UNITED STARS SET FOR INTERNATIONAL ACTION

The international break is upon us and no fewer than 16 Manchester United players will represent their nations in a host of friendlies and crucial Euro 2016 qualifying matches.

THURSDAY 8 OCTOBER

The international action - from a United perspective at least - will begin when Bastian Schweinsteiger and Germany face the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium, knowing that a victory would earn them qualification from Group D for next summer’s much-anticipated European Championships in France.

Elsewhere, Northern Ireland will progress to their first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup in Spain if they can overcome Greece at Windsor Park. Paddy McNair has been named in Michael O’Neill’s squad and the versatile defender hopes to collect his fourth international cap.

Anthony Martial and Morgan Schneiderlin could represent France on Thursday evening when Les Blues host Armenia for a friendly match at Allianz Riviera, a multi-purpose stadium that is mostly used by Ligue 1 side OGC Nice but is also occasionally home to rugby union giants Toulon.

FRIDAY 9 OCTOBER

Argentina host Ecuador in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup qualifying group in South America. Marcos Rojo was initially named in the squad but will not line up against his Reds team-mate Antonio Valencia due to the hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since the win against Southampton. The game will kick off at 01:00 BST.

Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have been called up by Roy Hodgson to represent England in the penultimate Group E game against Estonia at Wembley. The Three Lions have already qualified, but hope to maintain a 100 per cent record after winning all of their eight matches so far.

David De Gea and Juan Mata should both be in action when Spain take on Luxembourg at Las Gaunas, a 16,000 capacity stadium that is home to UD Logrones in the Spanish Segunda Division B.

SATURDAY 10 OCTOBER

Matteo Darmian and Italy travel to Azerbaijan to face Italy at the Baku National Stadium, an impressive 68,700 capacity venue that was opened in March. Antonio Conte's men are top of Group H with 18 points from eight games and will qualify for France 2016 with a win this weekend.

Daley Blind and Memphis Depay have a huge game on their hands when Netherlands face Kazakhstan in a must-win tie, with the Dutch fourth in Group A. They need third-placed Turkey to lose one of their two remaining matches against Czech Republic and Iceland for a chance to earn a play-off place.

Later on, at 19:45 BST, Marouane Fellaini’s Belgium tackle Andorra as Marc Wilmots’ side continue to pursue high-flying Wales in Group B. Adnan Januzaj, who is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, has not been named in the latest squad.

SUNDAY 11 OCTOBER

The second batch of Euro 2016 fixtures begins with McNair and Northern Ireland hosting Finland, hopefully with qualification already in the bag. Schweinsteiger's Germany are also at home, to Georgia in Munich.

MONDAY 12 OCTOBER

United's four England internationals - Rooney, Carrick, Smalling, Jones – all hope to play in the final group match in Lithuania, while De Gea and Mata complete the long journey to Ukraine with Spain.

TUESDAY 13 OCTOBER

The international break finishes with four United-related fixtures on Tuesday, with Belgium (Fellaini) hosting Israel and Holland (Blind, Memphis) tackling Czech Republic. Italy (Darmian) also take on Norway, before Ecuador (Valencia) face Bolivia.

UNITED STARS HEAD OFF ON INTERNATIONAL DUTY

Numerous Manchester United team-mates could face each other on Friday 13 and Tuesday 17 November when the international break serves up some intriguing fixtures.

England have four Reds in their squad with the club's Player of the Month, Chris Smalling, being joined by Phil Jones, Michael Carrick and the country's recently-crowned record scorer Wayne Rooney. Their first opponents Spain have called up David De Gea and Juan Mata, who'll both be hoping to feature in Friday's friendly at Estadio José Rico Pérez in Alicante.

Four nights later, England will be at Wembley to meet France, who have named Anthony Martial and Morgan Schneiderlin in their squad for that match and the preceding clash with Germany. United's French duo could play against their Old Trafford colleague Bastian Schweinsteiger at the Stade de France on Friday.

Germany will then play neighbours Netherlands in Hanover on 17 November - the Dutch have United utility player Daley Blind and winger Memphis in their squad for the game against the world champions and the earlier encounter with Wales in Cardiff.

Marouane Fellaini is in the Belgium squad for Italy's visit to Brussels on 13 November and the subsequent meeting with Mata and De Gea's Spain at the Koning Boudewifnstadion. Matteo Darmian is set to keep his place in the Italian squad who will host Romania in Bologna a few days after facing the Belgians.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill is hopeful that United's Paddy McNair could still join up with his squad for Friday's visit of Latvia to Windsor Park, even though he has not been named on the initial 23-man list. The young defender is still recovering from an abdominal injury with O'Neill promising to "monitor him over the next couple of days."

Across the Atlantic, Argentina will face Brazil in a 2018 World Cup qualifier on Friday at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires. Reds duo Marcos Rojo and goalkeeper Sergio Romero are both in La Albiceleste's squad for that game and their other qualifying match away to Colombia at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla.

That issue has subsequently forced Fellaini out of Belgium's squad for the upcoming friendlies against Italy and Spain, it was confirmed on Sunday evening.

Red Devils manager Marc Wilmots wished Fellaini and Jordan Lukaku a speedy recovery on Twitter.

Oostende left-back Lukaku - younger brother of Everton striker Romelu - and Fellaini have been replaced by Gent midfielder Sven Kums and Everton forward Kevin Mirallas.

Manchester United team-mates will go head to head live on MUTV when Netherlands face France on Friday, one of numerous fixtures in this current international break to feature Reds stars.

Daley Blind and Memphis Depay are in the
Dutch squad for the friendly encounter in
Amsterdam as they build for the next World Cup qualifying campaign after missing out
on the 2016 European Championships.

Meanwhile Les Bleus, hosts of this
summer's major tournament, can count
upon Anthony Martial to provide plenty of
excitement in attack. The game will be
shown exclusively live in the UK on
United's official television channel .

Netherlands' subsequent match will be
against England at Wembley on Tuesday
29 March. Injuries to club colleagues
including captain Wayne Rooney have left
Chris Smalling as the only United player in
Roy Hodgson's party for that game plus
the preceding one on Saturday,
when Bastian Schweinsteiger and Germany
will provide the opposition.

Schweinsteiger will also face a team-mate
on Tuesday 29 March, when the Germans
meet Italy, as Matteo Darmian is in the
Azzurri's squad for their schedule, which
also includes a clash in Spain this
Thursday. David De Gea and Juan Mata are
both in the European champions' ranks
with a friendly against Romania also on the
horizon.

Paddy McNair is set to represent Northern
Ireland against Wales on Thursday and
Slovenia next Monday while Marouane
Fellaini looks likely to play for Belgium
against Portugal next Tuesday.

Guillermo Varela has been handed his first
call-up to Uruguay's senior squad for their
World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and
