'Man United is his club… we want to construct the best team in the WORLD': Erik ten Hag urges Marcus Rashford to stay at Old Trafford and sign a new contract amid PSG interest

* Erik ten Hag has urged Marcus Rashford to sign a new deal with Man United
* The England forward has drawn interest from French giants Paris-Saint Germain
* Rashford has been in a rich vein of scoring form since the World Cup last month

Erik ten Hag has told Marcus Rashford that he wants to build his team around the forward to make Manchester United the best in the world.

The 25-year-old forward has scored nine goals in as many games since returning from the World Cup, but there is uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford.

Rashford has entered the final 18 months of his £200,000-a-week contract after United triggered a one-year extension clause, and the club want to agree terms over a new deal amid strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Ten Hag has helped to revive Rashford’s career since taking over in the summer, and he reminded the homegrown player that the way United play has also brought the best out of him.

Asked about Rashford’s contract situation on Tuesday, Ten Hag said: ‘I think he understands Man United is his club, that’s first. But also, in this environment, in this team, I think he is playing his best football.

‘Then, I would say this is the best place to be because we want to construct the best team, first in England, then in Europe, then in the world.

‘He is improving and that is about him because he is giving 100 per cent energy. I think also in this team he can bring his qualities. This team is constructed so that his qualities come to the fore and I think he knows that. But definitely he is important for us and if we want to get the success we want, we need him.’

Marcus Rashford has been urged to stay at Manchester United despite interest across Europe. United boss Erik ten Hag told Rashford that he wants to build the Red Devils squad around him. Ten Hag has helped Rashford return to form at United since arriving at the club last summer. PSG are one of the sides that are interested in signing Rashford, should he leave United. The England international has scored five goals in his last five matches for the Red Devils

Rashford’s progress is in stark contrast to Anthony Martial, who has struggled with a succession of injuries under Ten Hag. The Frenchman has made only six Premier League starts this season, and has failed to complete 90 minutes in any competition.

Martial will miss Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Nottingham Forest due to a leg injury, and Ten Hag said: ‘I agree, he has to be more available. He is really important for us because we play our best football when he is available. He has to be aware of that.’

Ten Hag wants to take a step closer to winning a cup in his first season and end United’s six-year wait for a trophy, the club’s worst barren run in 40 years.

‘It is too long that this club didn’t win a trophy,’ said the United boss. ‘We are aware of that fact and we have to do it again. It belongs to this club to win trophies so we have to get back on track.

‘Once you are winning trophies, that gives you confidence that you know how you do it.

‘Winning games is one thing, winning trophies is another. It’s a thin line. In these decisive moments, you know what to do.

semoga Rashford segera memperpanjang kontraknya di United. jika mempertahankan performanya seperti saat ini saya yakin Rashford akan memecahkan rekor golnya Rooney

'He's UNSTOPPABLE': Erik ten Hag heaps praise on Marcus Rashford after his brilliant opener at Nottingham Forest made it 10 goals in 10 games and helped move Dutchman a step closer to his first Manchester United trophy

* Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the first leg of their semi-final
* Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes netted for the Red Devils
* Rashford's superb form continues as United edge closer to the Carabao Cup final

Erik ten Hag hailed ‘unstoppable’ Marcus Rashford after the England forward’s stunning solo goal put Manchester United within touching distance of Wembley.

United are all but through to the final of the Carabao Cup as Rashford and Wout Weghorst scored in the first half, before Bruno Fernandes struck the third late on to make next week’s return leg a virtual formality.

Rashford burst Nottingham Forest’s bubble in the sixth minute, charging from inside his own half, beating Remo Freuler and Joe Worrall and shooting past Wayne Hennessey – marking his 10th goal in his last 10 matches.

A lot of players are playing really well but I am happy with Marcus,’ said Ten Hag. ‘In terms of his performance and development, from the start of the season he is growing.

‘In possession we have a plan, but then we have some players like Marcus who can do some crazy stuff that nobody expects.

‘From a result perspective we bounced back from losing at Arsenal and the performance over 90 minutes was OK. The second goal before half-time was important as it calmed the team down and the second half was much better.’

Erik ten Hag lauded Marcus Rashford after Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-0. The in-form forward kept up his superb form with a sixth minute goal to fire Man United ahead. The Dutchman branded Rashford - who has now netted 10 goals in 10 games - as 'unstoppable'

Despite the convincing win, however, Ten Hag was keen to highlight his side’s lucky escape in the opening period.

United were leading 1-0 when they gave the ball away high up the pitch, allowing Forest to break quickly. Sam Surridge found the net only for the goal to be ruled out following a VAR check, for an extremely tight offside.

‘One moment could have changed the game,’ said Ten Hag. ‘In the first 20 minutes we played really well, scored a great goal and created some good chances.

‘But then we allowed them almost to come back in the game and that can’t happen. I would say it was a learning moment. We dictated it totally then in one moment it can change. We need to avoid that.’

Forest boss Steve Cooper was left furious at his team’s defending as he acknowledged they have little chance of overturning the result in next week’s second leg at Old Trafford.

His evening was also soured by an injury to Morgan Gibbs-White, who sustained a knock to the ankle which will be assessed in the coming days.

Cooper said: ‘Rashford is one of the form players in the country so to allow him to do what he did was disappointing.

'We had a marginal offside in the first half that meant our goal was disallowed but maybe we shouldn’t have been offside in that situation. We had the time and space to get it right.

‘It was our own doing. United were good tonight but we had to do better with the goals.’

How ice-cold Marcus Rashford is keeping his cool: Manchester United striker's hot streak is thanks to a -140C cryosauna treatment

* Marcus Rashford has been on great form, scoring 10 goals in his last 10 games
* The striker has been using a a cryosauna to help him recover after matches

If Marcus Rashford is scoring like a man with ice in his veins for Manchester United at the moment, we really shouldn't be too surprised.

Rashford's latest cool finish for United in the Carabao Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest made it 10 goals in 10 games since he returned from the World Cup last month.

No wonder manager Erik ten Hag says his player is 'unstoppable' right now.

Marcus Rashford has been using a cryosauna to help aid his recovery after matches. The Manchester United forward has been on the best form of his career this season

Now, one of the secrets to his success has been revealed on Mail Plus.

Before Wednesday's first leg at the City Ground, Rashford revealed one of his tricks by sharing a picture of himself in a cryosauna alongside the one-word caption 'recovery'.

But what does the treatment involve – and how has it helped Rashford?

'It looks like he's now enjoying that responsibility': Roy Keane says the 'penny has dropped' for Marcus Rashford and he's now got the 'personality' to be the 'main man' at Manchester United after another fine goal in 3-0 win at Forest

* Man United beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg
* Marcus Rashford has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 appearances for the club
* He needed just six minutes to get on the scoresheet with a stunning solo effort

Roy Keane claimed that Marcus Rashford has turned a corner in his Manchester United career and is now able to step up to the plate for his side.

The former United midfielder claimed that the penny has now dropped for the 25-year-old at Old Trafford, as his blistering forms continues with a stunning strike against Nottingham Forest in Tuesday's 3-0 victory.

The Red Devils took a giant step towards the Carabao Cup final with their comfortable victory at the City Ground, with Erik ten Hag labelling Rashford as 'unstoppable' for his role in the match.

Keane suggested that the England star's recent success is perhaps down to his age, with the forward now approaching his prime.

'The last few years he's played a lot of games for United, he's played in big games for England. Sometimes the penny drops for a player, in terms of his decision making. And they've needed him. This is the question I've had for Marcus over the years, "has he got that personality to step up to the plate?".

'United have had some great strikers over the years. (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Ruud) van Nistelrooy, Andy Cole, Mark Hughes... the list goes on! I think United need someone like that.

'I'm hoping Marcus is saying "I want that responsibility to be the main man".

'The great players turn up week in, week out - and it looks like Marcus is enjoying that responsibility.'

In recent weeks, the 25-year-old has seemingly assumed the role of one of the club's leaders, having repeatedly taken on the burden on the pitch and supplied goals to get his side over the line.

Marcus Rashford scored a fantastic solo effort to open the scoring against Nottingham Forest. Rashford has no scored 18 and assisted six in 29 appearances in 2022-23. Roy Keane believes that the 'penny' has dropped for Rashford at the club in recent weeks. The England star has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 appearances in all competitions

He has scored in eight different matches this season in the Premier League, and in five of those his goals decided the outcome.

He has had his issues with injury in the past as well, missing 12 games last season due to three different problems, and was absent for a further 16 in 2019-20.

But Keane suggested that Rashford was now in much better physical condition, which has led to a reduction in 'niggles', and greater focus on his playing career has help him become one of his nation's best attackers.

'We were down pitch-side and when you see the players, you look at Marcus coming out and he looks lean,' Keane continued. 'You wouldn't want to be up against him. If you're a full-back and he's running at you, all the best!

'Sometimes when a player leaves the club, that responsibility comes onto a player. He's 25, he's not a child anymore. He's ready for that. He doesn't seem to have any more niggles anymore. Last year, he missed one or two games with niggly injuries.

'He seems to have cleared all that up. I think he's in a good place mentally, which is huge. He reckons he took too much on away from football.

'Being a top footballer is hard enough, sometimes you have to put all of that stuff on the backburner and focus on being a brilliant footballer for Manchester United.'

RASHFORD NAMED PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for January 2023.

Taking to the field four times in the league across the month, United picked up seven points from a possible 12, including a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Rashford scored the all-important winner in that derby, as well as netting in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth and 3-2 defeat at Arsenal. Marcus also played in our 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

His tally for this campaign now currently stands at 18 strikes in 31 appearances across all competitions, with nine of those goals coming in our league campaign.

Following a stunning pass from Luke Shaw to pick out Bruno Fernandes, our no.10 was on hand to notch his first goal of 2023 against Bournemouth, tapping home into an empty net after Fernandes had cleverly laid the ball on a plate for him.

His match-winner against City soon followed, as Alejandro Garnacho's superb work in the build-up found Marcus unmarked, to prod him in front of a delirious Old Trafford crowd in M16.

In our final league fixture of the month, Rashford struck a beautiful long-range drive past Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale to hand Erik ten Hag's men the lead, only for the Gunners to snatch a late winner through Eddie Nketiah in the capital.

RASHFORD RETURNS TO LIGHT TRAINING

Marcus Rashford has started his recovery at Carrington after sustaining an injury in our last fixture, the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham.

The forward was hurt during the 3-1 triumph, which sealed a place in the last four of the competition, before a pause in domestic football to accommodate the international break.

Although called up by England, he was forced to withdraw from the squad due to the problem, and missed the victories over Italy and Ukraine in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Marcus was able to get out on the grass at our training base on Monday but the Reds' leading goalscorer could only take part in a small session, away from the main group.

There was no ball work involved for the 25-year-old, who scored his 27th goal of United's season with a long-range beauty against Real Betis, ensuring he netted in both legs of the Europa League tie with the Spanish side.

Rashford's fitness will be a concern heading into the Premier League clash at Newcastle United on Sunday.

He hit the second goal against the Magpies in the recent Carabao Cup final and the St James' Park encounter will have a big influence on the battle for a top-four place, with Eddie Howe's side currently three points adrift of the Reds but with superior goal difference.

United boss Erik ten Hag is likely to provide an update on Marcus in his pre-match press conference later this week.
