Following the news that Ryan Giggs is to retire from playing, ManUtd.com has compiled a gallery of defining photos to span the legend's incredible career at Old Trafford.

Given he is the club's most decorated player (and now the new assistant manager), this was no easy task - but we've managed to assemble some iconic Giggs images that depict his illustrious career as a player.

Dating back to his breakthrough year of 1991, the gallery takes in milestones, trophies and goals galore, as well as his short stint as interim boss at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

1991: A momentous year as Ryan Giggs makes his first-team breakthrough.
