And now, belom masanya kita membicarakan hal tsb, satu berita kembali menyeruak dari dapur management Manchester United, David Gill sang CEO mengumumkan pengunduran dirinya per akhir Juni tahun ini, setelah 16 tahun mengabdikan dirinya di Old Trafford. Begitu mendadakkah, who knows, sampe2 temen gw yg anak BR sempet nanyain, ada apa gerangan, karena menurut dia ada yg aneh, something wrong at this time. Bagaimana menurut teman-teman ... |

![]() Ed Woodward, Manchester United's Executive Vice Chairman, is to assume the responsibilities that David Gill will relinquish on 30 June.
From 1 July, Ed will have overall responsibility for the Club including, in conjunction with Sir Alex Ferguson, facilitating transfer activity. In a revised management structure from 1 July, Ed has appointed Richard Arnold, the Club's current Commercial Director, as its new Group Managing Director, overseeing all commercial and operational aspects of the Club. Michael Bolingbroke, COO, will report into Richard and consolidate the Club's operations under him. His new position will see him take responsibility for the Club's local, national and global CSR projects. Ed joined the Club in 2005. He initially focused on developing the overall growth strategy of the Club and in 2007 he assumed direct responsibility for the commercial and media operations. Hiring Richard, together they developed and implemented a new commercial strategy, including the execution of an innovative sponsorship approach. Ed is a director of Manchester United Football Club, Manchester United plc, Manchester United Merchandising Ltd and MUTV. He also sits on the Marketing Committee of the European Club Association. His job title will remain Executive Vice Chairman. Richard joined United in 2007 and is currently responsible for the management and growth of the Club's sponsorship, retail, merchandising, apparel and product licensing, and its new media and mobile business. He was nominated for SportBusiness International's Sports innovator of the year list in 2011. He is a director of Manchester United Football Club, Manchester United plc, Manchester United Merchandising Limited, MUTV and the MU Foundation. Michael joined the Club as its first ever Chief Operating Officer in 2007 and is responsible for finance, ticketing, hospitality, matchday and non-matchday operations, club secretarial functions, property management and corporate services. He is a board member of Manchester United Football Club, MUTV and a Trustee of the Club's pension fund. Quote:

"I'd like to thank David for his help and guidance over recent years, which has helped to develop and hone my experience at the highest level of club football. "I am delighted that Richard has accepted the offer of becoming Group Managing Director. His work as Commercial Director has redefined the way the industry looks at sponsorship and partner servicing and I know he will continue to bring the same enthusiasm and skills to his new role. "Michael has done great work at the Club in the last six years and has transformed the customer service ethos and operations at Old Trafford. In addition, he has been responsible for managing the work to upgrade our state-of-the-art training facilities at Carrington to an exceptionally high standard. "Richard, Michael and I have worked closely together for more than five years now and I'm delighted this core group will continue to help shape the future of the Club for years to come." Quote:

Manchester United owner's move to promote Ed Woodward finalises the 'Glazerfication' of Old Trafford ![]() In charge: Malcolm Glazer, the United owner, has moved Ed Woodward into one of the highest positions of authority at the club Photo: GETTY IMAGES Edward Woodward succeeding Manchester United chief executive David Gill completes the Glazerfication of Old Trafford eight years after the Americans’ takeover. Malcolm Glazer’s six children all sit on the United board but Woodward, recruited from JP Morgan after he engineered the £500 million of debt that funded their takeover is, in business terms at least, a seventh. The top job at Old Trafford represents his inheritance. Gill, who will step down as CEO in July, has been a crucial figure in steering the on-field success of the Glazer years, working closely with Sir Alex Ferguson to identify, sign and retain playing talent. He also gave the club credibility in political circles, providing clout in European circles in keeping with United’s status. But his retention as chief executive always smacked of expediency on the Glazer’s part. Gill, it must be remembered, opposed the Glazer’s initial offer for the club only to change his tune when their takeover became inevitable. Woodward, by contrast, is a Glazer prodigy, delivering on the American’s vision of exploiting United’s commercial potential to the maximum. This strategy was central to the success of the leveraged buy-out that so enraged United’s fans and drew Gill’s opposition. Eight years on the strategy can be declared a resounding success. In 2005, when Woodward joined the club, United’s commercial revenue was £48.7 million. Last year it stood at £117.6 mililon. The income, coupled with bold refinancing including the bond issue of 2010, has helped the Glazer’s finance the debt and retain control. The supporters may hate it, but it has worked. Woodward’s reward is to assume full control of an operation that he was already increasingly driving from his role as executive vice-chairman. He has been a more visible figure in recent seasons, available to the media, and last year began attending Premier League shareholder meetings alongside Gill. That can now be seen as part of the handover process. Woodward’s major challenge now is to replicate Gill’s role on the football side of the business that underpins every commercial dollar United earn. He will enjoy several advantages, not least the continued presence of Ferguson and one of the most lavish transfer budgets in the game. But Ferguson will need to see evidence that Woodward is up to the job of supporting him, and United’s rivals will hope Gill’s departure echoes that of David Dein from Arsenal. Many believe Arsenal’s troubles began the moment Arsene Wenger's board confidante left. Gill is staying on the board for now, a move interpreted by many as a sop to Ferguson, who has made it clear he did not want his ally to move on, and he may yet play a part in recruiting Ferguson’s successor. Gill will also continue as an FA vice chairman and continue his campaign to win a seat on the Uefa executive committee. He is an obvious and highly credible candidate to succeed David Bernstein as FA chairman, but soundings on Wednesday suggest that he is not actively seeking the role despite his suitability. The Premier League will also appoint a new chairman this summer, but Gill is on the nominations committee for that job and there is no indication that he is about to step aside so he can be selected.
