Paul Pogba ruled out until December as Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms the extent of troublesome ankle injury

* Paul Pogba is set to be out of action for at least another month due to his ankle
* Pogba missed eight of the last 10 games with the issue first picked up in August
* He recently returned from a warm-weather rehabilitation programme in Dubai
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted it will likely be December before he is next seen

Paul Pogba is set to be out of action for at least another month due to his troublesome ankle injury, it emerged on Sunday night.

Manchester United's record signing has missed eight of the last 10 games with the problem that he first suffered against Southampton in August and then aggravated when he returned to play against Rochdale and Arsenal last month.

Pogba recently returned from a warm-weather rehabilitation programme in Dubai with his right foot still in a protective cast, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed after Sunday's win at Norwich that the Frenchman is still some way off a return.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Paul Pogba is unlikely to return until December

'I don't think we'll see him maybe before December,' said Solskjaer. 'He'll be out for a while. He needs time to fully, fully recover, so I don't think he'll be back.

'Maybe Sheffield United (on November 24) after the international break but probably December before you can see him.

'It's the ankle rather than foot. I'm not the doctor but there is an injury there that needs healing.'

United climbed eight places to seventh in the Premier League table at the end of a week that saw Solskjaer's side take a point from an encouraging display against leaders Liverpool, beat Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League in Serbia and then post their first away win in the Premier League in eight months at Carrow Road.

The United manager paid tribute to Anthony Martial who has scored on his two starts against Partizan and Norwich after returning from an eight-week lay-off.

Despite missing a penalty at Norwich, the Frenchman combined superbly with Marcus Rashford to score United's third goal.

'It's great to see them link up,' said Solskjaer. 'We've missed Anthony the last two months and it's great to have him back.

'He's vital for us. He's a top striker and to have him back, fit, smiling enjoying his football is a big thing for us. He's clever in his movement but he's not been given credit for his clever defending.

'Him and Marcus, they're just going to improve and grow. It was a great finish by Anthony.'

Solskjaer also praised Rashford who recovered from his own penalty miss to score with a cool finish.

'I thought the reaction to his miss was excellent,' said the Norwegian. 'He ran back, chased, won the ball back and scored a great goal.'

Victor Lindelof out of Manchester United's Europa League clash with Partizan Belgrade with back injury

* Victor Lindelof will not play in Manchester United's clash with Partizan Belgrade
* Swedish centre-back is nursing a knocked he picked up at Chelsea last week
* He played through the pain in defeat by Bournemouth at the weekend

Victor Lindelof will miss Manchester United's Europa League visit of Partizan Belgrade with a back injury.

The Swedish centre-back has been nursing a knock he picked up in the victory over Chelsea last week and played through it against Bournemouth at the weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed on Wednesday: 'Lindelof? He won't be fit for tomorrow, no.

'He got a knock against Chelsea and he didn't come through the game against Bournemouth without a reaction so he will be out tomorrow.'

The 25-year-old has been a virtual ever-present in the United side this season, playing in 10 of their 11 Premier League games so far.

But he has appeared just once in Europe, in last month's goalless draw with AZ Alkmaar.

Look away now Ole! Harry Maguire winces in discomfort while Scott McTominay adds to Manchester United's injury woes as Scottish midfielder limps down the tunnel against Partizan Belgrade

* Scott McTominay was forced off against Partizan Belgrade after getting a knock
* The Scotland international hobbled straight down the tunnel after leaving pitch
* United fans will hope it is not serious ahead of the visit of Brighton this weekend

Manchester United's dominant display against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League was overshadowed on Thursday night by the sight of Scott McTominay limping straight down the tunnel.

The Scottish international was met with a crunching challenge midway through the second half and he struggled to shake off the pain before he was withdrawn.

McTominay was not going to be risked by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer given how important he has become to the side this season in the absence of Paul Pogba.

There was a sense of unease at Old Trafford as the 22-year-old midfielder clutched his ankle

Jesse Lingard was sent on as United's final change of the night in place of McTominay.

When quizzed on the injury, Solskjaer looked to allay any fears of a long-term issue when he said: 'I don't know. He said he was going to be okay but then he couldn't, but hopefully he will okay for Sunday, I don't know.'

The 22-year-old has managed to establish himself as a primary option in central midfielder and has fast become a dependable player for Solskjaer, despite the club's difficult start to the campaign.

There will be hopes that McTominay's issue is not serious and he will be fit to take on Brighton

McTominay dropped to the floor holding his right ankle and given United were 3-0 up and cruising, it was a source of real frustration with supporters that one of the regular starters had an injury scare.

The young Scot has already made 14 appearances for United this season - he managed to get 22 in the total of 2018-19.

It remains unclear if McTominay will miss Sunday's game against Brighton and it is likely to ring alarm bells for Scotland boss Steve Clarke ahead of the final two Euro 2020 qualifiers against Cyprus and Kazakhstan.

Harry Maguire was another who had United fans concerned after the 3-0 win on Thursday but Solskjaer insists he expects the £80million summer signing to recover in time for Sunday's game.

'I think Harry will be okay,' Solskjaer told MUTV. 'He finished the game anyway.'

Harry Maguire looked uncomfortable at one stage but he managed to play the full 90 minutes

Manchester United handed boost as Paul Pogba 'is set to RETURN for derby against Manchester City' after French star had cast removed from right ankle

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to bring a number of key stars back from injury
* Paul Pogba is reportedly targeting the Manchester derby to return to the side
* The Frenchman has not featured since September 30 in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal
* He filmed his ankle cast being removed on Monday as he steps up his recovery

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly set for a timely boost with Paul Pogba expected to prove his fitness in time for the Manchester derby against City on December 7.

Pogba has missed the last nine matches for United but stepped up his return to fitness on Monday when the cast on his injured right ankle was removed.

The positive news about the cast removal was followed up with ESPN reporting that the derby against City has been earmarked as a return date for the French midfielder with United in need of trimming their growing injury list.

Paul Pogba is reportedly targeting the Manchester derby for his return to the United side. The midfielder has not featured since the 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford in September

United are facing one of their busiest periods of the season and so the return of Pogba would be a major boost to Solskjaer and the rest of the squad.

The club are facing 12 games in just 39 days and the Norwegian boss is well aware of how fatigue and niggling injuries will see his selection options depleted.

Pogba has not turned out for United since picking up an injury in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against Arsenal on September 30.

Pogba, who has only played six times this season, shakes his ankle after his cast is removed

The Frenchman was particularly excitable on his social media on Monday as he filmed the doctor removing the cast from his injured ankle.

For United, an upturn in form has been coupled with a number of first team-regulars returning from injury.

Swedish defender Victor Lindelof returned from a foot injury to feature for United in their 3-1 win over Brighton on Sunday, lifting them to seventh in the Premier League table.

Eric Bailly has proven a long-term absentee for United having not been involved in matches or training since suffering injury in a pre-season game against Tottenham.

The ESPN report goes on to add that the Ivorian - who is targeting a return given he is out of contract in the summer - will look to be back in light training after the international break concludes having recently been walking without the aid of crutches.

Eric Bailly is 'walking without crutches' having not featured since being injured in pre-season

United return from the international break with a trip to newly-promoted Sheffield United before a 7,000-mile round trip to take on Astana in the Europa League.

Solskjaer and his players secured qualification to the knockout rounds with a 3-0 rout of Partizan Belgrade last week but will still find the travel exhausting in such a busy schedule, even with heavy rotation expected.

The only major injury concern from the last week is the severity of Scott McTominay's issue which he picked up against Brighton. The Scot has been a mainstay in the midfield, particularly in Pogba's absence and so if that proves to be serious, Pogba's return would be timely.

Paul Pogba 'to return in 10 DAYS' for Manchester United... despite taking to Instagram to show he is STILL getting treatment on his injured ankle

* Paul Pogba has struggled for fitness due to an ankle issue so far this season
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said recently that Pogba was still some way from playing
* He took to Instagram on Tuesday to show he's still getting treatment on his ankle

Paul Pogba is set to make a timely return to action and be back available for Manchester United in 10 days, according to reports.

The Frenchman has been out of action since September having spent recent months struggling with an ankle problem.

And despite posting on Instagram to show he is still receiving treatment on his troublesome right ankle, the Sun report Pogba will be back in just over a week to help United for what is set to be a hectic December period.

Paul Pogba is reportedly to end his spell on the sidelines and return to action 'in 10 days'. Pogba showed off his injured ankle again on Instagram on Tuesday casting doubt on a return

Solskjaer and his players are facing a hectic December where they are due to play nine matches, including Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup commitments.

They face former boss Jose Mourinho when his Tottenham side visit Old Trafford, have a Manchester derby against City and take on struggling Everton during the month of December.

With Scott McTominay, who has impressed in Pogba's absence, himself struggling with injury, Pogba's return would represent a timely boost for United.

But while the Sun report that Pogba is closing in on a return, the midfielder took to social media on Tuesday to show he is still receiving treatment on his right ankle.

His Instagram story showed his right foot strapped in a brace while he sat on a treatment table.

Admittedly, Tuesday's story sends mixed messages as they contrast with the Instagram story Pogba put out on Friday, where he played basketball with Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler, seemingly with no physical problems.

Pogba, who has not played since September 30, has spent time in Miami while rehabilitating his ankle.

His absence has also been construed as having another meaning, with a nod to his future in Manchester.

Despite shooting hoops with Butler, it is claimed that he is refusing to get back on the pitch for United as he does not want to risk his chances of earning a move away by returning to action too soon.

Pogba could be on the move to Real Madrid as early as January, according to Spanish outlet Cope.

The Red Devils midfielder - who was a prime target for Zinedine Zidane - pushed for an exit last summer but was unsuccessful in his attempts of forcing through a deal.

Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay expected to return to action before the New Year by Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

* Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave a positive fitness update
* Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay are nearing a return
* It is anticipated that the quartet will all make their returns to action this month

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he expects injured quartet Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay to return to action before the New Year.

United are currently without a host of players due to injuries, but Solskjaer anticipates that the club's problems in that area will soon reduce.

'I am hopeful that before the end of the year we can have a lot more bodies back from injury,' Solskjaer said in his programme notes, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects Paul Pogba to return to action soon

Defender Eric Bailly is also set to return as he bounces back from a long-term knee problem

'We're hoping to see Scott, Diogo, Paul and Eric back this month, while Thursday's game in Astana was a good opportunity to get some of the lads some valuable playing time to integrate them fully into the squad.'

Bailly hasn't played at all this season because of a knee problem, while Pogba has been out since September due to an ankle injury.

Dalot, meanwhile, has been struggling with a groin problem and McTominay has an ankle issue.

Defender Diogo Dalot, who has a groin strain, is also stepping up his recovery for United

Scott McTominay is another United player who could soon be set to get back playing again

Having all of the aforementioned players back available would be a major boost for United, who are eager to start building up momentum.

United went into Sunday's clash at home to Aston Villa looking to return to winning ways following their Europa League defeat to Astana, when they fielded a very young side.

Solskjaer's team have struggled for consistency and will hope that fewer injuries will help their cause greatly.

Paul Pogba will MISS Jose Mourinho's Manchester United reunion as Tottenham head to Old Trafford... but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the French star is closing in on comeback

* Manchester United welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford on Wednesday night
* New Spurs boss Jose Mourinho returns to the club who sacked him last year
* Paul Pogba is still not ready to feature against Spurs but is back in training
* He has not played since injuring his ankle against Arsenal in September
* Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is 'still a bit away' from full fitness

Paul Pogba will not be available for Jose Mourinho's Old Trafford return, with Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic 'touch and go' for Manchester United's highly-anticipated encounter with Tottenham.

The 26-year-old Pogba has not featured since September due to an ankle injury and returned to Manchester at the end of last week after a spell of rehabilitation in Miami.

But Pogba will not be fit for Wednesday's reunion with former United boss Mourinho, who the World Cup winner regularly clashed with towards the end.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: 'No. Paul's not ready, no.

'He's still a bit away but he's working hard so let's see. He's out on the grass, so let's see how long it will take.'

United looked light in midfield at the start of the season and that issue has been compounded by injuries.

In addition to Pogba, influential midfielder McTominay has missed United's last three matches with an ankle issue and Matic has not been seen for two months.

'They're touch and go,' Solskjaer said. 'So let's get this training session out of the way. We've got more games than this one, so of course I can't look at just the one game, we have got to look at long term.'

Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'hopeful' Paul Pogba will return before the end of the year as he brands midfielder 'one of the best in the world'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful Paul Pogba will make his return from injury before the end of the year.

Pogba has been absent since September and has been limited to just six appearances this season after suffering an ankle injury in a draw with Arsenal.

Solskjaer revealed this week the midfielder is 'back on the grass and training' but has ruled him out of playing any part in their final Europa League group game against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday.

Asked if he would feature, Solskjaer said: 'No, it's too early for him. We hope he will be back this year. He's working hard to get fit and hopefully we can get him back on the pitch.'

Fred has been given a leading role in Pogba's absence and has impressed with his performances in recent weeks.

And Solskjaer refused to say if Pogba would slot straight back into the team when he returns to fitness.

He added: 'Let's get him fit and back in form. He will play loads of games.

'He's one of the best players in the world and we're looking forward to having him back.'

Scott McTominay leaves Old Trafford on crutches as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Manchester United midfielder has picked up knee injury

Scott McTominay left Old Trafford on crutches after Manchester United's crushing 4-1 win over Newcastle, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming the midfielder has picked up a knee injury.

McTominay was withdrawn from the action at half time, with United 3-1 up, as Paul Pogba replaced him to see out a comfortable victory on Boxing Day.

But the 23-year-old Scot could be out for a lengthy spell as Solskjaer confirmed that his midfielder's injury is knee-related.

Scott McTominay was substituted at half time during Man United's 4-1 win over Newcastle. The midfielder was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches shortly after the game on Boxing Day

'He's done his ligament in the knee probably,' he said. 'I don't know how bad, let's see. The boy has got the biggest heart and when they knocked together and you see the attitude of the kid and everyone to be fair.

'Not sure if he's going to be ready for Saturday('s game against Burnley) but we've seen him heal quickly before.'

McTominay, who has been one of United's best players this season, could be a huge loss for United, with Solskjaer struggling to find a solution to his midfield woes.

Pogba's return from injury is a boost but the Norwegian will be cautious to pin his midfield hopes on a man who is keen to leave the club.

Harry Maguire injury adds to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's problems as Manchester United face another SIX fixtures in January

* Harry Maguire in race to be fit for semi-final clash with Manchester City City
* England defender picked up a knock in Manchester United's draw with Wolves
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already had to do without five defenders at Molineux
* Solskjaer is also hoping Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard will recover

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn't want to spend a moment longer at Molineux than he had to, and by the end of this drab stalemate neither did anybody else.

Manchester United have an eighth fixture to shoehorn into January in between their two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City that gets under way at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

To add to Solskjaer's problems, Harry Maguire faces a battle to be fit after picking up a knock in the first half on Saturday. The England centre back was seen limping on to the team bus afterwards.

The United boss said that Axel Tuanzebe, Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah weren't ready to face Wolves as they recover from injury, so he is likely to play Phil Jones alongside Victor Lindelof in central defence if Maguire is ruled out.

'We weren't sure if he should continue in the second half but he was adamant he was going to be OK,' said Solskjaer. 'He struggled a little bit but let's see how he recovers. It's not many days — Sunday, Monday then we go again Tuesday.'

Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw missed Saturday's game through illness, and Solskjaer is waiting to see if they recover in time. 'I hope so,' he added. 'They've had a night or two in their own beds and hopefully some paracetamol. We'll check on Monday.'

Solskjaer will also hope to have forward Anthony Martial back available from illness

Solskjaer defended United's late arrival at Molineux just 75 minutes before kick-off — 'have you been in these dressing-rooms? You don't want to stay here for too long!' — after earning a replay that neither club really wants.

Marcus Rashford hit the bar with a deflected shot and VAR rejected a penalty appeal for Leander Dendoncker's challenge on Brandon Williams, but United failed to register a shot on target in a domestic game for the first time in five years.

Wolves also hit the woodwork through Raul Jimenez and saw Matt Doherty's headed goal chalked off for handball, but couldn't repeat their quarter-final win over United here last season.

'I headed it down and it hit my hand so I knew straight away,' said Doherty, who backed Wolves to win at Old Trafford after adding another fixture to a schedule that has already seen them play 36 times this season. 'Whoever plays, we'll go there to win,' he added.

Forward Jesse Lingard also missed the FA Cup draw against Wolves because he was ill
