Jose Mourinho wants Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has identified Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez as a transfer target for Manchester United, according to reports.

Mourinho is widely considered to be the front-runner to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford in the event of the Dutchman’s sacking, with numerous reports suggesting that he has already signed a pre-contract agreement with the club.

Mourinho is said to be in the process of drawing up his transfer wish list ahead of his Man United move and Rodriguez tops it.

The Colombian joined Madrid in 2014 in a deal said to be worth £63m and he initially impressed during his debut campaign at the Bernabeu.

However, James has found chances harder to come by under Zinedine Zidane this term and he is reportedly growing frustrated at the lack of opportunities.

United may be put off following the failed transfer of Angel Di Maria last season but the fact is that James is a world-class talent and it is not often that one becomes available. United have money to spend and it would be spent wisely if they did sign the forward.

West Ham linked with audacious bid for Man United star

West Ham United have reportedly identified Manchester United star defender Chris Smalling as a possible summer transfer target, according to The Brentwood Gazette.

The Hammers have had an excellent season and are likely to try and make a statement in the transfer market this summer before moving to the Olympic Stadium in 2016-17.

Smalling has been a mainstay in the United team this season and one of the few admirable performers for an underachieving Red Devils outfit.

He is also set to feature at this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament, with the former Fulham man regarded as one of the best English defenders currently available to Roy Hodgson.

Signing Smalling seems unlikely but should Slaven Bilic’s men be able to pull off such an audacious deal it would really reiterate the club’s ambitions of challenging for Champions League qualification on a perennial basis.

A fee in the region of £20 million is being touted in the report.

The 21-year-old scored a penalty for Holland against England at Wembley last week and had scored 15 goals in his previous 13 games for AZ.

United and Everton are both in the market for strikers this summer.

United also watched £65million-rated Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang score his 33rd goal of the season for Borussia Dortmund in their 3-2 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Manchester United expect to complete deal for Feyenoord wonderkid Tahith Chong

* United and Feyenoord's talks over a transfer are at an advanced stage
* Arsenal and Chelsea have been keen on the 16-year-old Dutch left winger

Manchester United expect to complete a swoop for Feyenoord wonderkid Tahith Chong.

Talks over a move for the talented 16-year-old midfielder are at an advanced stage and are set to be completed in the coming days.

United have been hot on the heels of Chong for months, Sportsmail revealing their interest in January.

Manchester United are close to finalising a deal for Feyenoord youngster Tahith Chong, pictured left

And the Old Trafford club look to have won the race to land the teenager, who had also interested Arsenal and Chelsea.

Chong, a Holland Under 17 international, is predominantly a left winger, but is versatile enough to play in all three attacking midfield slots.

Feyenoord put forward a strong case for him to stay, and as recently as February, Chong was quoted as saying that his first choice would be to remain with the Eredivisie outfit and progress to their first team.

However, the progress of youngsters such as Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah at Old Trafford has offered encouragement to the Dutchman.

Chong is no stranger to going abroad to play his football. Born in Willemstad, the capital city of the Caribbean island nation of Curacao, Chong moved to Holland and has been a part of the Feyenoord academy set-up since the age of 10.

Manchester United Transfer News: Fresh Sergio Busquets, Romelu Lukaku Rumours

Manchester United are reportedly poised to capitalise should contract negotiations between Barcelona and Sergio Busquets continue to drag on.

According Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Jamie Anderson of the Daily Star), the midfielder is seeking a bump in salary, one that would see him earn around £200,000 per week. The Spain international has a contract that runs until 2019 and is said to be in talks about an extension; however, according to Anderson, Busquets is holding out until his demands are met: “Barcelona have yet to respond to his request, and United are poised to pounce if negotiations break down.”

While understated in his play, the 27-year-old has been a central figure in Barcelona’s recent successes.

At the base of the team’s midfield, Busquets’ willingness to take possession in tight positions, play incisive passes forward and dictate the tempo of a match is central to the way they play. This season, he’s been wonderful overall, with Barcelona dominating in La Liga and in the UEFA Champions League for much of the 2015-16 campaign.

United are definitely one. While the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick are decent deep distributors, neither are on Busquets’ level. The Barca man’s defensive awareness and timing in the tackle would also bring a structure to the team from which they can improve their attacking forays forward.

Barcelona will not want to let Busquets depart, though. To have a player in the squad who is not only so vital to the blueprint, but who has come through the club’s academy and is immersed in the culture, is so important. The midfielder deserves to be among the top earners at the Camp Nou and will surely be paid in keeping with that.

Romelu Lukaku Favours Manchester United Move

According to the Daily Telegraph (h/t David Wright of the Daily Express), Everton striker Romelu Lukaku favours a move to Manchester United over Chelsea this summer.

The Blues look set to miss out on European football next season, and according to Wright, that could prove crucial in the Belgium international’s decision when it comes to his long-term future. It’s noted United are willing to spend more than the Londoners on the player, too—a whopping £55 million—because Chelsea sold Lukaku to the Toffees for £28 million in 2014.

The former Chelsea man fits the bill for the Red Devils. Lukaku is a forward who is already an established Premier League goalscorer, and this campaign, he’s made sharp refinements to his game. But there is still significant room for improvement, too, and Old Trafford could well be the venue for him to achieve his full potential.

United may have Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford already, although the prospect of getting Lukaku in is one that should excite fans. This is a player who has been emboldened this season, and with a more regular stream of attacking support, he could be even more of a force at the point of the attack.

Everton are renowned for their stubbornness when it comes to selling players, although given they’re currently languishing down in the bottom half of the table, it’d be very difficult to keep the player contented should he wish to leave. United, if they can take advantage of the situation, could acquire one of the finest strikers in world football.

Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Alex Sandro, Robert Lewandowski Rumours

Juventus have informed Manchester United they'll need to pay an eye-watering £40 million if they're to land left-back Alex Sandro this summer, but the Red Devils have been given hope in their hunt to sign Robert Lewandowski.

According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, United have "made an approach" to sign full-back Sandro, but Juve aren't in the market to sell and have slapped a huge valuation on their man (h/t Daily Star's Alex Harris).

The Red Devils were rocked early this season after losing left-back Luke Shaw to a leg fracture, and there's a chance the England international will need much time getting back to his best—if he ever does.

GianlucaDiMarzio.com translator David Amoyal recently provided insight as to how much more effective Juventus are with Sandro, 25, bombing down their left flank as opposed to playing without him.

The Brazilian has come to feature as a major player in Turin since arriving from Porto last summer in a deal worth €26 million (roughly £21 million), and Juventus can expect to make a major profit on their player if they do sell.

FourFourTwo's Adam Digby showed a glimpse of Sandro's impact in a recent Serie A encounter against Sassuolo, which depicted just how much of a threat the South American can be in enemy territory.

United allowed Patrice Evra—perhaps the club's last, genuine star full-back—to leave on a free transfer in 2014, and it was the Old Lady the free agent ironically picked as his destination.

Two years on and manager Louis van Gaal may look to Turin himself this summer in the search for another elite option at left-back, albeit an expensive one should they indeed pursue £40 million man Sandro.

In attack, the Red Devils' hopes have been lifted by Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski's recent comments on his future at the Allianz Arena, where he's in no rush to extend his stay.

Speaking to German broadcaster Sky Sports News earlier this week, the Poland international said he's not thinking about his future amid speculation his current club are hoping to extend his contract (h/t Goal's Stefan Coerts):

Quote:
I do not have a specific plan for my future. I do not have a career path set out or a plan where I want to play next. I am feeling very good at Bayern and my future is not really an issue right now. I do not feel any pressure [that other clubs are keeping tabs on me].

I do not have to think about what to do next, but I have to stay calm. Winning titles with Bayern is my top priority now. I just want to help the team and I am giving my all.
That, of course, isn't to say Bayern have anything to worry about considering Lewandowski is contracted to the Allianz Arena until 2019 and probably isn't in any hurry to leave a club at which he's found the form of his career in the last two seasons.

United have an opening for an experienced striker after the exits of Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Javier Hernandez in 2015, and Lewandowski's refusal to commit to a long-term stay at Bayern bodes well for any transfer dreams.

Manchester United Transfer News: Yuto Nagatomo Agent Reveals Offer, Top Rumours

The agent of Inter full-back Yuto Nagatomo has provided further confirmation the defender rejected the chance to join Manchester United in January. Plus, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly "in contact" with Jose Mourinho regarding a possible reunion at Old Trafford.

Nagatomo's representative, Federico Pastorello, was quoted by Metro's Sean Kearns and said his client's desire to remain at the San Siro saw him reject United's advances during the winter window: "The announcement [contract] will be made shortly. He could have ended up in the Bundesliga, for more money.

"We’re talking a multi-year deal. In January, he could have gone to Manchester United, during the last day of the transfer window."

A deadline-day move to Manchester could have seen Nagatomo provide Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal with a very welcome option at full-back, an area in which United have been plagued by injuries this term.

The Japan international's current Inter contract is set to expire this summer, but Italian outlet CalcioMercato detailed his new Nerazzurri deal may be as long as four years.

United lost left-back Luke Shaw to a leg fracture near the start of this season, while Antonio Valencia and last summer's signing, Matteo Darmian, have each endured spells injured, shortening options at right-back.

Nagatomo, on the other hand, has seen his status at Inter improve in recent months, making 10 starts for the club in their last 14 Serie A matches, featuring on both sides of the back line.

That versatility in particular would have been much appreciated at Old Trafford in recent months, and Nagatomo's ability to fill in on the right or left could have saved Van Gaal some blushes.

That being said, the lack of options in defence has resulted in youngsters such as Guillermo Varela and Timothy Fosu-Mensah making their surges into the first team, meaning it hasn't all been for nought.

While the starlets emerge at United, one veteran who could be on his way if alleged managerial target Mourinho arrives at United this summer is outbound Paris Saint-Germain striker Ibrahimovic.

According to the Telegraph, Ibrahimovic and Mourinho are "still pals" and text each other on a regular basis (h/t the Daily Star's Rhys Turrell). Ibrahimovic is set to leave PSG this summer, and he recently intensified speculation of a reunion after speaking highly of the axed Chelsea boss Mourinho, per Metro's Kearns:

Quote:
Jose will be a success anywhere he coaches, that is just the man he is.

I respect him because he says whatever he wants, but when you listen to him what he says is always right.

Of course he is a coach that has much knowledge, but it is more than that, he also really cares.

That is why players who play for him are ready to die for him. He cares, so you care.
Mourinho and Ibrahimovic spent one season at Inter together in 2008-09, where the Sweden superstar scored 29 goals in 47 appearances before leaving for Barcelona, another outfit with whom the former shared ties.

Ibrahimovic, 34, may already be enticed by the thought of finally conquering the Premier League, and the prospect of doing so under old mentor Mourinho could be a factor that seals the deal.

Manchester United Transfer News: Bernardo Silva Raid Eyed, Riyad Mahrez Rumours

Manchester United are reportedly set to beat Juventus to the capture of AS Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva and are also linked with Riyad Mahrez, whom Leicester City fear they may lose in the summer.

According to Tuttosport (h/t the Daily Star's Luke Gardener), Silva turned down a January move to the Bianconeri and the Red Devils could snap him up for £16 million.

The youngster has impressed in Ligue 1 over the last two seasons with some composed and dynamic performances in midfield, and his versatility allows him to operate centrally as a No. 10 or out wide.

At 21, Silva has already established himself as a key performer for the Ligue 1 side; he has scored five goals and assisted three more this season. He's also made seven appearances for Portugal after making his senior international debut in March last year.

According to Squawka, he has created 31 chances this season and completed 40 take-ons. He has also shown his willingness to track back and help out his defence with 28 tackles and 30 interceptions.

Silva is among the brightest and most exciting prospects operating in Ligue 1, and Juventus' failed bid indicates he's already attracting the attention of Europe's elite.

United could use an injection of excitement into their play, and the Portuguese would be an upgrade on Jesse Lingard, so £16 million could turn out to be a real bargain for a player with his potential.

Meanwhile, per the Mirror's Adrian Kajumba, Leicester "expect" to lose either Mahrez or N'Golo Kante at the end of the season, even if they pull off the most incredible title win in Premier League history. United are said to be one of the host of clubs interested in the Algerian.

Mahrez has been in electric form throughout the campaign and is a big part of the Foxes' title push. Football writer Liam Canning believes as much and is one of many who expects the winger to win Player of the Season.

The pacey 25-year-old possesses boundless creativity, the desire to beat players and an excellent finish—qualities United have lacked from many of their stars this season.

Kajumba noted he could cost upward of £25 million, but as with Silva, that price tag is well within the Red Devils' means, and the impact he could have would be significant.

Louis van Gaal insists Manchester United won't miss out on the best players if they finish outside top four because he says they will 'pay big to land world's top stars'

* Louis van Gaal not worried about finishing outside Premier League top four
* He says that the high wages Manchester United pay can attract players
* There is little margin for error as United try and scramble for top four finish

Louis van Gaal insists Manchester United’s transfer business will not be affected by missing out on the top four — because of the high wages they pay.

United face the prospect of failing to qualify for the Champions League for the second time in three years, but van Gaal believes they could still attract the continent’s elite this summer.

The club are working hard to sign Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches in a deal worth more than £46million. They have watched Wolfsburg’s 33-year-old Brazilian Naldo as a defensive stop gap. Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is also on their radar for about £50m.

Van Gaal said: ‘Qualifying for the Champions League would help me when I am speaking to players in the summer.

'It always helps. But I want to stress that Manchester United are such a big club, and our salaries are so good here, that a lot of players will come here even if we don’t qualify for the Champions League.’

United face Tottenham on Sunday knowing there is little margin for error in the scramble to finish fourth.

Yet their record against the top third of the Premier League is unrivalled, averaging two points a game, while Van Gaal also hopes Manchester City’s continued involvement in the Champions League can give his own team an edge.

He said: ‘I was very happy that City drew 2-2 against PSG. They are still in the Champions League and that means they have more matches.

‘It is better for us that they have the pressure of the Champions League. On the other hand, I have to say, that when you are in the Champions League, it gives you a big boost.

‘It depends on how the players react and how they cope with the pressure.

‘We have to win our games because we are dependent on our competitors. If Manchester City win all their games then we cannot close the gap — and the same is true with Arsenal.’

Jose eyes £100m double deal & Serie A goal machine close to United

Mourinho eyes Real Madrid duo worth £100m combined

According to the Spanish media sources, Man United’s incoming manager Jose Mourinho has named world-class Real Madrid duo, James Rodriguez and Raphael Varane as two of his top transfer targets for the Red Devils.

The 53-year-old Portuguese manager is expected to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford in the summer, though some recent reports suggest this deal is far from done.

Still, former Chelsea head coach is already planning a double raid on his old club Real Madrid for whomever he joins next.

The Reports from Spanish Fichajes claim that the Portuguese coach is planning for signings at Manchester United and has instructed the club to get him Rodriguez and Varane. Both stars have struggled for both playing time and form this season, but are rated highly by Mourinho as he looks to improve a struggling Red Devils side.

Meanwhile, Manchester Untied are also willing to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi. But the legendary former defender and now, vice-president of Serie A club, Javier Zanetti insists the club are desperate to keep Mauro Icardi at the San Siro.

When Zanetti was asked about the potential transfer of Argentine star, he replied: “Icardi is our striker and our captain. We hope that Mauro can stay with us.”

Mourinho wants to make €32m Serie A goal machine his first Man United signing

The reports from Daily Star claim that Jose Mourinho, who has been heavily linked with a move to Man United to replace Louis Van Gaal, keen to make Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi his first signing at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old Argentine, who was appointed captain by Roberto Mancini this term, would provide serious firepower and leadership to United’s troubled ranks. Classy striker was pivotal in Inter’s early-season title aspirations and has now scored 13 times in 29 appearances.

The Red Devils have been offered a glimmer of hope after Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claimed Icardi would be sold if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League. The 2010 Champions League winners are currently fourth in Serie A, five points behind third-placed Roma, who have a crucial game in hand.

Nicknamed El Niño del partido, and O cañito, Icardi is a quick, tactically intelligent, and physically strong striker, with good technique, and an eye for goal, who can also play off of his team-mates. In 2013, Don Balón listed him as one of the top 100 young players born after 1992.

Man United stunned as Pep Guardiola agrees deal for £35m United target

According to the Mirror, Man United have handed a massive transfer blow, as their long-time target Aymeric Laporte has agreed a deal in principle to leave Athletic Bilbao for Manchester City in the summer.

The 21-year-old France international has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford ever since the previous summer window as the Red Devils look to reinforce their back line.

However, as the same sources claim, the talented centre-back is keen to join Bayern boss Pep Guardiola at the Eithad when he arrives at the end of the season.

Laporte was also on the transfer list of La Liga giants Barcelona, but interest in him cooled down following an injury picked up while playing for the France Under-21 squad.

The Citizens look to be willing to take the risk on the Athletic star despite his knock after building a reputation to be known as one of the world’s top defensive prospects.

Highly-rated Frenchman has already participated in 45 games in all competitions for the Spanish club this season, so far managing to find the back of the net five times, while providing another two assists.

However, the arrival of young Frenchman would not be understood to affect City’s interest in John Stones, with the Everton and England defender also a Chelsea target.
