Manchester United's 1998-99 treble winners are voted the greatest team of the Premier League era, beating Arsenal's Invincibles to the title... with Liverpool's 2018-19 side deemed the UNLUCKIEST

* Man United's '99 side have been voted the best team of the Premier League era
* They won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in a stunning year
* The Red Devils saw off competition from Arsenal's 2003-04 Invincibles side
* Results came from a survey with over 1,000 fans answering a series of questions

Manchester United's 1998-99 treble-winning side have seen off competition from Arsenal's Invincibles to be voted the greatest team of the Premier League era.

The Manchester City side who claimed a record tally of 100 points in the 2017-18 campaign came third, while the Invincibles side shared second place with Liverpool's 2019-20 title-winning team.

The results come from a survey conducted by Betfair in collaboration with YouGov, with over 1,000 football fans answering a series of questions ahead of the 30th Premier League season, which kicks off on Friday.

United, guided by Sir Alex Ferguson, were the dominant force in England in the 90s following the inception of the Premier League in 1992, winning five of seven campaigns before the millennium came to a close.

The Red Devils would go on to win an astonishing 13 Premier League titles in Ferguson's 26-year period in charge of the Manchester club, but it was his 1998-99 side that will live long in the memory of fans of top-flight English football.

With their squad littered with world class talent, including the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, David Beckham and Andy Cole, United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League within a remarkable 11-day period.

First came the Premier League, which United sealed in the most dramatic of circumstances.

It was Arsenal's to lose with two games remaining, but a 1-0 defeat in their penultimate outing handed the initiative to United.

Quote:
Greatest teams in the Premier League era

1) Manchester United 1998-99: 19%

2) Arsenal 2003-04: 15%

3) Manchester City 2017-18: 9%

4) Manchester United 2008-09: 8%

5) Leicester 2016-17: 7%
Despite falling 1-0 behind to Tottenham, goals from Beckham and Cole sealed an historic turnaround for United, who finished one point ahead of an Arsenal side who also won on the final day, against Aston Villa.

United would then beat Newcastle 2-0 in the FA Cup final, before sealing another dramatic victory, this time over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, with Teddy Sherringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both scoring in injury time to overturn a 1-0 deficit.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side claimed the FA Cup in 1999 after beating Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley. United sealed the treble with a stunning comeback win over Bayern in the Champions League

The 1998-99 Red Devils side took victory in the recent survey as they secured 19 per cent of the votes, with Arsene Wenger's 2003-04 Invincibles team - who remained unbeaten while amassing 90 points throughout the campaign - and Liverpool's 2019-20 title-winning side joint-second with 15 per cent.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola's stunning 2017-18 side secured just nine per cent of the votes, despite holding records for the most points (100), away points (50), away wins (16), goals scored (106), goal difference (79), and consecutive wins (19) in a single campaign.

Also included in the survey was a question regarding the unluckiest teams of the Premier League era, with Liverpool's 2018-19 side coming out on top.

Jurgen Klopp's side amassed a stunning 97 points and won 30 of 38 games, losing just one match, but finished runners-up to Manchester City. No team has ever claimed as many points or wins without being crowned champions.

Liverpool beat Middlesbrough's 1996-97 side - who lost the FA Cup and League Cup finals and were also relegated after being deducted points - to the unwanted title.

Tottenham's 2005-06 side, who were pipped to a top-four place by Arsenal on the final day of the season with a number of players spending the night prior vomiting - later branded 'lasagna-gate' - finished third.

Of course, the tables have turned since, with Tottenham beating Arsenal to a Champions League place last season and looking strong under Antonio Conte.

Liverpool were again beaten to the Premier League title last season, however, with another fierce battle to start on Friday.

Thierry Henry is voted the GREATEST player of the Premier League era... as the Arsenal legend beats Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah to the award
Thierry Henry was voted the Premier League's greatest ever player in fan survey

* Frenchman beat Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo to the award
* All-time Premier League top scorer Alan Sheared rounded up the top three
* Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah finished inside the top 10 of the voting

Thierry Henry has been voted as the Premier League's greatest ever player by a survey of football fans.

Betfair conducted a survey with YouGov and asked over 1,000 football fans to decide the best player of the Premier League era ahead of the competition's 30th anniversary.

Arsenal legend Henry pipped the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah to clinch the award, with the Frenchman earning 15% of the vote.

The former striker netted 175 goals in 258 Premier League appearances and spearheaded the Gunners to two league titles - including the much-heralded invincible season in 2003-04.

Thierry Henry was voted as the greatest player of the Premier League era in a survey of fans

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo finished in second place, with the 45-54 age group voting for the Portuguese international more than any other player.

Ronaldo has scored 102 goals in 226 top-flight outings and lifted three successive Premier League titles with the Red Devils from 2006 to 2009.

Premier League all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer came third, while Eric Cantona and Steven Gerrard made up the rest of the top five.

The legendary striker notched 260 Premier League strikes during a glistening career and scored over 50 goals more than second-place all time top scorer Wayne Rooney (208).

Aston Villa manager and former Liverpool captain Gerrard finished in fifth place and received over double of Mohamed Salah's votes among Reds fans.

The Egptian international came seventh in the voting after scoring a remarkable 156 goals in 254 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Yet there is a feeling that Salah may finish higher at the end of his career after recently signing a long-term deal at Anfield.

Aside from Ronaldo and Salah, the only other active player inside the top 20 of the voting was Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne.

The midfielder finished in eighth place and has inspired the Citizens to four of the last five Premier League titles. And the Belgian will be hoping to increase his tally, as City start their title defence against West Ham on Sunday.

Liverpool snatches bitter rivals Man United's crown to become the MOST popular Premier League club in the US... while Newcastle beat Tottenham into the 'Big Six' with American fans

* Around three in five Premier League fans have a 'favorable' opinion of Liverpool
* Manchester United had topped a poll in 2019 but is now second to its old rivals
* 2022 champions Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal rounded out the top five
* Tottenham Hotspur missed out on sixth place to Saudi-owned Newcastle United

Following its success in the domestic cups last season, Liverpool can now boast another accolade after topping US soccer fans' list as the most popular Premier League club.

Manchester United had long been the most popular club, not only in the UK and US but also the world, but the Reds have now snatched its crown.

As the new season got underway last weekend, about three in five self-identified Premier League fans said they had either a 'very favorable' or 'somewhat favorable' opinion of Liverpool, according to Morning Consult's survey.

Liverpool beat rivals to be the most popular Premier League club among soccer fans in the US. Liverpool's trophy-winning charge led by Mohamed Salah has boosted their popularity

Meanwhile, 21 percent - roughly 1 in 5 - of adults in the US had the same opinion, which was the highest of any club.

United had topped a 2019 poll but Liverpool's form in recent years has seen the side burst onto the scene.

The Reds' trophy-winning charge, led by manager Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah and Co, has seen them add a Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and FIFA Club World Cup to their cabinet.

This blockbuster emergence could have contributed to Liverpool's popularity among younger and newer audiences.

Manchester United topped a poll in 2019 but the Reds have now snatched the crown

Despite being narrowly pipped by their bitter rivals in the US, United can take some consolation in the fact it still has second place nailed down with 60 percent of fans finding it 'favorable' or 'somewhat favorable'.

Three other clubs in the league's 'Big Six' - Manchester City (59 percent), Chelsea (57 percent) and then Arsenal (54 percent) - rounded out the top five.

However, Tottenham finished up seventh behind Newcastle United with 44 percent of fans saying they have a favorable opinion of Spurs, 10 percent down from north London rivals Arsenal and narrowly beaten by the Magpies with 45 percent.

City has dominated the top-flight in recent years, winning four Premier League titles in five years and, along with Chelsea and Arsenal, has sought to bolster their exposure stateside as the trio all embarked on preseason tours of the US this summer.

Chelsea was taken over by American businessman and co-owner of the LA Dodgers Todd Boehly earlier this year, which could also improve the west London club's popularity over on the West coast.

Brighton and Hove Albion, who was promoted to the English top-flight in 2017, came in as the least popular among Premier League fans with only 28 percent having a favorable opinion of the Seagulls.

However, more recently promoted sides gained more favor. Roughly 1 in 3 Premier League fans had a favorable opinion of Fulham, who beat out fellow newcomers Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

But Forest were the most popular of the trio among US adults with one in 10 having a favorable opinion of the team.

Manchester United's wage bill soars to £385MILLION despite their worst season in over 30 years... and Red Devils are surpassed by arch rivals Liverpool in revenue for the first time in Premier League history

* Man United's wage bill is £385million despite their worst campaign last season
* Their revenues have been surpassed by Liverpool for first time in over 30 years
* Reigning champions Manchester City topped the table with revenues of £608m
* Total Premier League revenues are expected to reach a record high of £5.4billion

Manchester United’s wage bill has soared to almost £400million despite the club posting its worst-ever points total of the Premier League era.

The Old Trafford club are expected to post financial accounts showing that they paid players £385m last season, when they finished sixth with 58 points - their fewest since 1991.

United’s revenues have also been surpassed by Liverpool for the first time since the introduction of the Premier League, according to financial experts.

Football finance analysts Off The Pitch Revenues have estimated that revenues at Anfield will reach a club-record £602.1million last season – £20.7m higher than United’s predicted revenues of £581.4m.

Liverpool’s revenues should climb dramatically after winning a domestic double, finishing runners-up in the Premier League and reaching the Champions League final.

By comparison, United failed to qualify for the Champions League last season and have gone five years since lifting a major trophy, the Europa League in 2017.

Manchester United’s wage bill has soared to almost £400million despite their poor season. United's revenues have been surpassed by Liverpool after they won two trophies last season. Reigning Premier League champions Man City topped the table with revenues of £608m

Premier League clubs have yet to post accounts covering last season, but Off The Pitch have drawn up a set of predictions for the accounting year to June 2021. Their conclusions are based on the officially reported Premier League, FA and UEFA payments as well as sponsorship deals, wages and other figures cited by trusted sources.

The report predicted that Manchester United’s revenues - historically the largest in England - have slipped to third in the Premier League. Champions Manchester City topped the table with revenues of £608m.

Total Premier League revenues are expected to reach a record high of £5.4billion, up by almost £250m compared to pre-Covid figures in 2018/19, which was the previous all-time high.

Accounting firm Deloitte this week estimated revenues will hit £6bn this year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

Deloitte’s Tim Bridge said: ‘If you look at the revenue generated by the clubs, the message is overarchingly positive in terms of how they’ve come through the pandemic.’

Manchester City claimed £153MILLION in prize money after winning the Premier League last season... while Norwich became the first side to earn more than £100m despite finishing bottom in 2021-22

* Man City won the Premier League for fourth time in five seasons in 2021-22
* They therefore earned the most of any of the 20 clubs in merit payments
* Norwich made history by earning £100m after finishing bottom of the table
* Newcastle and Spurs also made more money than teams above them in table

The Premier League have revealed champions Manchester City won a staggering £153million in prize money last season.

Pep Guardiola's men won their fourth title in five seasons in 2021-22 after a dramatic final day which saw them come from two goals down to beat Aston Villa and pip Liverpool to the crown.

Finishing first saw City earn a UK merit payment - which is divided according to final league position - of nearly £34m as well as a further £7m internationally.

However, their facility fees - paid out every time a Premier League club appears in a live televised game - amounted to nearly £1m fewer than Jurgen Klopp's men, though their UK merit payment was nearly £2m higher than the Reds.

Premier League champions Man City won a staggering £153million in prize money last season

While the top of the table sees some eye-watering figures paid out to City and Liverpool, the Premier League also made history at the bottom end of the table in 2021-22.

Norwich - who won just five top-flight matches, lost 26 and who conceded 84 goals last season - became the first team in the league's history to earn £100m in prize money despite finishing bottom of the table.

They earned the same facility fees as the other two teams who joined them in being relegated to the Championship - Burnley and Watford - but their domestic and international merit payments were not as high due to their final position.

Norwich became the first team to earn £100m in prize money despite finishing bottom

There were also instances where teams earned more than those who finished above them, due again to facility fees.

The standout example saw 11th-placed Newcastle take away more than £126.7m in prize money, a figure greater than 10th-placed Wolves' £124.5m and the £125.7m earned by Brighton, who finished ninth.

The Magpies received money after featuring in 21 live games, while Wolves and the Seagulls were televised on 16 and 15 occasions respectively.

The same occured towards the top of the table, with fourth-place Tottenham earning more than £146m after featuring in three more live games than Chelsea, who raked in £145.6m after finishing third.

Everton and Leeds meanwhile figured in 10 more live games than Southampton, and earned £117.2m and £115.1m - compared to the Saints' £110.9m - despite finishing in the two places below Ralph Hassenhuttl's men.

But more live coverage did not always equal a higher figure in prize money, with Arsenal earning less than their north London rivals Spurs despite Mikel Arteta's men being televised on two more occasions.

An equal UK share of £31.8m and internationally of £48.9m was handed out to all 20 clubs in the top flight last season, while the central commercial was also set at £6.8m.

Overall, the clubs' total prize money came to more than £2.5billion.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Mo Salah's net income will rise by £1.3MILLION per year - and the average Premier League footballer's annual take-home is going up by £240k after Kwasi Kwarteng's controversial mini-Budget

* Premier League players are set to benefit from the Government's new tax cuts
* The highest rate of tax is dropping from 45 to 40 per cent across the country
* Top-flight stars already collect an average of £4m a year, a figure which will rise
* Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to rake in an extra £1.3m annually after the cuts
* The Man United superstar earns a staggering £400,000 per week at Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah are set to rake in an extra £1.3million annually following the new tax and National Insurance cuts announced by the Government, according to reports.

The UK Government has revealed that the cut of the highest rate of tax will drop from 45 to 40 per cent, which will come as music to the ears of Premier League footballers.

On average, top-flight stars already collect an estimated £4million per year after tax - according to The Times - but that figure will now increase on the back of the tax cuts and national insurance changes.

One of the biggest beneficiaries of the cuts, outlined in Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng's mini-budget, is Manchester United superstar Ronaldo, who reportedly earns £400,000 per week at Old Trafford.

Football finance author Kieran Maguire claims the Portugal captain will earn over £1million in extra net income as a result of the changes, telling i: 'Cristiano Ronaldo's take home will increase by roughly £1.3m over the course of 12 months, which is a lot of money.'

Mohamed Salah, who earns the same salary as Ronaldo at Liverpool, is also in line for an extra £1.3million over the next 12 months.

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to rake in an extra £1.3million annually following the new tax cuts. Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng is set to drop the highest rate of tax from 45 to 40 per cent. Mohamed Salah will also take in over £1million annually once the new measures are in place

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne takes home £385,000 per week, meaning he is set to take home an extra £924,000 annually because of the cuts.

His new team-mate Erling Haaland and Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea are on £375,000 a week, working out as £900,000 extra with a 40 per cent tax rate.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane, on a £200,000-a-week contract, can expect an annual rise of £480,000 if he remains on the same terms.

It is believed the average Premier League player's net pay will now soar by almost £240,000 a year, making England's top-flight an even more attractive destination for overseas talent.

According to research from accountants EY, Premier League players forked out £1.4billion in direct tax throughout the 2019-20 campaign.

The Government's latest cuts mean that figure is expected to drop by around £70million in the future.

Manchester City duo Kevin de Bruyne (£925k) and Erling Haaland (£900k) will also save cash

Manchester United's David de Gea is also expected to earn an extra £900,000 annually. Tottenham striker Harry Kane's £200,000-a-week salary would give him an extra £480,000. The average Premier League player is expected to save around £240,000 a year after the cuts

The Premier League already pays out the highest average salary in European football, although it does not have special tax arrangements for foreign players like in Italy and France.

Italian tax rules allow overseas players to have the first 50 per cent of their wages tax-free for five years if they have a contract for at least two years. The country's maximum tax rate is 43 per cent.

In France, foreign recruits can pay as little as 27 per cent.

Spain recently ended their tax exemptions for players and impose a top rate of 47 per cent, although this varies for different regions, while Germany's rate is 45 per cent.

Saif Rubie, a leading football agent who regularly deals with international transfers, believes the UK's tax cuts will only encourage overseas players to head to the Premier League further.

Rubie said: 'The Premier League is now the leading league in the world as far as its wealth across the board [goes] and this extra incentive with taxation I'm sure will make it more attractive.

'However in countries such as France and Italy they make even bigger allowances for foreign players coming into the league so the top clubs there can still make very attractive offers to players.'

Premier League teams 'suffer the highest number of injuries in Europe'... with the league also 'hit hardest financially due to player absentees' as clubs call for fewer fixtures

* The Premier League has suffered the most injuries in Europe's top five leagues
* The division dealt with 1,231 injuries last season, up from 938 the year before
* Chelsea topped England's list with 97 injuries, with Man United suffering 81
* The Premier League also suffered the highest financial damage due to injuries

The Premier League had the highest number of injuries out of Europe's top five leagues last season, according to a recent study.

Injuries in England's top division were up to 1,231 in 2021-22 compared to 938 the season before.

In research carried out by international insurance brokers Howden, Chelsea topped England's injury count with 97, Manchester United were second with 81 and Liverpool - who progressed to the end of every competition they entered last season - had 80.

The league was also hit the hardest financially due to the injuries, losing £184.57million, with LaLiga in Spain a distant second on £109.34million.

The Premier League have suffered the highest number of injuries in Europe's top five leagues. The division dealt with 1,231 issues in 2021-22 compared to 938in the 2020-21 season

Injury costs for clubs in the continent's 'Big Five' leagues in the 2021-22 campaign were £513.23m, a leap of 29 per cent compared to the season before.

Injuries themselves were up by 20 per cent on the season before, with 4,810 recorded in all.

United recorded the highest injury cost of £26.72million, an average cost per injury of £330,000 and accounting for 14.5 per cent of the total injury cost for the Premier League as a whole.

French champions Paris St Germain - whose star names include Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi, had the highest injury cost of any club in Europe - £34.22million.

Europe's men's club competitions are set to expand from 2024-25 onwards, meaning an extra 64 matches in the Champions League in total.

James Burrows, the head of sport at Howden, says Europe's superpower clubs cannot simply buy their way out of the problem by increasing squad size unless regulations change.

The Premier League also suffered the most financial damage last year due to injuries. French champions PSG have suffered the highest injury cost of any club in Europe

'Dealing with the risk will involve more rotation of playing squad members and potentially seeking adjustments to the number and frequency of games that players need to play in,' he said.

'We may also see an increased focus on the use of younger players given that they are typically more resilient to injury and tend to recover more quickly.'

This is a trend that is perhaps already emerging, with Howden observing a sharp increase in the number of injuries being sustained by the under-21 age group, from 30 occurrences in the 2018-19 season to 326 in 2021-22.

Premier League clubs have called for fewer fixtures as injury numbers continue to rise rapidly. Chelsea suffered the highest number of injuries in England last season, with 97 problems

Premier League clubs are understood to be unanimous in wanting their league's board to formally request that the Football Association scraps FA Cup third and fourth-round replays from the same season, while the PA news agency also understands the league's 'Big Six' clubs are in favour of allowing clubs competing in Europe to drop out of the Carabao Cup or enter an under-21 side.

At the global level, world players' union FIFPRO wants the new calendars to enshrine four or five-week off-season breaks away from the club and national team environment for all players and a similar mid-season break of one to two weeks.

It also believes there should be a cap on the number of back-to-back matches - appearances of 45 minutes or more less than five days apart - a player can play in. FIFPRO says a higher number of appearances in this 'critical zone' increase the risk of injury and can also impact on a player's career longevity.

PREMIER LEAGUE CONFIRMS DATES FOR NEXT SEASON

The Premier League has announced its schedule for the 2023/24 season.

After a couple of campaigns disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and then the 2022/23 term having to accommodate the Qatar World Cup, the calendar returns to normal.

The season begins on Saturday 12 August 2023 and runs until Sunday 19 May 2024 when, as usual for match day 38, all the games will be played concurrently.

For the first time since the 2019/20 season, the winter break returns, with no Premier League fixtures being scheduled between 13 and 20 January 2024.

The season will consist of 34 weekends, three midweek rounds and one Bank Holiday match round.

Players will have 76 clear days to prepare for the 2023/24 campaign, as the current season concludes on Sunday 28 May - the second-latest finish there has been in the Premier League era, after the Covid-delayed year in 2020.

The 2023 Europa League final is scheduled for 31 May, while the Emirates FA Cup and Champions League finals will take place in June.

Manchester United retain their status as the Premier League's most valuable club with an estimated worth of £4.8bn - over £1bn more than second-placed Liverpool - with City third and Arsenal fourth

* According to a recent study, Man United are the most valuable club in England
* The Red Devils' club value has increased by 28 per cent over a two-year period
* Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal round off the top four teams in the top-flight

Manchester United have retained their position as the Premier League's most valuable club, with a valuation of £4.8billion [$5.95b], according to a recent study.

The Red Devils have long been the most valuable club in English football and continued that streak after seeing their value increase by 28 per cent over a two-year period.

Despite their impressive rise in value over that time, Erik ten Hag's side are not the side who's stock has increased the most - and the real answer may surprise you.

According to a study by Sportico, Manchester United's valuation of £4.8billion left them at the summit of the list.

Manchester United have been judged to be the Premier League's most valuable club currently

United's rivals Liverpool and Man City were second and third respectively with valuations of £3.8billion [$4.71b] and £3.5billion [$4.43b].

Current Premier League leaders Arsenal moved up a spot with their value of £2.9billion [$3.6b], while Chelsea were left in fifth with £2.8billion [$3.47b].

And, between 2021 and 2023, it was Newcastle United who saw their club grow in value the most - with a 63 per cent increase bringing them to a total value of £357million.

Newcastle's growth over the two years will have been benefitted by their Saudi led-takeover in 2021.

The news of Manchester United mammoth valuation comes after Sportsmail learned that their search for investment is likely to result in the full sale of the club.

Early indications – after the Premier League giants announced they were open to external parties taking a stake or buying outright – are that the latter is more appealing to those who have so-far registered an interest.

United’s American owners, the Glazer family, remain open to all options. With a huge, additional bill to either redevelop Old Trafford or build a brand new stadium, along with the prospect of a significant upgrade to the training ground, the costs involved will be vast.

Quote:
Premier League's top ten most valuable clubs

1. Manchester United £4.8bn

2. Liverpool £3.8bn

3. Man City £3.5bn

4. Arsenal £2.9bn

5. Chelsea £2.8bn

6. Tottenham £2.6bn

7. West Ham £539m

8. Everton £486m

9. Leicester £442m

10. Newcastle £357m
It is understood that the matter, overseen by US merchant bankers Raine Group, will move to a more formal stage in the next three to four weeks.

The news will no doubt be greeted by fans of the club, who have long protested against the Glazers’ controversial, debt-burdening 18-year reign. The toxicity that would be likely to remain should the Americans retain a controlling interest is another issue at play.

Britain's richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe has revealed his interest in launching a takeover bid for Manchester United after the club was put up for sale by the Glazers.

Ratcliffe’s Ineos company, however, faces substantial competition, with multiple parties already involved from the US and beyond.

It remains to be seen whether a sovereign wealth fund will launch a bid, although such a development would not be unexpected.

Despite their Premier League dominance Man City are only ranked third in the rankings

While the cost is hefty, United’s global appeal is seen as highly attractive. The view throughout the business world is that the club’s vast fanbase, which they say is in excess of one billion, remains relatively untapped.

United's place at the top comes despite their struggles in recent seasons - only showing improvement since Erik ten Hag took the role as manager ahead of the current campaign.

Liverpool were also put on the market last year, though the club are said to be more likely to sell a minority stake rather than sanction a full-blown takeover.

Manchester City's place in third comes despite winning four of the last five Premier League titles.

Arsenal are top of the Premier League table, and should they win the title, it will be expected that they will start to close up to Liverpool and Man City ahead of them.
