Anthony Martial 'leaves Manchester United training after just 11 minutes after being deemed too ill to take part', with France striker a major doubt for Champions League clash with PSG

* Anthony Martial had to stay at the hotel for their victory against Southampton
* Manchester United need just a point against Paris St Germain on Wednesday
* David de Gea remains a doubt after injuring his knee by colliding with the post
* Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Jesse Lingard have all returned to training

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial left the club's training ground after just 11 minutes on Monday morning after failing to recover from illness.

Martial was due to be in the squad for United's 3-2 victory against Southampton on Sunday, but he had to stay at the team's hotel due to picking up the illness the night before.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Frenchman turned up for training at the Carrington training complex, but he was sent straight home due to not being fit enough to train.

It means he's unlikely to play a part in the side's Champions League match against Paris St Germain on Wednesday, where a point will be enough to qualify for the Round of 16.

It's the continuation of a frustrating season so far for the 24-year-old. He's failed to find the back of the net in the league this season - this after scoring 17 times in the last campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's injury list is starting to pile up, with goalkeeper David de Gea taken off at half-time on Sunday with a knee injury after colliding with the post.

Alex Telles is also a doubt after he picked up a slight injury against Southampton, but the United manager is hoping to welcome back Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, while Jesse Lingard has returned to full training.

Anthony Martial has failed to find the back of the net in the Premier League so far this season. Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to leave Martial in the hotel in Southampton

Solskjaer revealed the reason for his absence at St Mary's and also explained his starting line-up.

He told the United website: 'Anthony fell ill overnight so he's in the hotel by himself, poor lad. So that's the reason Ant isn't playing.

'Edinson (Cavani) played well in midweek but we felt Mason (Greenwood) needed a game as well to start with.

David de Gea set for scan on knee injury sustained when crashing into the post during Man United's win over Southampton, with Dean Henderson ready to come in for PSG clash

* David de Gea took a knock just above the knee after a collision with the post
* Man United keeper was trying in vain to stop James Ward-Prowse free-kick
* Spaniard will have a scan on the injury on Monday ahead of their PSG fixture
* Dean Henderson could replace De Gea for crunch Champions League match
* United will qualify for the last-16 if they avoid defeat on Wednesday night

David de Gea will have a scan on his knee on Monday ahead of Manchester United's Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spanish goalkeeper was forced off at half-time during United's 3-2 win at Southampton on Sunday after colliding with the post trying in vain to keep out James Ward-Prowse's free-kick.

Dean Henderson replaced De Gea at the interval, making his Premier League debut for United, and may start the important Champions League clash at Old Trafford if the Spaniard is sidelined.

David de Gea grimaces after colliding with the post while trying in vain to stop James Ward-Prowse's free-kick in Manchester United's win over Southampton on Sunday. De Gea took a blow just above his knee and will have a scan on Monday to find out the severity. De Gea required treatment for the blow to the knee and was taken off at half-time

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: '[David has] a knock just above the knee, so hopefully he'll be okay for Wednesday, but we don't know.

'Let's have a little scan or check tomorrow [Monday], but Dean came on and looked very assured.'

United top Champions League Group H and will advance to the knockout stages if they avoid defeat against PSG.

They will secure top spot in the group if they win on Wednesday and RB Leipzig fail to win against Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey, or if United draw and Leipzig lose.

England international Henderson, 23, didn't go out on a sixth loan spell from United in the summer and instead stayed at Old Trafford to provide competition for De Gea.

But Solskjaer has kept faith with De Gea, starting him in all nine of United's Premier League fixtures as well as three of their four Champions League group games so far.

Henderson started the Champions League defeat away to Istanbul Basaksehir and United's two Carabao Cup ties, away to Luton Town and Brighton and Hove Albion.

But Henderson could get if opportunity to impress in the meeting with PSG if De Gea's knee problem rules him out.

Manchester United face nervous wait over fitness of Marcus Rashford after forward suffered 'shoulder niggle' in PSG defeat as Solskjaer says: 'Hopefully he will be ready for the West Ham game'

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes Marcus Rashford will be available for West Ham
* The 23-year-old was withdrawn with a shoulder concern against PSG
* Solskjaer confirmed it was a problem with the shoulder after the feisty game

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful Marcus Rashford will be available for Manchester United's trip to West Ham after the attacker was forced off against Paris Saint Germain.

The 23-year-old was withdrawn with 15 minutes remaining of United's 3-1 loss to the French champions in their feisty Group H clash at Old Trafford with what looked to be a shoulder injury.

Rashford immediately walked down the tunnel after being replaced by Paul Pogba, as a Neymar brace put the Parisians in a commanding position in the group heading into the final round of games.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that Marcus Rashford will be available for the West Ham game. The forward was withdrawn with a shoulder problem in the 3-1 defeat by Paris Saint Germain

And Solskjaer has provided an update on the fitness of his star attacker, who did not play in the recent international break as a result of a similar shoulder concern.

'It's a niggling shoulder injury,' Solskjaer told BT Sport after the final whistle. 'Let's see how quickly he can recover. Hopefully he will be ready for the West Ham game.'

Rashford's absence would be a big loss for United, with the England international full of confidence in the outing against PSG on Wednesday evening.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand said the 23-year-old was 'unplayable at times' in his role on the right wing, linking up well with new man Edinson Cavani before his untimely substitution.

The pair are developing a good partnership after Rashford set up the Uruguayan for his dramatic late winner against Southampton last weekend, as the Red Devils came from 2-0 down to clinch all three points at St Mary's Stadium.

United visit a resurgent West Ham on Saturday afternoon with former boss David Moyes surely keen to get one over his former club at the London Stadium.

Manchester United sweating over fitness of Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani ahead of Champions League showdown with RB Leipzig as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms pair are set to undergo scans

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial's injuries
* Both players sustained muscular injuries during their 3-1 triumph over West Ham
* Solskjaer says they 'aren't too bad' and claims they will know more after scans

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have to go without Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial for Manchester United's crucial Champions League clash with RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

The Red Devils manager confirmed both players picked up muscular injuries during Saturday's 3-1 triumph over West Ham.

Cavani - who scored twice as a substitute against Southampton last weekend - was withdrawn at half-time against the Hammers, while Martial was replaced just after the hour mark.

The exclusion of Cavani and Martial will come as a blow to Manchester United, who. must avoid defeat against Leipzig to advance to the Champions League last 16.

Speaking after their Premier League victory over West Ham, Solskjaer told MUTV: 'We lost Anthony and Edinson.

'Hopefully they aren't too bad but they couldn't carry on today.

'There's a game coming up on Tuesday but that's probably going to be the season this year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Edinson Cavani (left) and Anthony Martial's (right) injuries. Solskjaer hopes the injuries 'aren't too bad' and claims they will know more after their scans. Both players sustained muscular injuries during Man United's 3-1 triumph over West Ham

'There's going to be some games that we have to do without players and I'm glad we've got the subs that we have.

'They're not bad ones (injuries) hopefully. We'll do scans and hopefully they'll be available soon.'

Despite the various injuries, Solskjaer will be happy with the result as United have now won their first five away league games of a season - collecting all 15 points despite conceding first.

Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial AND Edinson Cavani for crunch Champions League showdown at RB Leipzig, with both suffering from minor knocks

* Manchester United's Champions League progression comes down to one game
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side travel to face RB Leipzig in Champions League
* They must at least secure a draw to guarantee reaching knockout stages
* Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani are both out of game with minor injuries

Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani for their do-or-die Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.

Both attacking players are nursing minor injuries and will not travel to Germany for the final group game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: 'David de Gea is travelling, Luke Shaw is travelling, Edinson and Anthony won't be making the trip, minor niggles.'

United need at least a draw to guarantee their place in the knockout stages of the competition.

So the absence of two of their striking options is a blow, although Martial has been struggling for form so far this season.

Cavani's absence may be a more significant blow as he has shown signs of his best recently, particularly in the brace he scored against Southampton.

Despite the fact that a point would be good enough against Julian Nagelsmann's team, Solskjaer insisted that United will not be sitting back with a cautious approach.

He said: 'I think you approach the game as a 90 minute game, anything can happen in any moment, you can't sit back and hope for a 0-0 draw, its not in our genes, the club's genes. You have to play to win.

'Games like this are something that we want. Tradition for Manchester United is to make it hard for ourselves! Even ever since I played and that's a long time ago.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to rejig his forward line for the RB Leipzig showdown. Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial are out of the game with minor niggles

Harry Maguire added: 'We go there and look to win, for sure we won't be sitting back.'

There is a lot of pressure on United heading into Tuesday's match, but Solskjaer is confident the players will rise to the occasion.

'Knockout games or games like this that mean you can go through or not are big,' the United boss said.

'The players are here, they are Man United players, because they have qualities that we've looked for and I'm sure that tomorrow night will prove that's the reason why they're here, they will show it.

'I think the character of the group is getting better and better and we're looking forward to the game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals Paul Pogba, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw missed FA Cup win over Watford due to injury as trio face race against time to be fit for big week where they could move six points ahead of Liverpool

* Manchester United managed to get a 1-0 victory against Watford in the FA Cup
* Paul Pogba, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw all missed out thanks to injury
* Manchester United can go top of the league with a win over Burnley next week

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Paul Pogba missed out on the Manchester United squad which faced Watford in the FA Cup on Saturday due to injury.

Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw were also ruled out before the game, and the United boss will also have to check on Eric Bailly after he suffered a blow to the head during the match.

Pogba's 2019-20 season was marred by an ankle injury which required surgery and kept him out of action for many weeks.

Paul Pogba was not in the squad for Man United's Saturday FA Cup match due to injury. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping for full fitness with a big week coming up for United. Pogba's last couple of seasons have been marred by injuries, particularly related to his ankle

He also had a spell on the side lines this season, missing a few games due to an ankle problem he picked up on international duty with France.

Manchester United face a big week ahead. They can go top of the league with a win against Burnley and will then face rivals Liverpool, so Solskjaer will be hoping there are no long term injuries to contend with.

Solskjaer's happiness at making it through to the FA Cup fourth round was tinged by disappointment at his much-changed side's display against Watford.

Having fallen to a galling loss to rivals Manchester City in Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final, Scott McTominay's early header secured a 1-0 win against Sky Bet Championship opposition in Saturday evening's third-round encounter.

United flew out of the blocks at an empty Old Trafford but dropped off markedly, with the nine players brought into the side leading to a lack of fluency and unconvincing display.

'Very happy to get through,' Solskjaer said. 'We started very brightly.

'I expected it to be other way round - that we needed 15-20 minutes to get going and find our rhythm.

'But after a very good start we lost our shape, we lost too many balls.

'We lost it easily. It was like we started making difficult decisions to try and complicate things and maybe show the manager that 'I want to play in the next game'.

Eric Bailly will also need to be checked after he took a blow to the head against Watford

'I know they're good players so they didn't have to do that, but we're through. That's the main thing.'

Donny Van De Beek, Brandon Williams and Jesse Lingard were among the alterations, with Dean Henderson and McTominay the only players retaining a starting spot from the City loss.

The latter proved the difference on Saturday evening, when leading United out as captain for the first time.

'He's got great character, good attitude,' Solskjaer said of academy graduate McTominay. 'He comes in every day, does the right things, lives his life properly, wants to be the best he can be and he's not afraid to be vocal.

'He always, always goes out there to give his best. Never shirks a tackle. Nothing.

'He's got everything a leader has to have, so I just wanted to test him today how he reacted because he always done that anyway.

'But I gave him the armband to see if there was any change in him but luckily there wasn't.'

On a night of few highlights, the main concern was the blow that forced Eric Bailly off towards the end of the first half.

Having been hit in the back of the head when goalkeeper Henderson was clearing a ball, Solskjaer said when asked for an update: 'I honestly can't tell you.

'I think he got a good whack. I don't think it's concussion. I think it's his neck, which is sore.

'Hopefully a muscle injury but we'll have to check him tomorrow and fingers crossed he won't be out for too long.'

Watford return to action at home to Huddersfield in the Championship next weekend after putting in a performance that pleased recently-appointed boss Xisco Munoz.

'I'm very proud of our players,' he said after his third match in charge of the Hornets. 'This is our style.

'I know we have little details to improve. We know we have a very good team against us.

'The guys give us very good intensity, with very good tactics.

'Our team is growing up and it's important we believe in our team.'

Anthony Martial could be fit for Manchester United's top-of-the-table showdown against bitter rivals Liverpool, with star's hamstring injury not as bad as first feared

* Anthony Martial hurt his hamstring at the end of Tuesday's win at Burnley
* But the Frenchman was moving freely after the game at Turf Moor finished
* The 25-year-old will be assessed on Thursday morning by club's physios
* Martial could yet be involved in Sunday's clash against champions Liverpool

Manchester United will give Anthony Martial as much time as possible to prove his fitness for Sunday's top-of-the-table showdown with Liverpool at Anfield.

The 25-year-old appeared to hurt his hamstring as he attempted a shot at the end of United's win at Burnley on Tuesday night and was immediately replaced by Axel Tuanzebe.

Club sources say the injury is not as bad as first feared and Martial was moving freely after the game, but the Frenchman will be assessed on Thursday morning after the players were given Wednesday off.

Manchester United will give Anthony Martial as much time as possible to prove his fitness. Martial limped off after appearing to hurt his hamstring late on against Burnley on Tuesday

United's victory at Turf Moor took them three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to use Martial's pace against the champions.

However, if United's 23-goal top-scorer last season loses his fitness battle, Edinson Cavani could lead the line again after starting at Burnley, and Solskjaer has other wide options in Mason Greenwood, Dan James and Juan Mata.

RASHFORD INJURY UPDATE AFTER CUP WIN

Marcus Rashford will have a scan on his knee on Monday after our Man of the Match was forced off before the end of Manchester United's superb 3-2 FA Cup win over Liverpool.

Our no.10 had earlier set up Mason Greenwood for the Reds' first goal in the fourth-round tie, with the pass of the match. Three minutes after the restart, Greenwood returned the favour and Rashford finished with aplomb past Alisson.

Four minutes from time, the England striker was replaced by Anthony Martial and headed straight up the tunnel.

Ole was asked about Rashford's departure from the action by BBC Sport and whether the England international would be okay for our next match, and the boss had this to say.

“Let’s hope so. His knee was bothering him,” revealed Ole. “[He'll have a] scan tomorrow and we’ll see where we are.”

Rashford's goal was sandwich between Greenwood's and Bruno Fernandes' superb winner for the Reds, who will now face West Ham United in the fifth round of the Cup at Old Trafford next month.

That was Marcus's 15th goal of the campaign in all competitions, from 31 appearances for the Reds.

It means the attacker is on course to set his highest tally in a single season for United. Marcus bagged 22 last term, his highest number to date from one campaign.

Make sure to check out ManUtd.com and our Official App on Monday and Tuesday to see if we have any further updates on Rashford's injury situation.

Scott McTominay forced off in the 37th minute of Man United's draw against Arsenal after suffering stomach cramp - with club hopeful he'll be fit for Tuesday's visit of Southampton

* Manchester United's Scott McTominay was substituted off in the 37th minute
* The Scottish midfielder tried to take a pill to settle his stomach but it was in vain
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a bold switch, replacing him with Anthony Martial

Manchester United received an injury blow as midfielder Scott McTominay was forced off with stomach cramp during their goalless draw at Arsenal on Saturday evening.

McTominay was replaced just before half-time clutching his midriff, although he appeared to be struggling with the issue earlier in the match.

Twenty minutes in Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey glided past him and he was clearly off the pace and unable to keep up.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay was forced off in the 37th minute vs Arsenal

The Scotland international had taken a pill to try to settle his stomach earlier in the match but it was clearly unsuccessful. However, United are hopeful he'll be fit for the visit of Southampton on Tuesday night.

A statement on the club's website read: 'We discovered during the interval that the problem was stomach cramp.

'Consequently, we hope the illness is not too severe and he will be available for our next Premier League outing - at home to Southampton on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.'

Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ignored midfielders Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic on the substitutes' bench, however, bringing on forward Anthony Martial in an attacking switch with Paul Pogba moving back.

Dutchman Van de Beek would have provided a like-for-like switch, but clearly had not done enough to impress his manager during his 10-minute cameo in Wednesday's 2-1 loss against Sheffield United.

He was clearly in some pain and went off the pitch clutching his midriff and stomach area. The 19-cap Scottish international took a pill to settle his stomach but it proved unsuccessful

That outing was his first in the league since before Christmas, and it appears the Norwegian does not yet trust the £35million summer signing in a Premier League engine room.

McTominay, 24, has nailed down a starting spot for Solskjaer's side so far this season, and has already made 26 appearances in all competitions.

With Pogba often utilised out wide or further forward and Nemanja Matic frequently rotated, McTominay has provided a stable base in the double pivot alongside the rejuvenated Fred.

However, with United's next fixture against Southampton on Tuesday, they may be without the 19-cap international for the immediate future.

Paul Pogba picks up another injury at a time when he was becoming a pivotal team player for Manchester United... Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope that his latest absence is only a brief one

* Paul Pogba picked up an injury during Manchester United's draw with Everton
* The United star limped off in the first-half at Old Trafford with Fred coming on
* There was a time when the Red Devils were better off without the Frenchman
* But Pogba could now miss an important part of Manchester United's title bid

We were approaching half-time at Old Trafford when Paul Pogba played a short pass to Victor Lindelof and immediately pulled up clutching his right thigh.

Pogba sank to the turf and informed referee Jon Moss that he would be taking no further part in Manchester United's draw with Everton.

It was Moss who first signalled to the home dugout to get a substitute ready before Pogba got up and walked gingerly towards the touchline. The physio came on but only to confirm what we already knew and to help the Frenchman the rest of the way off the pitch.

Paul Pogba was injured in Man United's Premier League match with Everton on Saturday

The midfielder limped out of the Old Trafford encounter in the first-half as he couldn't carry on

So Pogba's race was run and, depending on the severity of the injury to his groin or thigh, it might be a few games before we see him again.

He will be missed. That might sound an obvious thing to say about United's £89million record signing, who was efficient rather than spectacular for the 39 minutes he was on the pitch here, but it hasn't always been the case.

There have been times over the last four-and-a-half years when it felt as though they were better off without him. When the circus around Pogba was more trouble than it was worth considering what he delivered on the pitch. Jose Mourinho certainly seemed to reach that conclusion.

There was a time when United was deemed to be better without the iconic Pogba in their side

The last couple of months have seen a difference in Pogba though.

He has been playing better than at any time since his first season back at Old Trafford when he teamed up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic to help United win the League Cup and Europa League.

The 27-year-old seems happier in himself and in this United side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He is more of a team player, one no longer casting envious glances at Bruno Fernandes in the No 10 role.

It has brought better performances and important goals like the equaliser against West Ham in December and winners against Burnley and Fulham last month.

Pogba is now set to miss an important part of Manchester United's season and title bid. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (right) spoke about the positive impact Pogba (left) has made this term. Questions will still be asked about Pogba's future even if his injury lay-off is a short one

Solskjaer rested Pogba for the 9-0 romp against Southampton in midweek but brought him straight back as the only change to the team that faced Everton.

'Paul has been excellent the last couple of months,' said the United boss before kick-off. 'He had a well-earned rest against Southampton and now he's ready to go again.

'I like most of the things with Paul as a footballer, he is creative and he is now doing a shift for us defensively. He is physical and wins headers for us and today set plays will be important for us.'

That's not to say the Pogba puzzle has been solved by any means. It hasn't always been easy to accommodate him in Solskjaer's favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, with Pogba never entirely happy playing in the defensive midfield role because he cannot get forward enough.

Solskjaer also likes the energy of Fred – the man who made way for Pogba and then replaced him – and Scott McTominay.

Neither is Pogba a perfect fit for the wide positions where he has been tried on both the left and right flanks in recent weeks.

Again, Solskjaer has more suitable options there in Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Then, of course, there is the incessant speculation over Pogba's future fuelled largely by the player himself and his irksome agent Mino Raiola.

Even though the France midfielder didn't play in midweek, Solskjaer had to field a number of questions about him in his Friday press conference after Pogba's brother Mathias told Spanish TV that United would have to sell him this summer or see him walk away for nothing at the end of his contract in June 2022.

The inference was that Pogba will not sign a new deal. Raiola has indicated the same. Solskjaer says there is 'open dialogue' although it's understood that the two parties have agreed to put off any contract talks until the end of the season.

In the meantime, it would suit everyone if Pogba could continue in his current form. On his day, he is a supreme midfielder. With that in mind, United will hope that his absence is only a brief one.
