Road to Wembley begins…. After winning the competition back in May with a thrilling 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace, this clash marks the start of the Reds' FA Cup defence. Following an excellent period on the Premier League front, compounded by Monday's triumph over West Ham at London Stadium, United now hope to secure an eighth consecutive win in all competitions.

Jaap's back... United legend Jaap Stam will return to Old Trafford for the first time since spending three highly-successful years at the club from 1998. The big Dutchman was appointed Reading manager back in June, and he's sure to receive a rapturous reception. Speaking about his return, the Treble-winner said: "I still follow United, I still love the club, but now I need to play against them. It will be different."

Any team news? Jose Mourinho made five changes to his starting XI at West Ham on Monday. With an EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Hull City to come on Tuesday, followed by a Premier League meeting with Liverpool, this could be a chance to rest players. The Reds will definitely be without Eric Bailly, who has joined the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Michael Carrick should be back in contention following a recent illness. For Reading, Stephen Quinn and Deniss Rakels remain sidelined.

How have Reading fared lately? Pretty well! The Royals come into Saturday's game on the back of three straight league wins - the most recent of which was a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory at Bristol City - scoring nine goals in the process. Stam's men sit third in the Championship standings, just six points adrift of the automatic promotion places, and are targeting a return to the top-flight.

Previous meetings... United have won 11 and drawn seven of the 19 previous games between the clubs, with our only defeat coming in this competition back in January 1927. The Reds' last meeting with Reading came during the 2012/2013 season, when Wayne Rooney's early effort was enough to secure three points. The sides have contested 13 games in the FA Cup, including a memorable 3-2 win for the Reds in 2007.

Any former Reds at Reading? Yes - two members of the Royals' side, defenders Paul McShane and Tyler Blackett, started their careers at Old Trafford. The former was a member of the Reds' FA Youth Cup-winning team in 2003, while Blackett made 11 first-team appearances before leaving last summer.

Facts and figures... United are unbeaten in the last 24 FA Cup meetings with second-tier sides (W20 D4), and have lost just one of the last six games at this stage of the competition. Spanish forward Juan Mata has also scored in three consecutive FA Cup games, including the equaliser in last season's final.
