Fellaini Keluhkan Beratnya Latihan United

Roy Keane saja memuji penampilan Fellaini. Semoga duet Keane - Scholes bisa terulang kembali dengan kehadiran Carrick (Cleverley) - Fellaini.

Marouane Fellaini Yet to Prove He Belongs on the Champions League Stage

Marouane Fellaini was bought for nights like these—Champions League games away from home, played in hostile environments, when the result is decided as much by strength of character as by skill and technical ability.

Shakhtar Donetsk aren't the same team that beat Chelsea in last season's competition.

Star names like Fernandinho and Willian have moved on.

But the Donbass Arena, filled with 50,000 screaming Ukrainian fans waving shirts over their heads in temperatures just above freezing, is still an unpleasant place to go.

It's a place that should suit Fellaini, who likes to conduct games with a two-by-four rather than a slender baton.

It says much than that, with more than 20 minutes to go and Manchester United holding on to a slender lead, that David Moyes replaced the Belgian with Ryan Giggs, a 39-year-old making a record number of Champions League appearances.

Simply put, it wasn't Fellaini's night.

And there were very few chants of 'United afro, United afro' drifting off into the Donetsk night.

Next to Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley in the centre of midfield, with Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia on the touchlines, it should have been a night to show off his qualities

He wasn't helped by a pedantic referee, but passes went astray too many times and his first touch sometimes resembled a child's first ever touch of a football.

It was a night when he should have kept calm and passed to Carrick.

Instead, Moyes was left pulling his hair out.

He had his good moments.

After 18 minutes, he used his strength and physique to hold the ball up, roll his defender, and cross for Welbeck to poke United in front.

But it was one of too few positives from a man who has cost £27.5m.

His size and stature make it easy to forget that Fellaini is still a young man.

And at 25, he's still learning about the Champions League.

He might have 42 caps for Belgium, but he's never been to a major tournament and he's discovering that Europe's top club competition is another step up.

Like the manager who signed him, Fellaini has endured a difficult start to life at Old Trafford.

He's yet to win over a majority of the fans who had hoped to see Thiago Alcantara or Cesc Fabregas in a redshirt this season.

Stuttering performances against City and Shakhtar haven't helped his case.

And, at the moment, he's wearing the big fee like an over-sized albatross around his neck.

But given Moyes' lack of options in midfield, Fellaini will get plenty more chances to impress.

Cleverley or Anderson have yet to show this season that they are more capable.

United's point in Donetsk means they can look forward with confidence to their next European game, against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.

Three wins at home and three draws away would secure safe passage through to the knock-out rounds after Christmas.

It will give Fellaini more opportunities to prove he belongs at this club. And on this stage.

Marouane Fellaini Hints at Centre-Back Role for Manchester United

Upon signing Marouane Fellaini earlier this summer, Manchester United fans may have looked up to the heavens as if at least a small portion of their prayers had been answered.

Finally, the Red Devils had signed a strong, leading central midfielder—the sort the club had been crying out for over a period of several years.

However, it now seems apparent that the towering Belgian may line up under David Moyes at centre-back in yet another drastic change of positioning for the playmaker.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, per Mirror’s Richard Beech, Fellaini is reported as saying his attributes suit the duties of a central defender and that he’d welcome a return to the position he’s played before:

Quote:
As a young player I played up front, on the wing, in midfield and when I started in the reserves at Standard Liege I played centre-back.

It was a good position for me because I am tall and good in the air, but I can also pass the ball. Maybe it's a position for me in the future?
It’s common knowledge that the 25-year-old filled in excellently as an attacking No. 10 for Moyes at Everton last season, managing to score 11 Premier League goals in the process.

Despite that successful form, however, the Belgian seems to know exactly where his limitations lie, going on to note:

Quote:
My best position is defensive midfield. During the last few years with David Moyes I played further forward and I scored some important goals, which is why he kept me there and I liked it because I was young and learning.
Regardless of where Fellaini might think his best position is, what’s clearer is that the player is among the most versatile in the English top flight.

Should his claims be true that Moyes has another centre-back option on his hands, a successor to the ageing pair of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic may already exist on United's books.

So far in his Manchester United career, Fellaini has patrolled an anchoring role for the Red Devils, allowing Michael Carrick to take up more advanced positions in Moyes’ midfield.

Of course, the Scottish manager still has Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to call upon in the centre of defence, but Fellaini is an experienced and assured option to throw into that mix.

For now at least, Fellaini’s responsibilities lie closer to the middle of the pitch, but Moyes says he is learning more about his United squad by the game, so he will soon know whether to experiment with a player he’s managed for more than half a decade.

Fellaini confirms Arsenal interest
DailyMail 28/10/2013

Marouane Fellaini has confirmed that Arsenal made enquiries about signing him from Everton this summer and admits he is struggling to make an immediate impression at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager David Moyes shelled out £27.5million for the Belgian on the last day of the transfer window following a saga that dragged out over four months.

Quote:
Fellaini said: ‘I don’t want to tell you everything what happened during the transfer.’
Quote:
Talking to beIN Sport he added: ‘This was done at the last minute. In a transfer window, there is always a list of players, you never know if it’s true or not. But for me, I knew [Moyes] was interested in me.
Quote:
‘Chelsea? No comment. Arsenal? It’s true, they were interested, but Manchester United convinced me to sign for them.’
Fellaini, who is carrying a wrist injury but was criticised for his ball retention after United’s 1-1 draw against Southampton, admitted he is frustrated with his early performances for United.

Quote:
He added: ‘David Moyes has given me confidence. When I was in trouble early at Everton, he helped me and supported me. He did everything for me to become a great player.
Quote:
‘I was criticised, nobody knew who I was. I succeeded because I worked a lot. That’s why I’m playing for Manchester United today.
Quote:
‘[I am not trying to] replace Scholes or Carrick or anyone. I try to play my own game. It is difficult at the moment, but I will succeed.’

Fellaini Needs Time, Patience to Carve out Inevitable Success at Man United

Marouane Fellaini has endured an extremely rocky start to his Manchester United career.

After completing a deadline day transfer from Everton with just minutes to spare, the club came under immediate scrutiny for "overpaying" for their target.

The BBC confirmed the Belgian had a £23.5 million release clause inserted into his Toffees contract that expired on July 31, but no club came in to pay the fee. Roberto Martinez admitted to celebrating, then proceeded to plan for the season under the assumption Fellaini was part of his squad.

Whether it was due to missing out on all other targets or just bad planning, David Moyes eventually swooped for his former charge at the last second and paid what The Guardian believe to be £27.5 million—£4 million more than they would have paid had they acted a month sooner.

Target acquired, but in all the wrong circumstances.

The nature of the transfer brought about a black cloud over Fellaini's head. Before he'd even kicked a ball, he was the desperation buy, the overpriced lump who'd been replaced by James McCarthy with ease.

The fact that the Belgian is an excellent, near-world-class player was then somehow lost in the mail. It became popular to bash Fellaini, with tweets such as this severely devaluing his talent. Proponents of his skill level were fast becoming drowned out.

Tuesday night's debacle at Anoeta is perhaps a marquee performance for all the wrong reasons.

Fellaini played rather well for 89 minutes against Real Sociedad, executing tackles and passing well in the heart of Moyes' midfield, but accumulated five petty fouls and got sent off for two yellow cards.

Throughout the game, he couldn't keep his elbows to himself. That's not a new element to his game, either.

It's a new low for the £27.5 million man, who has disappointed for a certifiable portion of each of his starts so far in red and black. He was taken to pieces at the Etihad Stadium by a rampant Manchester City, and admitted to The Express that training is harder at Old Trafford than it was at Goodison Park.

Right now, there are thousands of United fans who wish to see him exiled just as badly as they do Ashley Young for his dive on the same evening, but that's not the right stance to take.

Fellaini is a world-class player once he gets going, and although the slow start is a little questionable considering the time he's spent in England, this is not the level he'll continue at for long.

He's shaking off a little rustiness after playing as a support striker for a full season at Everton last season, and it won't take long for him to settle back into his preferred, regular role. With unrivaled size, he's unstoppable in his groove—the problem is, he's yet to find that groove in Manchester United colours.

Remember the immovable force that was Fellaini in an Everton shirt? He's a mismatch for anyone, and even paralleled Yaya Toure in terms of physical ability last season.

Give him time, lend him patience: He'll reward you handsomely, and he is the right man for Moyes' midfield.
