U23s at Old Trafford
* Jaden Brown and Samuel Shashoua were on the scoresheet for Tottenham U23s

Josh Harrop could be the latest Manchester United prospect at the forefront of Jose Mourinho's mind after shining in front of the Portuguese boss on Monday night.

The 21-year-old midfielder scored a hat-trick for United's Under 23s as they beat Tottenham 3-2 in their Premier League 2 - which was watched by Mourinho.

The Red Devils was among those in the stands at Old Trafford as he watched on with members of his coaching staff - including assistant boss Rui Faria.

Mourinho was seen sharing a joke with colleagues during the game and he would have been in an even brighter mood come full-time at the performance of Harrop and his team-mates.

The rain-soaked matchended the Premier League 2 season and was rearranged due to the tragic death of Spurs coach Ugo Ehiogu last month.

After a positive showing from Tottenham, it was United who took the lead through a moment of quality from Harrop.

Collecting a pass from Matthew Olosunde, who rode two challenges along the way, Harrop bent a beautiful drive from outside the penalty area and past the visitors' goalkeeper Tyrell Warren.

Spurs continued to dominate proceedings but found themselves down 1-0 at half-time.

However, the north London outfit equalised just two minutes after the interval thanks to Jaden Brown who rifled home Tariq Hinds' cross at the far post.

The game turned completely on its head on 50 minutes as Shilow Tracey ran through an exposed United defence before playing in Samuel Shashoua to finish past Joel Pereira.

Pereira, who will start in goal for the first-team against Crystal Palace on Sunday denied Spurs from extending their lead further with two crucial stops from Shashoua and Tracey.

The visitors were made to pay for those two misses as neat build-up play by Harrop and Joshua Bohui saw the latter level matters. Harrop's smart finish from 12 yards was completed by a wonderful drag-back to lose two defenders.

And with just three minutes remaining of normal time, Harrop's night became more memorable with the matchwinning goal.

Substitute DJ Buffonge and Bohui created an opening that allowed Harrop to burst through three defenders before slamming home.

The win moves United up to sixth spot in the final Premier League 2 table, while Spurs only avoided relegation on goal difference.

And Harrop completed his hat-trick with this finish as United U23s ended this season on a high
