Crystal Palace will turn their attention to a bid to sign Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers once they complete a club record deal for Yohan Cabaye.

Palace boss Alan Pardew has assured Cabaye that he has plans for more ambitious transfer targets this summer with a new centre-forward a top priority.

Loic Remy is top of the list, with Pardew attempting to reunite two French players at Selhurst Park who combined to such good effect for him at Newcastle.

Remy has made it clear he is interested but it seems unlikely to happen.

Chelsea will demand more than £15million, which is out of reach for a club that has just promised to pay Paris St Germain £12.8m for Cabaye.

Palace are set to focus instead on prising Austin from Loftus Road and will try to knock down the fee by offering some of their seasoned Championship players in part-exchange.

QPR also value their 25-year-old centre-forward at £15m after he scored 18 Barclays Premier League goals in a relegated team last season.

This asking price for someone with only one year left on his contract and who failed a medical on a proposed move from Burnley to Hull, two years ago, is deterring some clubs.

Interest from West Bromwich Albion, Southampton and Leicester has cooled for this reason but Newcastle are still in pursuit.

Palace will attempt to strike a deal with an opening offer of £6m plus players, with Fraizer Campbell, Barry Bannan, Adrian Mariappa and Adlene Guedioura available in part-exchange.

Campbell, once capped by England, would offer QPR a direct replacement for Austin and Algerian midfielder Guedioura proved instrumental in Watford's promotion to the Premier League during a loan spell last season.

Director of football Les Ferdinand and head coach Chris Ramsey are in the process of restructuring the first team squad at Loftus Road, to bring its profile in line with its natural resources, so this may have some appeal.

Ramsey's squad set off on Thursday for a training camp and pre-season games in the Italian Lake District.

Everton prospect John Lundstram is poised to join Wigan after his contract ran out at Goodison Park.

The 21-year-old free agent, who also has interest from Crewe, has had varied loan spells at Leyton Orient, Blackpool and Doncaster Rovers but the midfielder is keen on signing for Gary Caldwell's side.

Lundstram is has represented England at every level from Under 17 to Under 20, but has yet to be called up to Gareth Southgate's Under 21 side.

He was named in Peter Taylor's U20 squad in May 2013 for their World Cup campaign and made his debut in a 3–0 win in a warm-up game against Uruguay.

The midfielder joined Scunthorpe on loan in March, and impressed sufficiently for the Iron to extend it until the end of the season, and he said he enjoyed his time at Glanford Park.

Lundstram turned professional with Everton in 2012, but failed to make a single first team appearance.

Fulham are discussing a deal for Eric Fernando Botteghin.

The 27-year-old is a 6ft 4ins tall Brazilian centre back who plays for Groningen in Holland.

Fulham have been looking for a commanding defender who is good on the ball and hope Botteghin, who has an Italian passport, can fulfil that role.

Southampton made a late attempt to sign Angelo Ogbonna from Juventus on Wednesday night but the defender is due to have his medical at West Ham on Friday before signing.

The 27-year-old opted for West Ham over Everton after the London club agreed an £8.5m fee.

Juventus turned down Southampton's offer, understood to be £10m, because they had already given their commitment to West Ham. Napoli also made a late enquiry.

Southampton are weighing up midfield options too with Morgan Schneiderlin set to depart.

Marseille's Mario Lemina has been discussed as has Feyenoord's Jordy Clasie and former Arsenal player Kyle Ebicilio, 21, who has been playing for FC Twente.

Schneiderlin was the subject of much transfer speculation last summer too, but it appears the France midfielder will complete a move away from St Mary's, with Manchester United the likely destination.

West Ham United have completed the signing of Juventus centre back Angelo Ogbonna for an £8.5million fee after he passed a medical and agreed terms on a four-year deal.

The Italian international, 27, was the subject of late interest from Southampton, Everton and Napoli but the Hammers secured his signature to make their latest signing of an already-busy summer.

'I am delighted to have joined the club, Ogbonna said. 'I wanted to play in the Premier League and am happy to be in London.

Everton and Napoli also made their interest known but the player chose a move to east London.

Ogbonna only arrived at Juve in 2013 from city rivals Torino but he was unable to displace first-choice centre backs Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.

The 6 foot 3 star is adept at playing at left back as well as in the centre and he has made 10 appearances for the Italian national side.

In a strange twist of events, West Ham co-chairman David Gold accidentally tweeted a picture of Ogbonna when welcoming new signing Pedro Obiang to the club last month before later deleting it.

Announcing the signing on Friday, Gold thankfully got the right player as he wished the £8.5m man all the best at Upton Park.

The Hammers reached the second qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday night with a 1-0 win at Lusitans completing a 4-0 aggregate victory.

Bilic has already added Marseille's Dimitri Payet and Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang to his squad in a bid to compete on multiple fronts in the coming season.

Speaking to the club's official website Cabaye gave his reaction to the deal saying: 'I'm happy to be here.

'I wanted to come and play for Palace because there are some really strong players here. They finished very well last season and I think they can compete to get into the top eight.

'I also know the gaffer and have worked with him before and I'm confident with him.

'I want to do my best for him because he's made a big effort to get me to come here, as well as the Chairman, so I have to say a big thank you to both of them.'

Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Palace co-chairman Steve Parish revealed how big a influence Pardew had in bringing Cabaye to Selhurst Park saying: 'Do not underestimate Alan's relationship with the player.

'Obviously Yohan has had a very successful period working with Alan and I think you will find that Alan is a coach that players trust.

'We must not underestimate his influence over this particular transfer because he has known the player a long time.


'I think it is safe to say that Yohan has bought into everything that we are doing at the club and he has come to join Crystal Palace but I think it would not have happened if we did not have Alan running the football club.'

The fee for Cabaye eclipses Palace's previous record transfer, £7m paid to Wigan for James McArthur last summer.

Pardew's side have pulled off a real coup landing the France midfielder, beating off competition from London rivals Tottenham to sign the former Newcastle playmaker, who only moved to Paris in a £19m deal last year.

But Cabaye struggled for game time at the Ligue 1 champions last season, making just 13 league starts, completing the full 90 minutes in just one of those matches.

On Saturday, Parish spoke openly about the club's attempts to sign Cabaye on talkSPORT.

A move was essential for Cabaye with next year's European Championship in mind, with the 29-year-old warned by national boss Didier Deschamps that if he wants a place in his squad for the tournament he needs regular football - something he will surely get at Selhurst Park.

Cabaye's signing shows a big statement of intent from the south London side, as they bid to improve on their impressive 10th place finish last term.
