Manchester United will hope Nemanja Vidic does not suffer a recurrence of his calf problem when he makes an early return from injury for Serbia on Tuesday evening. Returning: Nemanja Vidic is preparing to come back from injury against Estonia By Mark Ogden 10:30PM BST 28 Mar 2011 Mark's Twitter The United captain is set to captain Serbia against Estonia in Tallinn on Tuesday, just two weeks after suffering the calf strain that had left manager Sir Alex Ferguson concerned about the defender’s prospects of facing West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday. Vidic had initially been omitted from Vladimir Petrovic’s squad for the Euro 2012 qualifying double-header against Northern Ireland and Estonia. But the centre-half underwent intensive treatment at United’s Carrington training ground last week before flying to Belgrade in time to watch the 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland last Friday. Vidic trained with his Serbian team-mates on Saturday before flying to snowbound Estonia on Sunday, where Petrovic declared the 29 year-old fit to play. Petrovic said: “Vidic is with us again and he is ready to play from the beginning. My only concern is about the condition of the pitch because it is a winter’s landscape.” Although United confirmed on Monday that Vidic had joined up with Serbia, it is unclear as to Ferguson’s thoughts on his captain representing his country so soon after suffering an injury which forced him to miss the Champions League victory against Marseille and 1-0 league win against Bolton.

Re: Punggawa United - tour of duty ... :)
Welbeck masuk lapangan di menit 81 menggantikan Ashley Young ....
not bad lah ... senior experience ______________________________________________ England 1-1 Ghana Capello: Welbeck selection no trick Soccernet - March 30, 2011 Fabio Capello has denied handing Danny Welbeck his England debut in Tuesday night's 1-1 friendly draw just to steer him away from Ghana's clutches. Welbeck was only called into Capello's squad on the morning of the match following the withdrawal of Aaron Lennon through injury. Yet, along with Wolves' Matt Jarvis, Welbeck was still given his first taste of international action in the 1-1 draw with the World Cup quarter-finalists who he is also eligible for. In itself, it will not prevent him playing for Ghana as tonight's encounter was a friendly. However, Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic said after the match Welbeck has "chosen England" and the visiting supporters gave loud boos when the Manchester United youngster, who is having such an excellent season on loan at Sunderland, made his entrance. "Absolutely not,'' said Capello, when asked whether he was merely blocking Ghana from picking Welbeck in the future. I work for England. I always select the best players for England. Yesterday, Aaron Lennon was injured. That is why I picked Welbeck.'' In truth, the striker has been mentioned often enough as a potential England striker, with Sir Alex Ferguson predicting at the start of last season that Welbeck would end up at the World Cup. "Danny Welbeck is going to be a very important player for England and Manchester United,'' said Capello. "I monitored him last year. He was an important player then. I went to see him three times but then he got injured. However, he is a really good player.'' The Welbeck issue added controversy to a fabulous evening, which dispelled the theory of Wembley playing host to a meaningless friendly.

Reds stars on track for 2012 A number of United players remain on track for Euro 2012, after helping their national teams to claim or consolidate top spots in their qualifying groups. Portugal's 1-0 home win over Norway was a vital one - it enabled Nani's side to match their opponents on 10 points and go top of Group H. Sporting Lisbon striker Helder Postiga scored the decisive goal shortly after half-time in Lisbon, where Nani played 86 minutes before being replaced by Silvestre Varela. The Portuguese have three qualifiers to complete in the autumn - the final one, in Copenhagen on 11 October, currently has the makings of a play-off as Denmark also have 10 points and lie second after winning 2-0 in Iceland on Saturday night. Republic of Ireland are in a similar position; points-wise they are also in a three-way tie at the top of Group B, with Russia and Slovakia. All three sides won on Saturday, with United's John O'Shea helping the Irish to beat Macedonia 2-0 away. Robbie Keane's 50th and 51st goals for his country, both scored in the first half, were enough to clinch an impressive victory. O'Shea played the full 90 minutes in Skopje and was relieved when a penalty he conceded shortly before the break was missed by Ivan Trickovski. England retained pole position in Group G but only just. Rio Ferdinand and co were trailing 0-2 to Switzerland at Wembley following a quick-fire double by Tranquillo Barnetta, but Frank Lampard's penalty halved the arrears for the interval and then Ashley Young equalised just six minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute for England's first scorer. Fabio Capello's men now have the same number of points as Montenegro who were also held at home, 1-1 by Bulgaria. Patrice Evra was an unused sub in Minsk where clear Group D leaders France were held 1-1 by Belarus. Both goals came around the midway point in the first half; the hosts took the lead through an own goal by Barcelona defender Eric Abidal but they were only in front for two minutes until Chelsea winger Florent Malouda equalised. Three young Reds were on international duty on Sunday afternoon, as England's Under-21s warmed up for this month's European Championships by beating Norway 2-0 at St Mary's, home of Southampton. Chris Smalling played the full match, while Danny Welbeck came off at half-time to be replaced by United team-mate Tom Cleverley. All three are hoping to feature when England play their first match in the Denmark-hosted tournament against Spain next Sunday.

Patrice helps France to victory Patrice Evra completed 90 minutes in Donetsk on Monday as France beat Ukraine 4-1 in an international friendly. The 30-year-old, who was an unused substitute in France’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Belarus last Friday, came into the team for Eric Abidal, who put through his own net in that 1-1 draw. Evra featured against Ukraine from the first whistle, although couldn't prevent a clean sheet as the home side took the lead just after the interval through veteran midfielder Anatoliy Tymoschuk. His long-range shot somehow beat Marseille stopper Steve Mandanda, although France boss Laurent Blanc later refused to criticise his goalkeeper for the error. Gameiro pulled one back almost instantly for Les Bleus before debutants Marvin Martin (two goals) and Younes Kaboul handed France victory with three late goals. Until the 87th minute, scores were locked at 1-1. France now face Poland on Thursday 9 June in another friendly before Evra commences his summer break. Even though Patrice will be keen to relax on holiday, you can bet United's Champions League final defeat (and his third loss on club football’s biggest stage) will nag away at him. Speaking immediately after the Wembley loss to Barcelona, Evra was determined to exact revenge. “I want to come back to the final and play against Barcelona again," he said. "Manchester United had a good season – not a great season because we didn’t win [in the Champions League final]. “But we have still won the league and we are going to win the league against next year, and make sure we win the Champions League as well.” Evra is scheduled to report back to Carrington for pre-season training in early July.
