Manchester United to wear lonely hearts on sleeves with Tinder set to become £12m-a-year sponsor

* Manchester United have held talks with Tinder over a shirt-sleeve sponsorship
* Nine Premier League clubs have already signed sleeve deals
* Tinder already have a deal with Napoli and their striker Arkadiusz Milik

Manchester United are understood to have had sponsorship discussions with online dating service Tinder.

The Silicon Valley company are said to be interested in becoming United's sleeve sponsor - a new commercial opportunity for Premier League clubs from the upcoming season.

Nine clubs, including United's big six rivals Chelsea and Manchester City, have signed sleeve deals but none for any amount near the £12million a year that Tinder are said to be offering.

Manchester United could have Tinder as their shirt-sleeve sponsor for the upcoming season. Tinder are willing to pay £12million-a-year to have their logo on United's left sleeve

The advertising space on the left sleeve - with the Premier League logo on the right - is being valued by the industry at 20 per cent of the main shirt sponsor. So Tinder paying £12m fits in with the £50m a year United are paid by Chevrolet.

The claimed Tinder talks with United come as the dating app, which has 50m users making 1 billion swipes per day, is looking for a more mainstream image and a global following.

The partnership could open up new ways to connect with fans. Tinder already have a deal with Italian club Napoli, which includes special interaction with Poland striker Arkadiusz Milik, who was given a dating profile on the app.

A United spokesman declined to comment.

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Chris Smalling pose in bandanas as Manchester United stars unveil some new Old Trafford artwork at an event for watch sponsors TAG Heuer

* Manchester United players attended an event for watch sponsors TAG Heuer

* Paul Pogba, Chris Smalling and Jesse Lingard all posed wearing red bandanas

Manchester United produced arguably their most artistic display of attacking football under Jose Mourinho in the 4-0 home win over West Ham on Sunday.

And two days later they followed up one Old Trafford masterpiece with another as United's stars attended the unveiling of a new piece of artwork at the Theatre of Dreams.

United players were out in force as Paul Pogba, Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick, Victor Lindelof and Jesse Lingard all attended the art launch, which was put on by the club's sponsors TAG Heuer.

Pogba, Smalling and Lingard in particular looked to be enjoying themselves as the trio posed in red bandanas in front of the artwork with TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver.

The mural was produced by graffiti artist Alec Monopoly, who is a brand ambassador for TAG Heuer and is known for his depictions of his namesake the Monopoly Man from the board game.

And United players tried their hand at imitating Monopoly, by tagging some United shirts with a can of spray paint.

United are currently top of the table following their dominant display against West Ham, which saw Romelu Lukaku net his first two league goals for the Red Devils with Pogba and substitute Anthony Martial also on the scoresheet.

Lindelof was left out of the matchday squad as Mourinho attempts to keep the defender away from the spotlight after he struggled during pre-season.

Mourinho could take a similar approach with Lindelof to his handling of Henrikh Mkhitaryan last campaign, who he didn't start for nearly three months after substituting him in the Manchester derby.

United's next match is a trip to Wales to face Paul Clement's Swansea in the Premier League on Saturday.

'Our partnership with Saudi Telecom is the longest running of all our commercial partners.

'Having the chance to help shape the football industry in the Kingdom is a great honour and it is something where we believe we can make a big difference.'

Manchester United's revenue rises to £141m in just three months after return to Champions League

* Manchester United revenue for first quarter of financial year rises by 17 per cent
* Between July and September 2017 they made an extra £15.2m of profit
* Period coincides with return to Champions League football this season
* United’s turnover is the biggest in England and is second in Europe to Barcelona

Manchester United have announced an increase in turnover – and wages – in the first quarter of the financial year.

The club brought in £141million, up 17 per cent on the same period last year. However, wages have risen by £7.6m to £69.9m (around 12 per cent) largely as a consequence of the return of Champions League bonuses for players and the summer arrivals of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic.

Should those figures remain the same throughout the year, it would represent an annual salary figure of £279.6m, which would put them well ahead of any other club in England.

United also made an operating profit of £15.2m, while their net debt, related to the leveraged 2005 takeover by the Glazer family, is down from £337.7m to £268.1m.

However, that drop is thanks to a rise in cash in the bank (from £164m to £216m) and the weakened strength of the dollar – the gross debt figure remains the same.

The numbers also show an uplift in staff numbers from 837 to 914 . This is thought to be down in large part to an increase in scouting staff, and reflects a revamping of the club’s network over the last 12 months.

Ed Woodward, executive vice-chairman, hailed a ‘good start to the season’. He added that United’s new black kit was the fastest selling away kit in the club’s history and pointed out that all Premier League matches this season will be sold out to members.

Manchester United's revenue for the first quarter of the financial year has risen by 17 per cent. Between July and September 2017 the Europa League winners made an extra £15.2m of profit. United’s turnover is comfortably the biggest in England and is second in Europe to Barcelona. The increase shows how United have returned to Europe's elite after a fallow few seasons

Woodward also disclosed that United hit 300m interactions across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – 80 per cent more than the next biggest Premier League club. It also emerged that the sale of Adnan Januzaj to Real Sociedad and sell-on fees for Danny Drinkwater and Michael Keane made the club £17.3m.

‘We are just over a quarter of the way through what promises to be another exciting season,’ Woodward said. ‘In the Champions League we have won all four games played to date; we are through to the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup; and are looking forward to the next few months as the number of matches ramps up.’

Last year, United brought in record-breaking revenue of £581.2m. This year, they are expecting between £575m and £585m. The wage bill last term was £263.5m.

United’s turnover is comfortably the biggest in England and is second in Europe only to Barcelona.

MELITTA ANNOUNCED AS NEW COFFEE PARTNER

* European partnership with historical coffee company
* Melitta’s high-quality products to be available throughout the stadium
* Partnership to relaunch Red Café at Old Trafford

Manchester United and respected coffee specialists, Melitta have announced a multi-year partnership which will see the brand become the club’s first Official Coffee Partner.

Melitta, part of the family-owned Melitta Group will be the club’s exclusive coffee partner in Europe, with the partnership covering UK, Ireland and Germany.

As part of the agreement more than 200 fully automatic Melitta coffee machines and makers will be installed within Executive Club boxes and hospitality areas around Old Trafford. With an estimated 6,000 Kilogrammes of coffee consumed each season, the famed stadium will provide the ideal backdrop for Melitta to demonstrate its prowess in providing quality coffee products to a mass audience, without compromising on quality and flavour.

In addition to this, Melitta played a major role in the refurbishment of the club’s Red Café at its famous Old Trafford stadium. The new offering includes a sleek coffee bar, as well as a new dining area within the main restaurant.

The revamped Red Café is currently open to the public and will be officially launched with Manchester United first-team members and club ambassadors and legends later in the season. A select number of lucky fans will be invited to attend this event, with details on how they can win this opportunity to be communicated soon.

Fans will also be pleased to hear that Melitta will not only be equipping Old Trafford but will also provide attractive offers for Manchester United coffee lovers with club-branded machines becoming available to purchase soon, as well as many exciting competitions and giveaways.

Manchester United’s Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold comments: “Like Manchester United, Melitta is steeped in history. Established over 100 years ago, the family-run business was built on its founders' invention of the coffee filter, a traditional way of making coffee that is still used in homes, restaurants and offices all over the world today.

“We are very proud to be partnering with this household name and look forward to working with Melitta to further enhance the experience of the hundreds of thousands of visitors we welcome to Old Trafford each season.”

Volker Stühmeier, Member of the Chief Corporate Management at Melitta, comments: “It is a great honour to work with one of the most successful football teams in the world in such a close and trustworthy way. For over 360 days of the year, our products will be used in one of the most traditional and iconic stadiums in the world.

“We have the ability to not only serve premium quality coffee using our state-of-the-art equipment, we will also be providing a substantial amount of porcelain, accessories, multipurpose and disposable materials. Old Trafford is an extraordinary showcase for Melitta!”

Alexis Sanchez is set to be Manchester United's highest earner on a whopping £450,000 a week... but who else makes the top 10 at Old Trafford?

* Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez
* The Chilean is set to sign a contract worth £450,000 a week at Old Trafford
* Sanchez will jump ahead of No 1 earner Paul Pogba, who takes home £260,000
* Romelu Lukaku, David de Gea and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all near the top of the list

Alexis Sanchez is set to earn a handsome £20million a year after tax should his Manchester United move go through this month - the highest the club has ever paid.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic signed a contract worth £367,640 a week last season, the previous highest salary.

The Chilean, however, will comfortably become United's top earner now given Ibrahimovic's new deal, thrashed out while he was recovering from knee ligament damage, is heavily incentivised.

Alexis Sanchez will become Manchester United's highest earner if he joins with a salary of £450,000 per week

Sanchez's future has dominated this transfer window and Manchester City decided to pull out of the race to sign the Arsenal forward.

Club chiefs were worried about the potential for squad disharmony, with Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain unwilling to offer Sanchez significantly more than the contract Kevin De Bruyne is likely to sign in the coming weeks.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is key to the Sanchez transfer, according to his agent Mino Raiola, and the Armenian is looking for an increase on his £140,000 weekly wage to seal a move to Arsenal.

Jose Mourinho does not feel he's seen an improvement in Mkhitaryan's consistency so would not begrudge him a switch and would therefore have more money to play with.

Paul Pogba is currently the highest earner at Old Trafford on around £260,000 a week

Paul Pogba is currently No 1 at Old Trafford after his wages soared following their qualification for the Champions League.

Pogba, who earned a basic wage of £165,000 in his first campaign back at United, has seen that rise to £200,000 after winning the Europa League.

With additional commercial rights revenue, the central midfielder is now on in the region of £260,000. That is without factoring in a loyalty bonus of just under £3.5m.

Romelu Lukaku comes in below that, while David de Gea's £200,000-a-week contract looks primed to be increased after Mourinho confirmed United will offer their goalkeeper fresh terms.

United have an option to extend De Gea's four-year contract, which runs out next year, by a further 12 months. But Mourinho wants the Spaniard around for far longer.

'Mr Woodward is not on holiday – he barely has holidays – and of course he is going to try to give him a contract that keeps him here for much more than the option that, of course, we are going to execute,' Mourinho said last week.

Juan Mata is one whose future remains uncertain, with it revealed this week that United have yet to trigger an extension on an agreement which earns him in the region of £145,000 per week.

Quote:
UNITED'S TOP 10 EARNERS

1. Alexis Sanchez - £450,000 a week

2. Paul Pogba - £260,000

3. Romelu Lukaku - £220,000

4. David de Gea - £200,000

5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic - £150,000

6. Juan Mata - £145,000

7. Nemanja Matic - £140,000

= Henrikh Mkhitaryan - £140,000

9. Marouane Fellaini - £120,000

10. Chris Smalling - £120,000

David de Gea will earn more than his current £200,000 a week if he signs a new contract

That is a similar figure to midfielder Nemanja Matic, who signed from Chelsea for £40m in the summer after club scouts held reservations over Tiemoue Bakayoko, with Antonio Conte landing the Monaco man instead.

Chris Smalling earns around £120,000 a week, with Marouane Fellaini on the same amount - although the Belgian's representatives are currently at an impasse with United over his pay packet.

Fellaini is out of contract in the summer and Mourinho does not want to lose the midfielder.

Manchester United blame President Trump for half-year loss of £29m

* Donald Trump's US tax cuts forced Manchester United to write off £48.8m
* That knocked the club into the red for the six months to December 31
* It is the Premier League outfit's biggest financial loss in nearly eight years

Manchester United have suffered their biggest financial loss in nearly eight years as a result of Donald Trump's new tax reforms in America.

United were knocked into the red by a non-cash write-off of £48.8million, leading to an overall loss of £29m for the six months to December 31, according to the club's latest financial figures announced on Thursday.

It represents United's worst results since a third-quarter loss of £65.8m in 2010. In the same period last year, they had made a profit of £18.7m.

Manchester United blame President Trump for their biggest financial loss in nearly eight years. Trump's US tax reforms forced the Premier League outfit to write off £48.8m

The club's chief financial officer, Cliff Baty (pictured) insisted that it is a one-off charge that has pushed United into a loss but will have no other impact. It represents United's worst results since a third-quarter loss of £65.8m in 2010

The club blamed it on Trump's tax cuts which have slashed America's corporation tax rate from among the highest in the west to one of the lowest as the US president tries to get the country's economy moving.

It has affected many companies worldwide, even those like United who only pay a fraction of their taxes in the US.

The club's chief financial officer, Cliff Baty, insisted that it is a one-off charge that has pushed United into a loss but will have no other impact.

'It should be beneficial to the club in the long-term,' said Baty.

'It's important to reiterate that it's a non-cash accounting charge only which has no impact on our financial competitiveness or our ability to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.' United's overall revenue for the quarter rose four per cent to £163.9m, although commercial, sponsorship and matchday revenue were all slightly down.

The club spent £69.6m on wages and benefits in the final three months of 2017, up £6m on a year earlier due mainly to player bonuses for reaching the Champions League.

Old Trafford chief Ed Woodward claimed that United's 'solid business model' has enabled them to offer new signing Alexis Sanchez a total of £600,000-a-week, and extend manager Jose Mourinho's contract.

Woodward revealed that the Sanchez deal was already paying off after the Chile star set a new record for shirt sales by a January signing - treble the previous best set by Juan Mata in 2014.

The announcement of Sanchez's move from Arsenal also eclipsed Neymar's transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain on social media.

He said: 'It was the biggest United post on Instagram with two million likes and comments, the most shared United Facebook post ever, and the most retweeted United post ever - #alexis7 was the number one trending topic on Twitter worldwide.

'To put that in context, the announcement generated 75 per cent more interaction than the announcement of the sale of the world's most expensive player last summer when Neymar moved from Barcelona to PSG.'

UNITED EXTEND PARTNERSHIP WITH CHO-A PHARM

Manchester United and South Korean pharmaceuticals company, Cho-A Pharm, have today announced the extension of their successful partnership in South Korea and Vietnam.

Since the partnership began in 2014, it has delivered a range of innovative events, including the Cho-A Saturday Night Soccer Party and a special art exhibition to support the company’s ‘Project A’ CSR programme, which created the chance for United fans to get closer to the Old Trafford experience and raise Cho-A’s industry thought leadership.

These events have been designed both to raise Cho-A’s brand and product awareness and to connect with the tens of millions of Manchester United fans across the two countries.

Manchester United’s Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold, comments: "As a professional sports club, health and well-being is at the forefront of everything we do. It is something we encourage not only among our elite players, but also our staff and fans.

"With 30 years of experience in the pharmaceuticals industry, Cho-A is an established pharmacy chain in South Korea, giving our fans access to its wide range of health supplements through over 1,000 outlets, further promoting the importance of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

"Our partnership with Cho-A has been a success from the very beginning and everyone at the club is delighted to be able to build on this and continue our winning relationship."

Seong-Hwan Cho, President and CEO of Cho-A Pharm Co. Ltd, said: “Throughout our partnership so far, Cho-A has achieved immeasurable promotional value due to various marketing activities by leveraging Manchester United’s strong global brand equity. The extended partnership connects the two brands to be tied strongly, and we look forward to building brand trust and preference continuously.

“Along with vision to globalise the business, we believe this gives another opportunity to promote the brand to over 40 million Manchester United followers in South Korea and Vietnam.”
