Rio out of England squad Rio Ferdinand has been left out of the England squad for Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro. The Reds defender missed his country’s wins over Bulgaria and Wales last month with a hamstring injury suffered on the opening day against West Brom, but returned to the United starting line-up for the victory at Bolton and draws against Stoke and Basel. He came on as a substitute in Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Norwich, but England boss Fabio Capello has decided to stick with John Terry and Gary Cahill as his centre-backs. However, Capello has named Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney in his party for the game, from which England only need a point to qualify for the finals in Poland and Ukraine next summer. Welbeck, who scored the game-clinching second against the Canaries at the weekend to make it five goals in seven games for the Reds this term, also missed England’s last two matches with a hamstring injury. Jones will be hoping to make his senior international debut after a hugely impressive start to his United career, while Young was called up despite missing the weekend game with a "little knock" Nemanja Vidic will join the Serbia squad on Thursday for their Euro 2012 qualifers against Italy and Slovenia, though the injured Reds skipper will definitely miss the former of those*games. Fabio has earned his first call-up for Brazil's friendlies in Costa Rica and Mexico, where he could face team-mate Javier Hernandez. Two other Reds who could potentially square off are Nani and Anders Lindegaard, though the latter is expected to be on the bench for Denmark's qualifer against Portugal. Jonny Evans returns from suspension for Northern Ireland's two qualifers, while Patrice Evra and Darren Fletcher are also in*competitive action for France and Scotland respectively. Goalkeepers David De Gea and Ben Amos*have been called up*at Under-21 level, and Antonio Valencia has been named in Ecuador's squad for the friendly against USA. Finally, Mame Biram Diouf is in Senegal's squad for their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius. |

International Reds update Several United stars have been forced to withdraw from international duty through injury. Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington confirmed Jonny Evans' unavailability for the matches with Estonia and Italy due to an ankle problem on Wednesday while Darren Fletcher and Anders Lindegaard are also absentees for their respective countries. Fletcher will miss Scotland's clash with Liechtenstein in Vaduz*on Saturday after suffering a bout of tonsilitis but Craig Levein hopes to have his skipper fit for the tough examination against world champions Spain on Tuesday. Lindegaard,*meanwhile, picked up an injury during the 2-0 win against Norwich - his Barclays Premier League debut. "I*got a stamp on my ankle at the start of the match on Saturday and should have come off," Lindegaard*told the Daily Star. "I chose to carry on and paid the price. Although I have to sit on my couch with my leg up now, it was incredibly important for me to play. The medical staff at United believe that the earliest I could train again is next week." Meanwhile, the Serbian media are reporting that Reds skipper Nemanja Vidic is confident he will be ready to face Slovenia on Tuesday in Maribor. The commanding centre-back has been out since the win at West Brom but could play himself into contention for a United return against Liverpool at the weekend. Goalkeepers Ben Amos and David De Gea are on Under-21 duty for England and Spain respectively on Thursday. Quote:

International round-up United's representatives in Euro 2012 action were certainly heavily involved as England clinched a place at the finals with a 2-2 draw in Montenegro. Ashley Young opened the scoring but the headlines will be dominated by Wayne Rooney's second-half sending off. Phil Jones made his debut and looked like he'd been playing right-back for his country all his life. Inside two minutes he burst past a couple of defenders to force a nervous palm over from Mladen Bozovic. Rooney fed Theo Walcott to centre for Young to head in from close range and the United duo set up Darren Bent for the second, with Young crossing unselfishly from the left for a simple tap-in by his former Aston Villa team-mate. Jones' enterprising play marked him out as a target for some rough treatment but he survived a penalty scare when tackling Stevan Jovetic inside the box. Young went off on the hour mark and appeared to put an ice-pack on his knee and, after Rooney just failed to connect with a deflected cross from Jones, there was more bad news when Rooney kicked out at Miodrag Dzudovic. Referee Wolfgang Stark flashed a red card and the United No10 will be suspended for a minimum of one game during the finals next year. At least it allowed Danny Welbeck the chance to come on for Walcott but the striker was caught by a cynical elbow late on after making one stupendous run*through the home defence. It was a real test for Fabio Capello's side in the second half and no real surprise when Andrija Delibasic headed an injury-time equaliser. Meanwhile, United are sweating over the fitness of Patrice Evra after he was forced off due to injury at half-time in the 3-0 win against Albania, with Anthony Reveillere taking his place. Portugal*outscored Iceland*5-3 with Nani scoring the first two goals. The in-form winger glanced in a well-directed, crouching header*from an*Eliseu cross*and then punished a dreadful mistake by Solvi Jonsson to tap home and double the advantage. Fabio is to make his Brazil debut in the international against Costa Rica in the early hours of Saturday morning after being named at right-back in the provisional starting line-up. |

Americas duo in action Javier Hernandez earned a penalty for Mexico but his side still slipped to a home defeat*by ten-man Brazil in Torreon on Tuesday night. Chicharito was brought down by Dani Alves just before half-time in the friendly with the Barcelona defender receiving a second yellow card for the challenge. However, Andres Guardado's spot-kick was saved by Jefferson and the Brazilians went on to record*a hard-fought victory with Ronaldinho scoring his first international goal since 2007. United full-back Fabio, who went off injured at the weekend in the match against Costa Rica, did not have any game-time for Mano Menezes' side. Antonio Valencia was a key part of the Ecuador team that triumphed 1-0 against USA in New Jersey. Jurgen Klinsmann's charges were beaten by Jaime Ayovi's header, which flew past former Reds goalkeeper*Tim Howard. |
